On May 2, fans got their first look of Nagarjuna in the upcoming film ‘Kubera,’ directed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Dhanush. The promo, which aired during the SRH versus RR IPL game on Star Sports, featured Nagarjuna in a cryptic position that piqued spectators’ interest.

In the preview, Nagarjuna is dressed in a smart blue shirt and black trousers, wearing spectacles in the midst of severe rain and surrounded by cash trucks. Towards the conclusion, he is seen placing a 500 rupee note atop heaps of cash.

‘Kubera,’ directed by National Award-winning Sekhar Kammula, is a widely awaited pan-Indian film. Previously, Dhanush’s first look from the film received great reviews.

Ajith Kumar, a Tamil icon, was the first actor from the film industry this year to vote in the Lok Sabha Election 2024.

The first phase of voting began on Friday, April 19, with Tamil Nadu being among the first states to vote.

In a viral video, Ajith is seen casting his vote at the Thiruvanmiyur election station. According to sources, the actor arrived at the voting booth about 6:40 a.m. and stayed until 7 a.m., when it opened.

Ajith, dressed in white, was seen voting and smiling for photos, displaying his tattooed finger. The actor set an excellent example for followers, plainly encouraged them to participate by voting.

On the other hand, Jailer star Thalaiva Rajinikanth was also seen casting his vote in the first phase of the Lok Sabha Elections.

Actor-filmmaker Dhanush and director Aishwarya Rajinikanth have filed for divorce.

According to media sources, the couple recently filed for divorce in a Chennai family court under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 (divorce by mutual consent).

In January 2022, Dhanush and Aishwarya announced their separation.

Jailer, the latest movie by Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, is already receiving rave reviews from viewers who saw the first day-first show (FDFS). Tamil Nadu has 900 theatres showing the movie, which was directed by Nelson Dileepkumar and produced by Kalanidhi Maran under the Sun Pictures brand.

Madras High Court dismisses Dhanush’s case over a 2014 film poster depicting him smoking a cigarette

The Madras high court on Monday quashed criminal proceedings against popular film stars Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth, which were pending before a magistrate court in the city, for allegedly displaying banners of the Tamil film Velaiyilla Pattadhari, which featured a prominent image of Dhanush smoking a cigarette.

Dhanush, Aiswarya, and three others filed petitions, which were granted by Justice N Anand Venkatesh. Dhanush and Aishwarya were initially charged based on a private allegation lodged by one S Cyril Alexander.

The judge stated in his judgement that the only accusation presented in the complaint in this case is that the movie’s promotional banners contained a prominent image of the lead actor smoking a cigarette.

According to the judge, this act cannot be brought under the purview of Section 5 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply, and Distribution) Act (COPTA) because the display was not done by persons engaged in the production, supply, or distribution of cigarettes or other tobacco products.

The person pictured smoking a cigarette had no contract with the entity or person engaged in the manufacturing, supply, or distribution of cigarettes or other tobacco products, nor was he marketing their product, according to the judge.

The judge stated that a penal provision must be carefully construed since the consequences of an action performed under the code will affect the life or personal liberty guaranteed by Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

“Hence, this court cannot be swayed by emotions and popular beliefs and the court has to necessarily construe the provisions strictly and see if the facts of the case make out an offence. If the facts do not constitute an offence, the court cannot try to expand the scope of the provision by considering the adverse impact that a tobacco or tobacco product can have on the society and particularly the younger generation,” the judge added.

The judge stated that the complainant appeared to believe that because the movie’s producers and distributors were involved in constructing banners/posters depicting the lead actor smoking, this would constitute an infraction under Section 5 of the COTPA.

In this scenario, the producers and distributors were in the movie industry and not in the business of selling cigarettes or other tobacco goods. This crucial gap between what is stated in the provision and what is alleged in the complaint makes all the difference.

“In the light of the above discussions, the continuation of the criminal proceedings as against the accused persons will amount to an abuse of process of court, and hence, it requires interference of this court,” the judge added and quashed the proceedings.

The big-budget Tamil action comedy “Captain Miller,” directed by Arun Matheswaran, is the first film in which the National Award-winning actor and the “Rocky” director have worked together.

In the movie, the singer of “Kolaveri Di” will play Captain Miller against a setting of the 1930s and 1940s. The film’s release date is in the summer of this year in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and is pending the announcement of the remaining celebrity cast.

Actor Dhanush recently bought a luxurious house for his parents at Poes Garden, Chennai. The picture of the housewarming party was shared by actor-director and president of the Dhanush Fan Club, Subramaniam Siva. He posted the pictures with the caption, ” My younger brother Dhanush’s house is like a temple. He has given his parents and children a paradise-like home. May you keep rising and achieve all success. Live long bro.”

The picture of the housewarming party went viral on social media and fans started showering their love on the picture. Fans appreciated Dhanush’s gesture of buying a house for his parents. According to reports the house that Dhanush bought in Chennai for his parents cost around 150 crore.

