Pixel phones have been equipped with an Astrophotography mode for a few years now, which lets users capture stunning photos of the night sky. Typically, to use this feature, you’d first have to enable Night Sight. However, this might soon become easier with an upcoming update.

According to the unofficial Google News channel on Telegram, it looks like you’ll soon be able to manually turn on Astrophotography mode on Pixel phones. This change is expected to be part of the Pixel Camera app’s new version 9.5.118.

To activate this feature, you’ll go into the Night Sight settings and switch on Astrophotography. Some reports online suggest you can easily switch between modes by adjusting a slider from “Auto” to “Astro” in the Night Sight menu. You’ll recognize it by an icon showing a crescent moon with a plus sign, making it much quicker to access.

Once you’ve set it up, starting the Astrophotography mode is as simple as pressing the shutter button, which triggers a five-second countdown. This brief delay gives you time to steady your phone before it starts capturing long-exposure shots, which can take up to four minutes. Be prepared for a little wait while the phone processes the final image, as this might take longer depending on the model of your Pixel and the exposure time.

If you prefer, Android Authority notes that you can adjust the timer from five seconds to either three or ten seconds, or even disable it altogether. However, the four-minute exposure time is fixed and can’t be changed, according to 9To5Google.

Remember, while Astrophotography mode can greatly enhance your night sky photos, it’s not a miracle worker. You still need to have good lighting conditions for the best results.

As for getting this update, it’s not officially available just yet. However, if you’re eager to try it out, you can sideload the Pixel Camera version 9.5.118 APK onto your Pixel phone. This version not only brings the new Astrophotography mode but also adds some extra video tools and exclusive features from the Pixel 8 Pro, like Pro Controls for the rear camera system.

Before you jump in, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The APK file is hefty, around 500MB. According to 9To5Google, simply downloading it might not work as you could encounter a message saying you’re using an “invalid version of Google Camera.” Additionally, you’ll need to have the APKMirror app installed on your phone, which you can get from the Google Play Store.

While some users on Reddit have mentioned that the APK bundle is safe, always be cautious when downloading files from third-party sources. There’s always a risk of malware, so if you’re not comfortable with that, it’s better to wait for Google to officially release the update, though it might take some time. If you’re willing to take the risk, you can find the bundle on the APKMirror website.

The upcoming Pixel 8 series reveals notable price hike and impressive features

Google Pixel 7 was introduced to the Indian market in October last year with a price tag of Rs. 59,999. As we approach October this year, anticipation is building for the launch of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, both of which have been subject to numerous rumors. The latest leaks have shed light on the pricing and specifications of the standard Pixel 8 model. Google is expected to debut the next-generation Tensor G3 SoC with the Pixel 8, featuring an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 50-megapixel dual rear camera setup. Additionally, the Pixel 8 is rumored to come equipped with a 4,485mAh battery and 24W wired charging support.

Renowned tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) recently tweeted details regarding the pricing and key specifications of the Google Pixel 8. According to the leak, the handset is set to launch in early October with a price range between $649 and $699 (approximately Rs. 53,600 and Rs. 57,700). This marks a notable price increase compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 7, which debuted at $599 (around Rs. 49,400) last year. In India, the Pixel 7 was initially priced at Rs. 59,999.

The Pixel 8 is expected to run on Android 14 and showcase a 6.17-inch full-HD+ OLED display with an impressive 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it may house the Tensor G3 SoC, paired with 8GB of RAM. The Tensor G3 SoC is an upgrade from the Tensor G2 SoC seen in the Pixel 7 series, as well as the newly released Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold. Storage options for the Pixel 8 are rumored to include 128GB and 256GB variants. In terms of photography, the device could feature a dual rear camera system, comprising a 50-megapixel primary Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. For selfies, an 11-megapixel front-facing camera is expected. The Pixel 8 might house a 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging capabilities. Furthermore, it could incorporate an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for secure authentication.

The Google Pixel 7 series made its debut in October last year, alongside the highly anticipated Pixel Watch, at the ‘Made by Google’ event. As Google gears up for the next-generation Pixel series, further details regarding these smartphones are anticipated to be announced soon. Until then, it is advisable to approach these leaks with caution and await official confirmation.

There's a possibility that certain Android phones will also include a dashcam capability. Check it out!

