Bihar announces free bus travel for students appearing in NEET UG re-examination

The Bihar government on Saturday announced free travel on state-run buses for students appearing in the NEET UG re-examination scheduled to be held on June 21, offering major relief to thousands of candidates and their families across the state.

Officials said all candidates appearing for the re-examination will be allowed to travel free of cost on buses operated by the state transport department on the examination day. Students are expected to show their NEET UG admit cards or related examination documents while travelling.

The move comes amid continuing attention surrounding the NEET UG examination process after controversy and concerns related to irregularities, paper leak allegations and demands for corrective measures in some centres earlier this year.

State government officials said the decision was taken to ensure that students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds do not face transportation difficulties while reaching examination centres.

The free travel facility is expected to benefit candidates travelling from remote districts to major cities and examination hubs within Bihar. Authorities have also directed transport officials to ensure adequate bus availability on major routes ahead of the examination date.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate, commonly known as NEET UG, is the country’s largest medical entrance examination for admission to MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical courses.

The Bihar government has in recent years introduced several student-focused measures related to education, competitive examinations and transport assistance. Officials said the latest initiative is aimed at reducing logistical pressure on students during the high-stakes medical entrance examination process.

Education and transport department authorities are expected to issue detailed operational guidelines regarding the free travel arrangement in the coming days.

Meanwhile, preparations for the June 21 NEET UG re-examination are underway across multiple centres, with authorities focusing on security, transportation and examination management arrangements.

Students and parents welcomed the Bihar government’s announcement, saying the measure would help reduce travel-related expenses and ease stress for candidates appearing in the re-test.
