Fire and explosion reported on Korean vessel in Strait of Hormuz, South Korea says investigations underway

South Korea’s foreign ministry has reported a fire and explosion aboard a Korean vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, with 24 crew members on board and investigations now underway into the cause and extent of the damage.

According to the available verified reports, officials have not yet determined whether the incident was caused by an external attack or by an internal malfunction. South Korea said it will remain in contact with the countries concerned as it works to establish what happened and assess the condition of the ship.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained a sensitive shipping corridor in recent weeks, with South Korea repeatedly engaging Iran and other relevant parties to secure safe passage for its vessels. Earlier reporting also showed Seoul had been monitoring Korean ships in the region closely because of the wider security situation affecting maritime traffic.

A Reuters report from March said vessels in and around the Strait had already faced attacks during the regional conflict, adding to concerns over navigation safety. South Korean officials have since emphasized continued coordination with foreign counterparts to protect vessels and crew members in the area.

For now, the ministry’s focus is on determining whether the fire and explosion were the result of a hostile act or an on-board technical problem. The presence of 24 crew members has raised the urgency of the inquiry, while Seoul maintains diplomatic and operational contact with relevant countries as the situation develops.

In an explosion that occurred at a firecracker manufacturing factory in Sivakasi City of Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, two people died tragically. The incident occurred on July 25 and due to this, Chief Minister MK Stalin extended his condolences to the bereaved families. In order to provide support, he announced a Rs 3 lakhs ex gratia payment to each family of the deceased.

The authorities swiftly were quick to respond to the incident and investigation into the matter is being conducted by police officials. The cause of the explosion is yet to be discovered as the investigation progresses.

MK Stalin expressed by saying that he was deeply saddened to hear the news of their death in an unexpected fire accident in Thaailpatti village near Sivakasi. His heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.

In another incident, an explosion occurred in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla at a restaurant in Middle Bazar which resulted in one being dead and the nine others being injured. Inspection has been conducted by the National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC) team at the restaurant for collecting evidence and ascertaining the cause of the blast. Interaction was done by the team with the injured individuals in the hospital, seeking important information related to the incident.

The National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC) was established in 1988 and operates under the National Security Guards (NSG) and plays an important role in Post Blast Investigation (PBI) activities, which are vital for understanding and preventing such accidents in the future.

On Thursday, wildfires caused explosions at an air force ammunition dump in central Greece that had been safely evacuated in advance, as strong gusts of wind caused flare-ups around the country.

The fires have raged across parts of Greece during three successive Mediterranean heat waves over two weeks, leaving five people dead, including two firefighting pilots, and triggering a huge evacuation of tourists over the weekend on the island of Rhodes.

Funeral services for the two airmen were to be held in northern Greece later Thursday and on the island of Crete on Friday.

According to reports, a blaze in the region of Volos, in central Greece, reached an ammunition dump outside a major military air base in Nea Anchialos, triggering a series of large explosions that broke windows in a surrounding area.

The air force said the site, north of the airbase, had been evacuated well in advance and no injuries were reported. Several villages in the broader area were ordered evacuated as a precaution.

The wildfire burned on two fronts and forced a section of Greece’s busiest highway to close for several hours, while national rail services passing through the area were delayed.

The World Meteorological Organization, a U.N. body, and a European Union climate change service reported Thursday that temperatures in the month of July set a new global record.

According to the EU agency that analyzes satellite data, the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring ServiceWildfire carbon emissions, for July in Greece were the highest by a huge margin ‘ totaling over 1 metric megatons and doubling the previous record ‘ since records started 20 years ago.

An EU disaster response agency announced that it was sending two more firefighting planes, provided by France, to Greece.

An explosion was heard in the city of Al-Sayeda Zainab in the countryside of Damascus, caused by a motorcycle explosion, wounding two citizens.

It was reported that an explosion was heard in the countryside of Damascus, caused by a motorcycle explosion, near a bus in Al-Rawda roundabout in the city of Sayyida Zainab, which resulted in the injury of two people in addition to material damage in the area.

The concerned authorities intervened and imposed a security cordon to follow up on the causes of the explosion.

The SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket is the World’s biggest rocket. Further, it represents a fully reusable transportation system that has been designed to carry both crew and cargo to the orbit of the Earth, the Moon, and planets beyond. It is capable of carrying up to 150 metric tonnes fully reusable and 250 metric tonnes expendable.

The American spacecraft manufacturer SpaceX on Thursday morning launched its Starship which exploded a few minutes after the launch. This flight was, however, uncrewed as in there were no crew members on board so there were no casualties. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk plans to use this ship for pioneering deep-space missions.

Initially, the plan was to launch the spacecraft on Monday, but a pressure valve in the Super Heavy booster apparently froze. The abled team of professionals worked to rectify numerous unidentified issues to make a second attempt possible on Thursday.

As if the flight test was not exciting enough, Starship experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly before stage separation.

“Teams will continue to review data and work toward our next flight test. With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and today’s test will help us improve Starship’s reliability as SpaceX seeks to make life multi-planetary. An explosion struck an ambulance carrying a medic team of the southern pro-government Yemeni forces in southern Abyan province, killing five medics on board, a security official told Xinhua.

