Tripura polling halted over EVM tampering claims

Tripura’s election panel has countermanded polling at one centre in the ADC election after allegations of EVM tampering, turning a local voting dispute into a serious test of election integrity. The decision is politically sensitive because the TTAADC polls are already under scrutiny over security, transparency, and the use of EVMs without VVPAT in some reports.

EVM under question again! INDIA bloc passes resolution raising doubt over EVM’s design, operation

After the suspension of 141 MPs from different parties from both the Houses of Parliament, a meeting of Opposition Alliance INDIA was held in Delhi today. Many common issues like seat sharing and PM face were discussed in the meeting and other issues were also discussed.

After the INDIA Alliance meeting on Tuesday evening, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said on this issue, “Yes, it (EVM issue) was discussed. A proposal was passed…We will raise the matter before EC…” (As quoted by news agency ANI)

Even before this, the issue of and has been discussed in the INDIA’s meeting. Then a committee was formed under the leadership of Digvijay Singh, and it was said that it would meet the Election Commission. Leaders like Sharad Pawar and Mamata Banerjee had raised questions on EVMs and demanded elections through ballot paper.

The third meeting of INDIA Alliance was held today at Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi in which Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, SP chief Akhilesh. Yadav, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, along with other big leaders, discussed various issues like seat sharing formula, joint election campaign, and a list of media panellists.

It is noteworthy that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had called a meeting of the opposition alliance India on December 6 after the election results of five states, however, it was cancelled due to the unavailability of other leaders.

Bengal Elections 2021: EC suspends sector officer after EVM, VVPAT found at TMC’s leader house

Election Commission has suspended the sector officer who took the EVM and VVPAT and went to sleep at a relative’s house in Uluberia of Howrah district in West Bengal. It was a reserved EVM that has been removed from the election process. EC has assured that severe action will be taken against all involved.

Sector officer of Sector 17 in AC 177 Uluberia Uttar at Howrah district, Tapan Sarkar, went with Reserve EVM and slept at a relative’s house. This is a gross violation of EC’s instructions for which he has been suspended and charges will be framed for major punishment.

Election Commission also directs to suspend Sector Police attached to Sector Officer. The said EVM and VVPAT have been taken out of the stock and shall not be used in the polls.

Several sealed EVMs were found kept outside the house of TMC leader Gautam Ghosh. When the police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) officials arrived on the spot, the Sector Officer said, “By the time we reached the Sector Office, it was closed by the CAPF. Later, my Assistant Sector Officer said that we can keep it with our relatives. I did not know that he is a TMC Leader.”

Elections for 31 assembly constituencies are scheduled to take place today in three districts – eight in Hooghly, seven in Howrah and sixteen in South 24 Parganas.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, April 2, hosted talks Ambassador Nicholas Burns from Harvard Kennedy School. In an interaction with Burns, Gandhi targeted the national media for lack of ability to focus on the videos of BJP candidates running around voting machines in their cars, reported the news agency ANI.

The conclusion of the second phase polling in Assam’s Ratabari Assembly seat, witnessed shocking aftermath as reports of an EVM being transported in a private vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate emerged.

The Election Commission (EC) has reportedly ordered a repoll for a polling station of Assam.

Gandhi continued his tirade about the recent predicament India witnessed on Thursday evening, accusing the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) of absolute financial and media dominance in the country. He further pointed out that apart from Congress, the BSP, SP, NCP are not winning elections.

Meanwhile, Gandhi in his live conversation with Burns listed the provisions required for him to fight the elections.

Earlier in the day, addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala commented about Assam’s EVM incident and reportedly said that BJP should now be called the EVM ‘Chor’ (Thief ) party.

Congress General secretary Priyanka Gandhi Varda attacked the BJP for allegedly trying to manipulate the votes and called for a “serious re-evaluation of the use of electronic voting machines (EVM)” by all national parties, reported Times of India.
