Thanagazi Gangrape Case: Alwar Court convicts five accused of assaulting a minor, the quantum of punishment to be announced shortly

Rajasthan: A special court for SC/ST cases in Alwar convicted the five accused of the notorious gang-rape of the Thanagazi gang-rape case the quantum of punishment is likely to be pronounced shortly.

According to the FIR, five men gang-raped a 19-year-old woman in front of her husband on May 2, 2019. Four men and a juvenile took turns to rape the woman near Duhar Chaugan between Thanagazi and Talvrikash for three hours after beating her husband while another man filmed the assault. The accused demanded Rs 10,000 from the victim for not putting the video of the gang rape on social media. The FIR was registered on the day the video of the ghastly crime went viral on social media.

Police filed the charge sheet against the accused on May 18, 2019, 16 days after the FIR. Chhote Lal (22), Hansraj Gurjar (20), Ashok Kumar Gurjar (20) and Indraj Singh Gurjar (22) were charged under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 327 (Voluntarily causing hurt to extort property, or to constrain to an illegal act), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354B (outraging the modesty of a woman), 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 376D (gang rape), 384 (extortion), 395 (dacoity) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati criticized the Rajasthan government during the Lok Sabha election campaign for the delay in lodging an FIR in the case and not taking action until the purported video of the sexual assault began circulating on social media.

The state government removed the then Superintendent of Police Rajeev Pachar and suspended the Thanagazi SHO Sardar Singh for alleged laxity, and ordered FIR against the SHO under section 166A(C) of the IPC. Circle officer Jagmohan Sharma was transferred out of the district after the charge sheet was filed. Another staff of the police station was sent out of the Jaipur police range.

On 14th September, a 19 year old Dalit girl was allegedly brutalised by four upper-caste men when she had gone to collect fodder. She was reportedly left paralysed with multiple injuries. After battling for her life in a UP hospital, she was then admitted to AIIMS Delhi. Where she succumbed to her injuries and died. However on 30th September, the victim’s body was forcibly cremated by the UP Police. Family claims that they were locked up in the house.

Hathras Gangrape Case: CM Yogi Adityanath promises justice to the victim’s father

Hathras Case: Today, the father of the 19-year-old, gang-rape victim from Hathras, reportedly said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured justice. He also confirmed that the family did not see their daughter.

“I spoke to CM Yogi today. He has assured us that we will get justice. It is true that we didn’t get to see our daughter. We are hopeful that we will get justice,” the father of the victim said.

The father of the deceased adolescent asked for a severe penalty against the alleged men involved in the case. Yogi in response assured justice to the family, promising that “the most stringent action will be taken against the accused and all possible aid will be provided to the family of the deceased.”

Later, the Mahila Congress and Indian Youth Congress activists protested, demanding for Yogi’s resignation.

“To save the criminals involved in the gruesome crime, the Uttar Pradesh government at midnight carried out the last rites of the victim. The government did not even give her family proper time to prepare for the last rites,” IYC and Women Congress activist Srinivas B.V. said

Earlier in the evening, Yogi Adityanath was reported speaking to the family on a virtual conference.

Hathras Gang-Rape case: PM Modi spoke with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath and told him to take strict action against the culprits in the Hathras Gang-Rape Case. The victim, a 19-year-old died in Safgurdunj Hospital on Tuesday after she was shifted from Aligarh Muslim University Medical College. She was brutally gang-raped by 4 people and as her condition was critical, eventually, she succumbed to her injuries. Her last rites were performed by UP police in her village last night.

The whole country is enraged upon this brutal killing of an innocent woman. UP police have arrested all the rapists involved in the heinous crime. The CMO informed that SIT will present a report in seven days. “A three-member SIT has been constituted by Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji to investigate the incident of Hathras in which Chairman Secretary Home Shri Bhagwan Swaroop and Shri Chandraprakash, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Mrs. Poonam, Commander in Chief, PAC, Agra will be the members. SIT will submit its report in 7 days,” the CMO tweeted.

CM Yogi Adityanath tweeted “The guilty of the unfortunate incident with the girl in Hathras will not survive. A special investigation team has been formed to investigate the case. This team will submit its report in the next seven days. In order to ensure speedy justice, the case will be tried in a fast track court.”

