From Kashmir to Kanyakumari ; the ripple of patriotism could be felt all across India encompassing the “Azadi ka Jashn”, 76th Independence Day of India. Besides the Bollywood, the southern actors are seen too to come forward to show respect to their motherland through their respective social media handles and felicitating the country people with elated wishes.

From the “Robot man” Rajinikanth to “Chachi 420”, Kamal Haasan; From megastar Chiranjeevi to mighty R. Madhavan, Twitter is weltering with instances of the delightful and proud celebrations of Independence.

Last Sunday, Rajinikanth took an initiative resembling “Har Ghar Tiranga”, urging Indians all across the globe to teach their children to hoist national flags in their corresponding home, workplaces and institutions as a symbol of respect towards the martyrs, freedom fighters, and as a manifestation of the country’s integrity and dignity.

Rajinikanth himself and Chiranjeevi too found hoisting the National Flag in their corresponding home terrace in their tweets.

On the other hand, Kamal Haasan entreats through his message : “Let us take a vow not to forget history. Let us recall with gratitude the services of the brave freedom fighters of yesteryears and the personnel of the three armed forces who stand guard at our borders to enable us to celebrate this day. Courage and sacrifice is meant for everybody. Let us inculcate these.”

The tweet by the actress and politician Khushbu has also emphasized the martyrs and their contribution through it’s columns.

Another actress Aishwarya Rajesh, writes, on Twitter: “This Independence day, let us take a moment to remember with gratitude the sacrifice of so many freedom fighters who so selflessly laid down their lives for the sake of our country’s freedom!! Happy Independence Day!!”

“It’s been my life’s honour to try and capture the spirit of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, a hero of India. On the 75th anniversary of our Independence, I salute all warriors, both sung and unsung, who have fought for our great country to be what it is today.” actor Adivi Sesh mentions.

SJ Suryah, Selvaraghavan and several other celebrities’ felicitating Independence Day wishes to their endeavours with proud slogans have also been recorded.

Lok Sabha tribute Martyrs and Freedom Fighters

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Quit India campaign, the Lok Sabha paid tributes to the martyrs and freedom fighters of the Independence cause on Monday.

Speaker Om Birla announced that on this day 80 years ago, Mahatma Gandhi started the Quit India agitation, which resulted in India gaining independence on August 15, 1947, as soon as the House reconvened for the day following the weekend break.

“This was the turning point in India getting Independence,” he said.

He praised the martyrs and freedom fighters and stated that their sacrifices serve as an example for everyone to serve the country with fervour.

The Quit India movement, which Mahatma Gandhi launched on August 8, 1942, prompted the British to leave.

Gandhi’s call for the end of British rule served as the movement’s catalyst at the All India Congress Committee meeting in Bombay.

Gandhi also made a historic speech at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan, when he famously urged people to “Do or Die.”

The speaker also gave praise to the Indian team for winning gold at the current Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Currently, 18 gold, 15 silver, and 22 bronze medals have been won by India, according to him.

Such an extraordinary list of honours, according to Mr. Birla, should inspire the next generation.

This Independence Day, here’s unwrapping stories of forgotten freedom fighters

Life without freedom is like a body without soul. India’s struggle for independence has seen number of revolutions, massive bloodshed, and countless sacrifices. While growing up we have heard of some big names in our history textbooks, but there are many freedom fighters that got forgotten on the way.

This Independence Day lets shed light on some unsung heroes who fought for independence with valor and even sacrificed their life for their beloved motherland.

Here is a list of the brave and the unsung freedom fighters

Butukeshwar Dutt

A member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, he along with Bhagat Singh exploded bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly in New Delhi in 1929. After this incident both were arrested and sentenced to lifetime imprisonment. In fact he did not even tried to escape the site and believed this would inspire many to fight for freedom. While serving time in jail, he and Singh started a historic hunger strike demanding better conditions for Indian political prisoners. It is unfortunately sad thought although Bhagat Singh still lives in our memories, Dutt remains a faded figure.

Tirupur Kumaran

Born in Chennimalai, Kumaran founded the Desa Bandhu Youth Association to lead numerous protests against the British. He died on 11 January 1932 after sustaining multiple injuries from a police assault. During his last protest he was holding the flag of the Indian nationalist, banned by the British government.

Lakshmi Sahgal

Lakshmi Sahgal journey from a doctor to captain is a remarkable one. Born on 24 October 1914, she studied at the Madras Medical College. When she came to know that subhas Chandra Bose was starting a women’s regiment, she held a meeting with him and set up the Rani of Jhansi regiment.

Khudiram Bose

Bose was one of the youngest revolutionaries in India, being only 18 years and 8 months old at the time of his hanging. He attempted to assassinate a British magistrate, Douglas Kingsford. he was sentenced to death on 11 August , 1908, his last words being ‘ Vande Mataram’.

Tilka Manjhi

Tilka Manjhi was the first adivasi leader who rebelled against British rule in India. He organized the adivasis into groups to fight against exploitation. He attacked a British commissioner and Rajmahal with a gulel. When he was captured he was tied to a horse tail and was dragged till the collectors residence ,he was then hung from a banyan tree. Today his statue stands at the same spot .

Umaji Naik

Umaji raised his own army to fight against British after the fall of the Maratha empire. He attacked the police station at Jejuri, he also used to loot money of the British government and distributed it to the poor and needy. He was arrested and sentenced to death in 1832 he was hanged from a peepal tree and his body was left there for three days to create a felling if terror.

Birsa Munda

A tribal freedom fighter, he challenged the British with the slogan Abua raj setar jana, maharani raj tundu jana which means that let our kingdom be established and the kingdom of the queen be finished.. he established Munda Raj and asked farmers to not pay any rent. He died in jail in 1900.

Kanabalata Barua

This young warrior gave sacrificed her life for the country only at 17 years of age. During the quit India Movement, she led a procession of unarmed villagers in Gohpur sub division, Assam. The protesters decided that they would hoist the national flag at the local police station. The local policemen warned them to stop but the villagers continued to march forward. On this the police open fired when Barua was shot dead.

There are many such warriors who gave up their lives so that their children may never suffer like they did. We must never forget that freedom of India was never free and must keep on working to live up to the expectations that the many freedom fighters had for free India.

Gandhi–

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is known to be the father of the nation and the leader of India’s nonviolent non-cooperative independence movement during the 20th century. This movie covers the entire life of Gandhi from the year 1893 to his death and funeral in 1948. It depicts the story of the non-violent struggle of Gandhi for India’s freedom. It was nominated for a lot many awards and that itself says it all about this movie.

Chittagong–

It is a fresh movie compared to the others mentioned above. It was released in 2012 starring Manoj Bajpayee. It is based on the story of Surya Sen and the historical war drama of British India’s Chittagong Uprising. The story depicts the events of 1930 when Surya Sen and his followers protesting against the death of a revolutionary Jatin Das. This movie also features the Tebagha Uprising of 1945, which marked the end of the British Raj in India.