According to reports, Google is developing a function that will let phones be used as dashcams. A dashcam, sometimes known as a dashboard camera, is often a small camera mounted on a car’s dashboard or on the windscreen (behind the rearview mirror). During a drive, the dashcam captures everything that is in front of the vehicle, and some high-end dashcams can also catch images of what is in the back using a rear-facing lens. A similar functionality is rumored to be coming to Pixel smartphones as well as certain Android devices, such the Nothing Phone 1.

A report from 9to5Google claims that the Personal Safety app’s ‘dogfood’ apk version was accidentally released by the firm. The article also stated that a feature known as the Dashcam was reportedly included on the app. The function, according to the article, will allow users to utilize their phones as dashcams. During a drive, the function will record videos and, at the user’s discretion, audio, assisting in gathering pertinent footage in the event of an accident or other unforeseen events.

A “Dashcam” shortcut under the “Be prepared” area of the home page, which includes contains services like “Emergency Sharing,” “Safety Check,” and “Car Crash Detection,” is where users may access the tool, according to the article. Alternatively, you may see your most recent videos or start a manual recording here. According to reports, while the function is enabled, phone operations, including Google Maps navigation, won’t be hampered. According to the article, the functionality may be locked on the phone to save battery, and it will still function as normal.

According to the article, users may opt, when configuring the function, to have recordings start automatically when the phone is linked to a certain Bluetooth device installed in the car, such as the music system, and cease when the connection is broken.

According to reports, unless manually saved to the device or cloud, Google has intended the capability to destroy recorded footage from the dashcam after three days. A maximum recording time of 24 hours will be allowed, and the recording will also be compressed, averaging “30 MB per minute,” the article claims.

It is uncertain if the dashcam function will use an ultra-wide lens or a unique cooling method to combat overheating from the always-on recording and/or being set up at a position with direct access to sunlight. All information about this feature should be treated with caution because the corporation has not yet publicly disclosed it or even hinted at it.

The Google Pixel 7a and Google Pixel Fold were recently introduced at the I/O 2023 event, which was held by Google. Both of these devices, along with other Pixel phones and certain Android smartphones, will likely come equipped with the dashcam capability if they are released.

The search engine giant frequently emphasized its interest in AI during Google I/O 2023, which also saw the introduction of its first foldable phone and Pixel tablet. The corporation plans to use AI technology this year to boost its applications, services, and Android operating system. On Orbital, a Gadgets 360 podcast, we go through these and other topics. Wherever you listen to podcasts, you can find Orbital on services like Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music.

Google app update causes battery draining and overheating issues for Pixel users, but Google quickly rolls out a fix while introducing new image search features to combat misinformation.

Google’s recent update to the Google app has reportedly led to severe battery draining and overheating problems for Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series users. Several users took to online forums to express their concerns about the issues, reminiscent of a previous bug that affected haptic feedback on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models. Google promptly addressed the situation, pausing the update and implementing a patch to resolve the bugs.

According to a report from 9to5Google, Google acknowledged that the battery draining and overheating problems resulted from a “backend change” in the Google app, affecting a subset of Android devices. The company swiftly rolled out a fix for the issue, which is a server-side update that does not require manual installation. Users impacted by the problem should observe their Pixel devices returning to normal behavior immediately.

In addition to addressing the app update issue, Google is introducing two new image search features to combat the spread of misinformation facilitated by increasingly realistic AI-generated fakes. The first feature, called “About this image,” provides users with information about when an image was indexed by Google, its original source, and where else it has appeared online. By offering this contextual information, Google aims to help users identify the authenticity and origin of images.

Furthermore, Google announced its commitment to labeling all AI-generated images produced by its tools as such. Collaboration with websites and services like Midjourney and Shutterstock ensures consistent labeling across distributed files. This initiative intends to provide users with clear indicators of AI-generated content in search results, enhancing transparency and combating the potential misuse of AI-generated visuals.

Google’s Pixel lineup is known for its great camera, software experience, and timely updates. The latest addition to this lineup is the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a, which were recently announced by the tech giant. Both devices come with significant upgrades and improvements over their predecessors. Here is a detailed comparison of the features of the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a.

Design and Display

The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a have similar design elements, with both devices featuring a polycarbonate unibody design. However, the Pixel 7 comes with a slightly larger display, measuring 6.2 inches compared to the Pixel 7a’s 6.1-inch screen. The Pixel 7 also has a higher resolution display at 1440 x 3040 pixels compared to the Pixel 7a’s 1080 x 2400 pixels.