Dhanush has made a Telugu film for the first time, the movie is produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. In the trailer, Dhanush is shown in his role as a lecturer in the trailer. The movie is directed by Venky Atluri, he is known for his work on light-hearted romcoms, he has now made a film with strong meaningful message. Written and directed by Venky Atluri, the film features Samyuktha Menon as the female lead. Production house Sithara Entertainments in collaboration with Fortune Four Cinemas is bank rolling the high-budget film on a lavish scale.

The film is about making quality education accessible to the poor. Actor Dhanush plays Bala Gangadhar Tilak, a junior lecturer at Tripathi Educational Institute in the film.

Director Aanand L Rai says, “Mental illness was not the intention behind the film Atrangi Re”

The filmmaker Aanand L Rai stated, “It is actually only love. When we talk about Rinku… there was a big section of people who were talking about mental illness. It was never that for me. That was not the only thing I was trying to come up with. What I was trying to come up with was that only love can bring you out of a lot of complications…

“We have become very smart and intelligent. We want to analyse everything. These are tough times and we want to give logic to falling in love. It is so unfortunate. The only thing that can defy logic is love.” Director Rai further explained.

‘Atrangi Re’ is based on romantic-musical-drama — written by Rai’s long-time collaborator Himanshu Sharma, featuring Sara Ali Khan and Tamil actor Dhanush. Alongside Akshay Kumar in a special appearance, the film was interpreted as a lopsided and complex love triangle.

‘Atrangi Re’ was streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, on 24th December. It received some critics as some part of the film shows mental health.

The role of Rinku Sooryavanshi was played by Sara Ali Khan, a child born out of an interfaith marriage who lives with the pain of losing her parents at a young age.

Rinku has tried running away from her maternal family home in Bihar, Rinku was forced to marry a Tamil man Vishu (Dhanush) but they plan to part ways once they reach Delhi where she expects to meet her lover called Sajjad (Kumar).

The 50-year-old director explained thatthe sole purpose of the movie was to explore a mad world of “love”.

“Rinku was living a life the way she wanted to. From our perspective, she was going through something. But from her perspective, she was beautifully living her own life with her father around. There was no problem for her but it was a problem for us to see her like this,” he added.

When the director was asked about the negative reviews that the film received for mental health his reply was, “I was …deep down was ready for this.”

The director nonetheless, decided that when he narrates a story about mental illness in future he will “deal with it differently.”

The trailer of Dhanush’s most-awaited film Jagame Thandiram was broadcasted on Tuesday. Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film has Dhanush playing the role of a Tamil outlaw with global ambitions.

Going by the trailer, Dhanush stars as Suruli, who seems to be a vibrant character. He also has a huge taste for violence, mind-games and of course, seems to maintain a great sense of humour. We also get a glimpse of Hollywood actor James Cosmo, who is making his debut in the Indian film industry with the movie. James Cosmo plays the role of a London-based mafia boss, who stands between Suruli and his ambition.

Jagame Thandiram was presumed to hit the screens last May. But, the outbreak of the coronavirus compelled the filmmakers to halt it indefinitely. Its team had always maintained that the film was made for a big-screen experience and they had no plans for a direct OTT release.

However, everyone was taken by surprise when producer S Sashikanth of Y Not Studio decided to give the theatrical window a miss and announced releasing it on Netflix on June 18.

Sashikanth’s decision adversely influenced his relationship with Dhanush as they both are reportedly not on talking terms. So much so, that Dhanush has steered clear of all sorts of promotional activities for the film. Dhanush even joined the social media campaign backed by his fans to exert pressure on Sashikanth to pull out from the direct-to-home release with Netflix.

“I am hoping for the theatrical release of Jagame Thandiram like the theatre owners, exhibitors, distributors, cinema lovers, and most of all my fans. Fingers crossed,” Dhanush had tweeted at the time.

However, Sashikanth remained firm on his conclusion. And in retrospect, it seems like a shrewd call. The producer may have assumed that the risks of releasing Jagame Thandiram in theatres took precedence over the benefits. It is safe to assume that the film may have earned way below its capability at the box office due to the pandemic. And its theatrical run could have been cut short prematurely due to the contentious second wave since April.

Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Atrangi re’ may resume its shooting in October

Bollywood is getting ready to restart shooting since COVID is becoming new normal for everyone now. Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan, and Dhanush starrer ‘Atrangi Re’ is all set to resume its shooting from October.

The Aanand L. Rai directorial will reportedly have a shooting schedule across Madurai, Delhi, and Mumbai. The movie is said to be one of the first few films to be shot in real locations as many movies have canceled it shooting in many places due to ongoing global pandemic.

According to reports in ETimes Anand Rai said, “During this lockdown, I’ve taken out a lot of time to prepare for the upcoming schedules of ‘Atrangi Re’. I’m really excited to start the next schedule, which is planned to happen in Madurai, October onwards, and then with Akshay for a month in Delhi and Mumbai, with all safety precautions in place, of course”.
The new still that has turned up online is supposed to be one from the film’s first schedule that had Sara and Dhanush shooting in Varanasi before the lockdown.

The movie is written by Himanshu Sharma with music by AR Rahman. The movie is set to get released in 2021.

The film features Sara in a double role. The narrative is reportedly set in two different eras with the actress paired with Dhanush and Akshay in each era.
