The government has launched a nationwide initiative to provide free annual health check-ups for Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) insured workers aged 40 and above, marking a major preventive healthcare step under the New Labour Codes framework.

The programme is being rolled out across the country from Thursday as part of efforts to strengthen worker welfare and improve access to early health screening services. The initiative has been aligned with the broader labour and social security reforms being implemented by the Centre.

The announcement highlighted that the move is in line with the vision of Narendra Modi and is being driven by Mansukh Mandaviya. Officials said the focus of the programme is preventive healthcare, early diagnosis and timely medical intervention for workers in the organised sector.

Under the initiative, eligible ESIC-insured workers aged above 40 years will be able to avail annual health screenings free of cost at designated healthcare facilities across India. The programme is expected to cover a large section of industrial and service sector employees enrolled under the ESIC scheme.

The government said the initiative forms part of broader labour reforms aimed at improving worker welfare, healthcare access and social protection mechanisms. Preventive healthcare has increasingly become a policy priority amid rising concerns over lifestyle diseases and long-term health risks among working populations.

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation provides medical and social security benefits to millions of workers and their families across India. Officials expect the annual screening programme to strengthen occupational health monitoring and reduce health-related financial burdens on workers.

The rollout comes as the government continues efforts to operationalise key labour reforms under the New Labour Codes, which aim to streamline labour laws and expand worker-focused benefits.
