Investments : Stalin winds up fruitful Spain visit, arrives tomorrow

Chennai, Feb 6 : Investments to the tune of several crores were signed by various firm with Spain with the Tamil Nadu government for industrial development.

The investments were signed during Chief Minister M.K.Stalin’s week long visit to Spain.

After wrapping his fruitful visit, Mr Stalin will be arriving in Chennai tomorrow.

In a social media post of Tuesday, he said “Wrapped up exhilarating talks with top executives from Spain’s industrial giants – Gestamp, Talgo and Edibon. Convinced them of the boundless opportunities in Tamil Nadu, India’s manufacturing powerhouse.”

“Thrilled to seal the deal with Edibon, securing a massive investment of Rs. 540 crores! Also had a fruitful discussion with Mabtree, a company engaged in R&D in immunotherapies”, he added.

“A fitting finale to the successful visit to Spain”, the Chief Minister said.

“With such fruitful results, I will be departing from Spain tomorrow and longing to see you all after quite a few days, which feel like eternity to me”, Mr Stalin said.

“Similarly, I am grateful to the Tamil community in Spain for the warm welcome and hospitality they have shown me”, he said.

Rapid Action Force deployed as Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji faces money laundering charges

Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed at Omandurar Government Medical College as Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji undergoes medical examination following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case.

The ED took V Senthil Balaji into custody on Monday night after conducting raids at his Karur residence and his office at the state secretariat. The DMK leader was subsequently brought to the hospital for questioning and medical evaluation. The presence of the RAF indicates the tense atmosphere surrounding the situation.

High drama unfolded outside the hospital as supporters of V Senthil Balaji gathered to protest against the ED’s action. In a distressing scene, the minister broke down while being taken into custody, raising concerns about his well-being.

DMK MP and lawyer NR Elango, who visited V Senthil Balaji in the hospital, stated that the minister has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for medical attention. Elango mentioned that doctors are currently evaluating his health condition and noting down any injuries sustained during the alleged assault. Official confirmation of the minister’s arrest is yet to be received from the ED.

Meanwhile, DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin assured that V Senthil Balaji is undergoing treatment and that the party will handle the situation legally. He also expressed confidence in facing the political challenges posed by the BJP-led central government.

The DMK leaders have alleged that V Senthil Balaji complained of chest pain during the ED officials’ custody. They further claimed that the minister appeared unconscious when he was taken to the hospital. The situation remains tense as supporters and party members gather to show solidarity with the minister.

In the wake of the ED’s actions, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Udhyanithi Stalin, Health Minister M Subramaniyan, Public Works and Highways Minister EV Velu, HR and CE Minister Sekar Babu, along with several DMK supporters, arrived at the hospital to meet V Senthil Balaji.

The case against V Senthil Balaji revolves around allegations of money laundering. The ED conducted raids not only at the minister’s residence and office but also at the premises of his brother and a close aide in Karur.

V Senthil Balaji, a key figure in the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, serves as the Minister for Electricity, Prohibition, and Excise. As investigations proceed, the controversy surrounding his arrest and the alleged money laundering case continue to unfold, raising questions about the political landscape and legal implications.

Corruption charges against DMK : BJP delegation meets TN Governor, seeks action

Chennai, Apr 23: A delegation of leaders from BJP today called on Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi seeking an independent forensic audit on the audio file claiming corruption charges within the DMK, allegedly made by Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.

In the audio clip, the Minister had purportedly exposed the ill-gotten money amounting to Rs 30,000 crore through corrupt means by DMK Leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin and son-in- law Sabareesan, BJP State President K.Annamalai said in a statement here.

The BJP’s decision to meet the Governor to seek an independent forensic audit comes in the wake the Minister contending that the audio was not authentic.

Talking to reporters after meeting the Governor at Raj Bhavan tonight, BJP State Vice-President V.P.Duraisamy, who had earlier quit the DMK and joined the BJP, said Mr Ravi has promised to consider their request.

Earlier, Mr Annamalai said “since the Finance Minister is resting on an argument that this audio is fabricated, we challenge him to produce an audio clip with similar content but instead in my voice. We shall submit both audio samples to a court monitored investigation and let the investigating agency ascertain the genuine nature of both audio clips.”

He said “I will submit my voice samples and we expect the State Finance Minister to do the same. He should understand that this was too big a case to be brushed under the carpet with weak statements posted as defence, Mr Annamalai added.

Mr. Annamalai further requested the State Finance Minister to not underestimate the intelligence of the people of Tamil Nadu and not everyone would believe the fairy tales that you float like your partymen.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin hospitalized for “investigation and observation for COVID-19-related symptoms”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi (MK) Stalin had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and today was hospitalized in a private hospital in Chennai.

MK Stalin is the son of the former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and has been the president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party since 28 August 2018.

The DMK chief was admitted for “investigation and observation for COVID-19-related symptoms”. Said reports, two days after the CM had informed of his infection.

Kauvery Hospital in Chennai issued a statement confirming the same.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi wished CM Stalin a speedy recovery after learning of his infection.

“I learnt with utmost concern that you have tested positive for Covid-19. You have been a dynamic public leader with significant public contact making you vulnerable to this contagion. I pray for your sound health and speedy recovery”. Governor Ravi wrote in a letter to MK Stalin.

Former CM O Panneerselvam also wished MK Stalin a speedy recovery tweeting that he prayed to almighty god for the CM’s quick recovery so his work for the people continues.

The counting of votes of the 234-member Legislative Assembly election in Tamil Nadu began at 8 am on Sunday with strict protocol in place.

The DMK victory in this Assembly election will reportedly bring it back to power after a decade. While the AIADMK is in alliance with the BJP, the DMK has tied up with Congress.