Performance
The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a are powered by different processors. The Pixel 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, while the Pixel 7a is powered by the Snapdragon 778G. Both devices come with 6GB of RAM, but the Pixel 7 has a higher base storage option of 128GB compared to the Pixel 7a’s 64GB base storage.

Camera
The camera is one of the key features of the Pixel lineup, and both the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a come with impressive camera setups. The Pixel 7 features a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens. The Pixel 7a, on the other hand, features a 12.2-megapixel primary sensor and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. While the Pixel 7 has a more advanced camera system, the Pixel 7a’s camera setup is still impressive for a mid-range device.

Battery
The Google Pixel 7 comes with a 4000mAh battery, while the Pixel 7a has a slightly smaller 3800mAh battery. Both devices support fast charging, but the Pixel 7 supports 30W fast charging, while the Pixel 7a only supports 20W fast charging.

Software and Updates
As with all Google Pixel devices, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a run on stock Android 12, providing a clean and smooth user experience. Both devices will receive three years of software and security updates, ensuring that they stay up-to-date with the latest features and security patches.

Price and Availability
The Google Pixel 7 starts at ₹45,550 for the base model, while the Pixel 7a is more affordable, starting at ₹43,999. The Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7a are available online and in-store.

Google I/O 2021: Android 14 mainly focuses on ecosystem, introduces new features for Pixel smartphones

At Google I/O 2021, the world was expecting big announcements regarding Android 14, but the company mainly focused on the Android ecosystem. However, there were a few features for Pixel smartphones that will debut in the next iteration of the mobile operating system. According to a statement by Google, these features will be powered by the company’s advances in generative AI technology and will help users transform the look and feel of their device across messages, lock screen, wallpaper, and more.

Magic Compose in Messages
One of the new features for Pixel smartphones is Magic Compose, a new Messages by Google feature that uses generative AI to help users choose a response from the suggested options based on the context of their messages. The options include different tones of messages, such as concise, professional or even “written like Shakespeare himself!” Magic Compose rolls out in beta this summer.

Night Mode support for social media apps
Google will bring support for Night Mode and 10-bit HDR video in social apps like Instagram. Additionally, Google will introduce Ultra HDR in Android 14. The company aims to provide more advanced features to Pixel devices, while other Android users may have to wait for these customisation features.

Lock screen and wallpaper customisation
Google is expanding personalisation options for Android smartphones with the Material You theme. With Android 14 launching later this year, users will be able to customise their lock screen with new shortcuts, clocks, and a new monochrome colour theme. Furthermore, Google will roll out emoji wallpapers first to Pixel devices next month. Users can customise their devices using emoji combinations, patterns, and colours. There is also a Cinematic wallpaper option that uses on-device machine learning networks to transform photos into 3D images. Users can also create a wallpaper with generative AI.

The cost and sale information for the Google Pixel Tablet were mistakenly disclosed

The cost and sale information for the Google Pixel Tablet were mistakenly disclosed. The estimated price of the tablet is 79,800 Yen, or around 48,500 Indian rupees. From June 20th, Google Pixel tablets will be available for purchase.

The Pixel Tablet will ultimately be unveiled on May 10th at Google’s I/O event. The Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Android 14 OS will all be unveiled at the same event. At the same developer conference last year, Google formally unveiled the tablet’s design, leaving essentially little room for speculation. Recently, we’ve learned some important facts about the tablet.

All that is yet to be determined are the pricing specifics, which are crucial given that Google will be up against industry titans like Apple, Samsung, and others.

The price of the Google Pixel Tablet has been unintentionally leaked online on Amazon Japan’s website. The listing has since been removed, but the internet moves quickly, and screenshots can still be seen there.

The listing states that the Pixel Tablet will be offered in Japan in the colours Hazel and Porcelain (White). The quoted price of Yen 79,800 equals around Rs 48,500. This implies that the Pixel Tablet is not an inexpensive product.

Additionally, the Amazon listing page states that the Pixel Tablet will be on sale on June 20, 2023.

Tablet Specifications :

DISPLAY : According to rumours, the Pixel Tablet will sport a 10.9-inch screen with a 1600 x 2560 resolution. We may also anticipate a faster screen refresh rate.

PROCESSOR : The Google Tensor 2 SoC, which powers the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, will power the Pixel tablet.