On 14th September 2020, a 19 year old Dalit girl in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh was brutally gang-raped. As per media reports, her spinal cord and neck were broken and her tongue was cut. This barbaric crime was carried out by four men, who belonged to the upper class society. However, after battling for her life for two weeks, she succumbed to her injuries. As the news of her demise made it to the headlines, it led to an uproar on social media. Several tweets of celebrities and other people expressed grief and disappointment on social media. Anushka Sharma too, took to her Instagram stories to express her ‘devastation’.

Anushka on Instagram wrote “The horrific story of Hathras gang rape has devasted me..I sincerely hope that strictest punishment is given to the barbaric men who have carried out such a horrific, inhuman act on a young life and caused her family irreparable pain.”

Hathras Gangrape Case: Congress blames UP government says, “Law and order have collapsed”

On Tuesday, the opposition Congress attested that law and order that the Yogi Adityanath government “failed to keep women safe” in the state. The statement came after a 19-year-old victim from Hathras died in a Delhi hospital.

Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress General Secretary said that “Law and order had collapsed in the state and there was no protection to women, even as criminals are roaming freely in Uttar Pradesh.”

Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is accountable for the security women have in the state, she said.

Supriya Shrinate, Congress Spokesperson said, “The Yogi Adityanath government kept sitting for eight days. Why was no action taken against the culprits all these days? It was only when the case was highlighted that the administration woke up.”

Priyanka Gandhi also questioned the silence of women leaders of BJP, “Why were they not stepping forward to ensure justice for the 19-year-old victim?” Priyanka said.

She further demanded monitory punishment for culprits to assure justice to the robbed family.

The 19-year-old was raped by four men and later died a fortnight ago, in Safdarjang Hospital in Delhi, on Tuesday.

Hathras Gangrape Case: Protest by Congress & Bhim Army workers erupt demanding justice for the victim

Protests by Congress & Bhim Army workers have erupted outside the Safdarjung Hospital. The girl who was brutally gang-raped, two-weeks back, succumbed to her injuries today. The protesters are demanding justice for the victim, by a death penalty to the rapists who committed the heinous act.

On September 14, the victim was tortured with her tongue cut and spine broken. She was raped by four men in UP’s Hathras and fought for her life in the intensive care unit (ICU) for days.

Earlier, the members of the Delhi Mahila Congress were detained by the police while staging a protest at Vijay Chowk. The incident has also created rage over social media platforms as users had been demanding justice for the deceased.

The victim gave a statement to the police saying she was raped by four men on 14th September when she had gone to collect fodder for animals.

A 19 year old gang-rape victim from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh was brutally tortured and raped by four men. As per reports, the victim belonged to the Dalit community while the attackers belonged to the so-called ‘upper class’ community. The accused have been booked under the charges of murder. The victim was admitted to the ICU ward of a hospital in Uttar Pradesh. But only yesterday she was shifted to AIIMS Delhi, and lost her life this morning.

Hathras Gangrape Case: 19-year-old victim dies in Delhi hospital

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the death of Hathras gang-rape victim a matter of shame for the country. He also added that it is a shame for the government and demanded the accused to be hanged.

A senior police officer said, “The 19-year-old Dalit girl died at a Delhi hospital this morning, days after being raped by four men in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district.” After she showed no signs of improvement, she was shifted to Delhi from Aligarh.

“The death of Hathras victim is shameful for the entire society, country as well as for all the governments. It’s extremely sad that so many daughters are being sexually assaulted and we have not been able to protect them. The guilty must be hanged at the earliest,” Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.

The girl was gang-raped on September 14 after which she was admitted to Aligarh Muslim University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital. Four men who were accused are Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush, and Ravi — have been arrested for gang rape. The accused also tried to strangle her to death when she resisted their attempt to rape her. The girl was dragged by dupatta around her neck to a field where she was allegedly raped. She was picking up fodder when the suspects attacked her. Her spinal cord was damaged and her tongue, which apparently got caught between her teeth, was cut.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has reminded Yogi Adityanath of his responsibility by saying, “Chief Minister is responsible for the safety of women in the state. The killers should get the severest possible punishment.”

Harpal Singh, head of the Agra division of Azad Samaj Party, said, “We demand proper compensation and that the case should be heard in a fast track court so that the monsters could be sent to the gallows as soon as possible.”

The victim’s brother told the Times of India that they got the information about her death at 6 AM. “We want justice for her. The accused should not be spared. They must be hanged,” A compensation of Rs 4.12 lakh has been given to the kin of the victim and the remaining amount will be given after charges are proved.
