EAM S Jaishankar: World recognises India’s ability to defend its interests

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday that the world recognises India’s ability to defend its interests and that the country is unshaken in the face of border standoffs.

But we stood firm and have been negotiating without making any concessions. Jaishankar had previously stated on Monday that the state of the border will determine the state of the relationship between Beijing and New Delhi. China releases video of clash with Indian Army at Galwan Valley, rare insight into violence

Dramatic footage released by Chinese state media purportedly shows deadly clashes between troops at the Indian border last year — a rare insight into violence at the tense, remote frontier.

China’s defence ministry on Friday named four soldiers killed in the brawl, in the first confirmation of deaths by Beijing from an incident that also claimed the lives of at least 20 Indian soldiers.

Footage later released by state broadcaster CCTV appeared to show Indian troops wading through a river towards Chinese soldiers in the barren and ice-covered Karakoram Mountains, carrying sticks and shields reading “Police”.

A bilateral accord prevents the use of guns by either side, and brutal clashes between the two sides on the ill-defined border often involve sticks, rocks and fist-fights.

“They have now moved another new tent here,” one soldier says in the video, which claims the Indian side broke the consensus and crossed the line to “provoke” Chinese soldiers.

Later footage shows a large melee of troops from both sides and clashes in the dark before Chinese soldiers are seen treating a man on the floor whose head is covered in blood.

The high-altitude border battle in the Galwan valley in June was one of the deadliest clashes between the two sides in recent decades.

Beijing acknowledged that the clash had resulted in casualties but did not confirm if any Chinese soldiers died until this week.

The CCTV voiceover said the Chinese soldiers were “heroically sacrificed”.

Battalion commander Chen Hongjun and three other soldiers have been given posthumous awards, the defence ministry said. State media reported that the youngest soldier to die was 19.

India and China fought a border war in 1962 and have long accused each other of seeking to cross their frontier — which has never been properly agreed — in India’s Ladakh region, just opposite Tibet.

Beijing and New Delhi later sent tens of thousands of extra troops to the border but said last week they had agreed to “disengage” along the border area.

China acknowledges death of 4 soldiers killed in border conflict of Galwan Valley

Following the violent border conflict, eight months ago at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, China has officially confirmed casualties and named four officers and soldiers that it said were killed.

Five soldiers, including an officer who was injured, were honoured by the Chinese leadership, wrote the PLA Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese military, on Friday 19th February.

Qi Fabao, the regimental commander from the PLA Xinjiang Military Command, did not survive the clash.

India had confirmed the death of 20 Indian soldiers not long after the clashes on 15th June. Soldiers were acclaimed for their bravery with their names installed in memorials.

Until now, Beijing had never acknowledged the Chinese casualties. The admission from China comes post India’s Northern Army Commander referring to the figure of 45 Chinese casualties reported by Russian news agency TASS on 10th February 2021.

Qian Feng, director of the research department at the National Strategy Institute at Tsinghua University, said to the Global Times that China “unveiled details of the incident to refute previous disinformation that stated China suffered greater casualties than India or China incited the incident”.

The confrontation between hundreds of soldiers of India and China took place in the Galwan Valley when Chinese soldiers stopped Indian soldiers from marching up to their traditional patrolling point in the area, which had also seen clashes in the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

The Chinese soldiers were armed with medieval-style weapons such as spiked maces. The two sides did not fire upon each other.

Following the Galwan clash, several Indian soldiers were taken as hostages of war by the Chinese. These men were subsequently released.

Colonel Santosh Babu, the Commanding Officer of 16 Bihar, who was killed in action, was commemorated with the Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest war time gallantry award.

India and China are currently in the midst of a military de-escalation on both banks of the Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh, which is located south of Galwan where the battle took place.

After the pitched hand-to-hand battles in Galwan, India and China have accepted the creation of a buffer zone in the area, where there is no man’s land that neither side patrols.

India, China to hold tenth round of talk tomorrow amid disengagement complete in Pangong Tso

The tenth round of Corps Commander-level meeting between India and China will be held on Saturday at around 10 am on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Moldo.