RAM & STORAGE : The forthcoming Google Tablet will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.

OS : Android 13 OS is anticipated to be preinstalled on the Google Pixel Tablet.

The Pixel Tablet will ship with a speaker port that charges the device, thereby transforming it into a smart display, according to the Japanese Amazon listing. In the next days, we should get more information regarding the tablet.

Google Pixel's brand new smartphone the Google Pixel 7 is taking over by storm yet market speculations report a rumored Google Pixel 8 is in the works. Check out an excluslive on their specs

Google had announced the launch of its very first generation Pixel smartphone, the Pixel and the Pixel XL, on October 4, 2016 during the #MadeByGoogle event.

Since then, Google Pixel smartphones have become extremely popular amongst users for its high quality camera definition and exciting gaming features.

Google Pixel has smashed markets with its brand new smartphone the Google Pixel 7 which is already gaining popularity in the Indian markets. At the same time, market speculations hint that Google Pixel is in the works to launch its exclusive brand new smartphone, the Google Pixel 8.

The two are quite similar but here’s what sets them apart:

Display

Not only does the Pixel 7 have a larger display with a higher refresh rate and improved resolution. But also, a scratch-resistant cover glass with Up to 1,000 nits (HDR) and up to 1,500 nits (peak brightness).

The Pixel 8 on the other hand is speculated to be of 6.6 inches, 1080 x 2400 px, 120 Hz Display with Punch Hole.

Camera

The Pixel 7 has 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second (fps) and it supports 10-bit HDR. On the front is a 10.8MP f/2.2 aperture selfie camera. The Pixel 7’s main camera produces sharp, vibrant, and visually punchy photos with a Super-res 8x zoom / Real Tone / Movie Motion Blur.

Whereas, the Pixel 8 has an improved camera system with advanced features such as better low light performance and improved zoom capabilities. Estimated to have a 50 MP + 8 MP Dual Rear & 10.1 MP Front Camera.

Memory and Performance

The Pixel 7 like most in the 7 series has a Google Tensor G2 Processor and a 12 GB high power RAM to meet all your gaming and multiple window function needs.

The Pixel 8 will most probably have the latest Google Tensor 3, Octa Core Processor for improved performance and power efficiency. With an 8 GB RAM inclusive of an inbuilt 128 GB memory. Clearly, here we can expect the Pixel 8 to takeover all the Pixel Series smartphones for its power and strong core.

Battery life

The Pixel 7 has a 4335 mAh large battery and improved battery life, potentially with support for fast charging and wireless charging.

Pixel 8 is already rumored to have a 4830 mAh Battery with 67W Fast Charging. The Pixel 8 only gets more exciting since the Google Pixel team could add or modify more fun and exclusive features.

5G connectivity

The Pixel 8 is rumored to support 5G, the latest and fastest cellular network technology whereas, some Pixel 7 devices can be updated with regional sim card alterations to adapt to the all-new 5G high speed connectivity.

Pixel 7 or 8?

The Pixel 7 and its 7 series smartphones retail between Rs. 52,000 – 58,000 online on different online shopping platforms. For this price point, the Pixel 7 offers features and specs worth its growing trending hype and is surely set to be the new must have.

However, since the Pixel 8 has just made the news for a possibility of its existence, many prominent experts and tech gurus are expecting it to retail for almost Rs. 50,000 – 55,000. Cheaper than its predecessor, the Pixel 8 can potentially takeover Indian households as the powerful digital experience it could set to offer soon.

Owners of the Google Pixel 7 Pro have complained about the display’s “sticky” and irregular scrolling on social media sites like Reddit and Twitter.

The phone’s touchscreen “constantly sticks on the backstroke of your finger when flicking to scroll. Not to mention the massive increase in keyboard fumbles when typing,” writes one user on Reddit. While navigating through apps, some users report broken display. A Reddit user complained that he had to move his fingers farther to see the next image when scrolling right or left through an Instagram post gallery. He continued that although occasionally the flickering is faster, other times it is slower than anticipated.

Google claims that the Pixel 7 Pro will have a new Macro Focus feature that enables users to take up-close pictures of items.

The brand-new Pixel 7 Pro supports both wireless charging and quick cable charging. According to the manufacturer, the phone’s Extreme Battery Saver mode can extend battery life to up to 72 hours.
