BGauss RUV350 electric scooter unveiled; Everything you need to know

BGauss has teased its forthcoming electric scooter, announcing it would be called the RUV350. This will be the company’s newest e-scooter, following the C12, which debuted last year. BGauss has yet to release the RUV350’s technical characteristics. The electric scooter will launch on June 25.

The photographs show the majority of the style elements on the electric scooter. Its design is along the lines of a utility-focused offering. The front end has a hexagonal headlight with a DRL, flanked by turn indicators. Other features of the design are a single-piece seat, flat floorboard, saree guard, and oval-shaped taillights. The scooter has alloy wheels that appear to be bigger than those found on other scooters. A completely digital cluster is also visible.

It is also clear that the scooter has dual shocks at the back and a telescopic fork up front. The e-scooter will have drum brakes on both ends. The RUV 350 also looks to use a mid-drive permanent magnet motor.

The C12, another product from BGauss, has a 2.5 kW motor and comes with three different battery options: 3.2 kWh, 2.7 kWh and 2.0 kWh. It’s unclear, though, if the RUV350 will have the same battery and motor choices.

Ola Electric suspends production at Tamil Nadu plant

Ola Electric, the brand new Indian electric two-wheeler company has temporarily shut production at its Krishnagiri plant in Tamil Nadu for almost a week. This Kirshnagiri plant is also called as “Future Factory”.

Ola Electric has stated that the plant has been shut due to annual maintenance and installation of new machines.

However, some sources with the information stated that there has been an inventory pile-up. Which has caused downing tools.

There are around 4000 units of scooters piled up at the plant. And other thousands of units that have been pre-ordered by customers and are ready to be shipped.

According to a source, Ola Electric ceased the production line on 21^st July. And has cut down their daily production to 100 against the daily capacity of 600.

“Like most auto companies that go through annual maintenance at their factories, we did too. At no point can this be considered as shutting down production. Hence, clarifying that (information) is untrue,” an Ola spokesperson

The company did clarify booking numbers, production of the vehicles or even the duration of suspension of their production in the Future Factory.

Earlier in April, Ola Scooters recalled 1441 scooters as a pre-emptive measure after an Ola S1 Pro scooter was set ablaze in Pune due to a defect in manufacturing.

This incident received Union Minister of Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari. As he took on Twitter to address this issue, where he mentioned that these types of incidents will be investigated and urged companies to recall their defective batches.

Electric scooters likely to get costlier by ₹45,000 in upcoming years: CRISIL

According to a CRISIL report, due to a strong increase in the adoption of electric two-wheelers, which is translating into strong sales of e-two-wheeler businesses, electric scooters may become more expensive by ₹45,000 in fiscal 2025, which can be counterbalanced by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for EVs.

Due to improved cost economics, the availability of many models, and the feasibility of home-charging alternatives, the rapid adoption of electric vehicles is anticipated to continue.

The steady increase of e-two wheeler enterprises reflects this mindset. On the basis of growing demand in the country, WardWizard, a producer of e-two wheelers named Joy e-bike, recorded sales of 4,450 units in February 2022, a significant increase of 1,290% over February 2021 when the firm sold 320 units of E-two wheelers.

In the 12-month period (January-December) of 2021, overall sales of electric two-wheelers, comprising high-speed and low-speed models, grew by 132% over the same time in 2020.

However, the Crisil research points out that subsidies, particularly the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (FAME) programme and state subsidies have accelerated EV sales (over 20% year-over-year growth in most sectors) on a low foundation in fiscal 2017.

Over the course of the PLI programme, electric scooters could get up to ₹17,000 in incentives per vehicle. This is about 10% to 12% of the electric scooter’s ex-showroom price. If buyers receive 75% of the advantage, the TCA of electric scooters may be equivalent to that of ICE counterparts.

Hero MotoCop CEO teases upcoming electric scooter

Pawan Munjal, CEO of Hero MotoCorp on Monday, revealed the first look of the company’s upcoming electric scooter, during the live stream of Hero MotoCop’s tenth-anniversary celebration.

Munjal was seen standing next to the new scooter in the images leaked online. Autocar India noted that the company did not share any details of the product.

As reported by Autocar India, the scooter appears to be equipped with a 12-inch wheel at the front and a 10-inch unit at the rear. The white and black scooter featured in the image appears to be sleek with a curved body design and long seat, reported Hindustan Times Auto.

During the event, Munjal said that the electric scooter will be unveiled soon. According to Hindustan Times Auto, Hero MotoCorp signed an agreement with Taiwanese company Gogoro in April 2021 to share battery swap and technology features. The design of the new scooter however does not reflect what Gogoro offers.

Hero’s new electric scooter is expected to compete with other scooters like Ola Electric, Bajaj Chetak electric, Ather 450X and TVS iQube. It is expected to go on sales later this year or early next year.

Ola Electric Scooter to be launched soon; Chairman asks on Twitter for colour options

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group CEO of Ola, shared a tweet of the Ola electric scooter and asked his followers for what colour options would they like on the scooter, hinting for a launch. The prices of the scooter might be announced soon in the upcoming weeks. The Ola Electric Scooter is likely to have a range of 100-150 kms and have features like removable Lithium-ion battery, digital instrument console, cloud connectivity, allow wheels, telescopic suspension up front, etc.

The Ola future factory is being built with an investment of Rs 2400 crore. The manufactures have announced that it would be ready to begin with the first phase of operations at the plant in the upcoming months. The facility would be able to generate employment for more than 2000 people in the beginning, and when fully operational it would go up to 10,000 people. In the construction of the facility, over 10 million man hours had been planned.

When fully operational, the plant would meet Industry 4.0 standards and would have an installed capacity of 10 million scooter per annum. The total capacity would be 2 million units per year in the Phase 1. The plant would have 10 general assembly lines and would be able to roll out a scooter in every two seconds, also 25,000 batteries per day. Apart from being sold in India the “Made-in-India” scooters would be exported to Europe, UK, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, and Asia Pacific.

It promises of competitive pricing on the Ola electric scooter that would take on the Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the like in the segment.

After the announcement of the construction of world’s largest electric two-wheeler factory in Tamil Nadu, the company has planned on to unveiling its Hypercharger Network, which was billed to be the world’s largest, densest EV charging network. The network would cater to Ola’s upcoming two-wheeler models starting with the first product Ola Scooter. The Hypercharger Network would offer a comprehensive set of charging options to the Ola’s EV customers which would include high-speed Ola hyperchargers and home-chargers, which would be offered as standard with an Ola Electric Scooter purchase.