ANI reported that the talks are expected to focus on further disengagement at other friction points from both Northern and Southern banks of Pangong Lake. As the disengagement process in Pangong Tso is over now, so Depsang and Gogra-Hot Spring areas are next on the pullback agenda.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had also said earlier that disengagement in other sectors along the LAC would also be discussed and made it clear that India has not conceded anything during these talks.

India and China had last month agreed to push for an early disengagement of troops and resolved to continue “effective efforts” to stabilise and control the situation in eastern Ladakh at their ninth round of military talks on the border standoff.

“It was said that both sides agreed to follow the important consensus of the leaders of the respective country and maintain the momentum of talks,” MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said at a media briefing while referring to the joint statement issued after the ninth round of military talks.

Earlier today, China for the first time officially acknowledged casualties in Galwan clash. Four Chinese military officers and soldiers were killed in last year’s Galwan Valley clash.

India quietly deployed frontline warship in South China Sea after Galwan Valley clash

In a significant move, the Indian Navy deployed one of its frontline warships in the South China Sea, one of the busiest waterways in the world, after the Galwan valley clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers on June 15 in Eastern Ladakh region, ANI reported.

However, the Chinese side has been objecting to the presence of Indian Navy ships in the region where Beijing has increased its presence in an unprecedented manner through artificial islands as well as military presence.

“Soon after the Galwan clash broke out in which 20 of our soldiers were killed, the Indian Navy deployed one of its frontline warships to the South China Sea where the People’s Liberation Army’s Navy objects to the presence of any other force claiming the majority of the waters as part of its territory,” government sources told ANI.

Since the violent face-off on June 15, both countries have engaged in several rounds of diplomatic and military talks for disengagement and de-escalation of troops from the confrontation areas.

Hence, the People’s Liberation Army of China pulls back their troops from Galwan Valley which is by 1 kilometre from the Galwan valley. Furthermore, this has happened six days after the agreement between the military commanders of both the countries to work on de-escalation on the Indo-China border.

As per the Times of India, the National Security Advisor of India, Ajit Doval convened a telephonic conversation on Sunday. Lest, the conversation concluded with an agreement towards disengagement of troops along the Line of Actual Control. “Both sides should complete the ongoing disengagement process. Along the LAC expeditiously”, said India’s Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.

Therefore, on June 15, India lost 20 of its soldiers which were in a deadly brawl in the Galwan valley. However, with the Chinese troops. Ever since that, India has launched a full blown combat against China. In every aspect possible including banning of the 59 Chinese apps or restricting Chinese investments into road infrastructures.

This disengagement is happening after three days of the Prime Minister’s surprise visit to Ladakh where he addressed the forces. “The age of expansionism is over and expansionist forces have either lost or were forced to turn back” said PM Modi in his address.

The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry addressed the media on Monday. In his statement he said that “China and India have made progress. Coming up with effective measures for front line troops to disengage and de-escalate the border situation at the third commander level. Also, talks between two militaries on June 30”.

NDTV reported that the third level of talks. Between the army commanders of both the countries went on for 12 hours.

Confirmed: Ajay Devgn’s next to be a film on Galwan Valley clash!

Actor-producer Ajay Devgn announces a film on the attack of Chinese troops on the Indian soldiers in the Galwan valley. The film is going to depict the tragic story of 20 soldiers who fought the Chinese soldiers in the valley. There is no word out yet whether Ajay Devgn is going to star in the film or not. The lead actors, cast and crew are yet to be finalised. The film will be co-produced by Ajay Devgn FFilms and Select Media Holdings LLP.

On June 15, 20 soldiers lost their lives in a violent face-off with the Chineses troops in the eastern Ladakh. The face-off happened at the south bank of the river which flows in the east-west direction, before its confluence with Shayok river.

It was the first casualties faced by the Indian Army in a clash with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army since 1975 when an Indian patrol was ambushed by Chinese in Arunachal Pradesh.

Devgn’s next release is ‘Bhuj – The Pride of India’. The film also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Sharad Kelkar. The movie is written and directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya. The film is all set to release on the OTT platform Disney Hotstar Plus.