“A remotely detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) struck an ambulance carrying a medical military team of the southern troops while passing through a main road in the Al Mahfid district of Abyan,” the security official said on condition of anonymity, adding the blast also destroyed the ambulance on Saturday.

Homemade bombs were heavily laid by terrorist elements through various roads and areas in an attempt to impede and abort the progress of the pro-government military campaign aimed at tracking down terrorists in Abyan, he noted.

No group has claimed responsibility for bombing the military medical team yet. Yemeni military and government officials often hold the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch responsible for such attacks.

“Israel overnight threw major shots through airstrikes against Hamas targets in Gaza to retaliate against the launching of incendiary balloons being fired from the Palestinian enclave that as a result caused massive destruction in southern Israel”, the country’s military said early Saturday.

It was July 25, when the first attack interspersed, the Israeli army retaliated their spot by conducting airstrikes on prime targets of the Islamist movement Hamas, who reigns the Palestinian Enclave.

“In response to continual launches of incendiary balloons from Gaza into Israel throughout the day, a short while ago IDF fighter jets struck a Hamas military compound and a rocket launching site,” the Israeli army official added in a statement.

“The rocket launching site was located close to civilian surroundings”, the army averred stressing upon the focal point of destruction that Hamas continues to deliver to the Palestinian civilians.

As per the reports, there were no casualties. However, on Friday the incendiary balloons caused rampant four fires Friday in the Eshkol region near Gaza, the Israeli firefighters added.

There have been spasmodic incidents occurring at intermittent intervals. This includes a series of incendiary balloon launches, just after the termination of the May 21 ceasefire of 11 days that emerged as an event of a deadly fight between Israel and Hamas. That incident killed 260 Palestinians along with fighters, reported the Gaza authorities.

“In Israel, 13 people were killed, including a soldier, by projectiles fired from Gaza”, the police and army official averred.

A Hamas ally added in a statement, “Friday’s balloon launches come after the Israeli army carried out retaliatory shelling in Lebanon in response to a volley of rockets fired by Hezbollah”.

On Tuesday, SRF a chemical manufacturing unit reported a chemical explosion that occurred at the Chemicals Complex in Dahej, Gujarat, on Monday evening. This incidental blast, followed by fire allegedly took one person’s life, leaving two injured.

”We have to inform you that an incident took place in the P2 plant at our Dahej Chemical Complex in Gujarat. This resulted in the unfortunate fatality of one person and two others were injured,” the company apprised in an exchange filing.

Though the mishap was followed by a fire, it was timely controlled by the authorities, said Bharuch District Superintendent of Police, Rajendrasinh Chudasama.

The blast happened in a chemical tank wherein the person working close to the tank was killed on the spot while the other two surrounding workers faced burn injuries and were shifted to the hospital with immediate care. Later, another police official reported that the two injured were migrated to a private hospital in Vadodara for further treatment.

The company assured that this incident did not lay any impact or jolted on other plants at the site. Moreover, SRF is in the process to diagnose the primary cause that led to this massive explosion and is trying to bounce back by recovering the damaged equipment through insurance.

Loud explosion with no casualties witnessed at Dubai port

According to the emirates media office on Thursday, with no casualties reported an explosion has been bought under control that was caused by a fire that broke out on a container ship in Dubai’s main port, as per a report released by the Hindustan Times. As a result of the incident, windows and doors were reported to be shaken in the homes of the three residents in the area of the blast, the cause of which remains unknown.

2 drones flew back after dropping 2-kg ‘high grade’ IEDs from 100 m height at IAF base in Jammu

Preliminary investigations have revealed that payloads of more than 2 kg were dropped with explosive devices (IEDs) fitted on the Indian Air Force Station in Jammu on Saturday night.

Two low intensity explosions were reported early Sunday morning in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station. One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area.

Investigation was being conducted at IAF base by a team each from the Bomb Data Centre of the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). An FIR on terrorism charges have been registered by Jammu Police.

Evidence found by sources in the security establishment told that two drones along “high grade” explosive were used in the terrorist attack.

The Indian Express was told by a security establishment officer that the sentry at the base heard two separate whirring sounds. It was further followed by two blasts at an interval of six minutes. No remains of drones were found at the site. It is suspected that they went back after dropping their payload.

Another security establishment officer said that preliminary probe concluded that the payload may have been dropped from a height of at least 100 metres. The IEDs were fitted with impact charge which means that either the detonation happens immediately on impact or a few moments later.

The officer then added that total payload on each drone was more than 2 kg. The explosive maybe RDX as it is high grade. Although conclusion can be drawn only after proper forensic examination.

According to sources, the origin of the drones remains under investigation.

On 8th August, 9:30 am GMT, East Sussex and Newhaven, residents reported hearing an explosion. Reports suggest that the fire broke out in a warehouse on at the seaside port. A cloud of black smoke can be seen forming.

Since then there have been over 10 fire fighting crews deployed trying to stop the fire and control further damage. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Services said that they received more than 30 calls on 999 reposting the fire on Beach Road.

Locals have reported a massive explosion in an port in the UK. A thick cloud of smoke can be seen. The Witness who released the footage of the scene reported seeing a massive explosion. So far no casualties or injuries have been reported.
