Petrol and diesel prices have increased across India once again, intensifying pressure on household budgets and transportation costs as oil marketing companies revised fuel rates on Friday.

According to the latest revision, petrol prices have risen by up to 97 paise per litre, while diesel prices increased by as much as 99 paise per litre in several cities. The fresh hike has widened the gap between the costliest and cheapest fuel markets in the country, with major variations driven by state taxes, VAT rates and transportation expenses.

Hyderabad has emerged as the costliest city in India for both petrol and diesel after the latest revision. Petrol prices in Hyderabad climbed to Rs 112.81 per litre, while diesel reached Rs 100.94 per litre.

Thiruvananthapuram followed closely, with petrol being sold at Rs 112.64 per litre and diesel crossing Rs 101 per litre, making it one of the few Indian cities where diesel prices have crossed the three-digit mark.

Meanwhile, cities like Kolkata and Patna also recorded petrol prices above Rs 110 per litre, reflecting the impact of local taxation structures.

In contrast, Chandigarh remains the cheapest city in the country for fuel buyers. Petrol there is currently priced at Rs 98.97 per litre, while diesel is available at Rs 86.94 per litre.

Officials said the price difference between cities largely depends on state-level VAT, dealer commissions and freight charges involved in transporting fuel from refineries to retail outlets.

The latest hike is expected to impact transportation, logistics and daily consumer spending, especially as diesel prices directly influence freight and essential commodity movement across India.
