The investigation into the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma took a significant turn on Friday after the court approved a second autopsy following demands from her family, while her husband Samarth Singh reached a Jabalpur court to surrender nearly 10 days after the incident.

Twisha Sharma was found dead on May 12 under circumstances that triggered allegations of dowry harassment and raised serious questions about the initial police investigation. Her husband Samarth Singh and his mother Giribala Singh are facing allegations linked to dowry harassment in connection with the case.

The case came under public and legal scrutiny after Twisha Sharma’s family alleged lapses in the investigation and approached the High Court seeking a second autopsy. The family claimed crucial evidence had not been properly examined during the first post-mortem process.

According to case details, one of the major controversies involved the belt allegedly used by Twisha Sharma for hanging, which was reportedly not submitted for forensic examination during the autopsy process. Questions were also raised regarding the conduct of the investigation and the alleged influence of Giribala Singh, a retired judge, who has been accused by the victim’s family of not cooperating with investigators.

After hearing pleas from the family, the High Court approved a second autopsy on Friday, overturning an earlier lower court decision that had rejected the request. The development is being viewed as a major breakthrough by the victim’s relatives, who have consistently demanded a more transparent probe.

Meanwhile, Samarth Singh appeared before the Jabalpur court to surrender after remaining untraceable for several days. Under mounting pressure over the handling of the case, Madhya Pradesh Police had earlier increased the reward for information leading to his arrest from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000. Police had also approached the court seeking revocation of his passport to prevent him from leaving the country.

The High Court has additionally issued notice to Giribala Singh in connection with petitions seeking cancellation of her anticipatory bail.

The case has sparked widespread discussion on social media and among legal circles over the handling of sensitive dowry death investigations and alleged procedural lapses during evidence collection.

Police officials said further legal and forensic procedures will continue following the second autopsy order, while investigations into the allegations against the accused remain ongoing.
