Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that government has been leaving no stone unturned to ensure the well-being of the veterans.

New Delhi Jan 14 : Reiterating the government’s commitment towards the welfare of ex-servicemen, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that from implementing the One Rank One Pension scheme to providing health care and re-employment, the Government has been leaving no stone unturned to ensure the well-being of the veterans.

Addressing a Veterans’ Rally at Air Force Station, Kanpur, on the occasion of 8th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day, the Defence Minister said, “Our soldiers rise above family, caste & creed and only think about the nation. They effectively carry out their duties as they know for a fact that if the nation is secure, everything is safe. This gives them the moral strength to face every challenge”.

He said that while the Government is making more efforts as the nation is progressing, it is also a collective responsibility of the people to treat the soldiers & their dependents as their own family and ensure that they stand with them always.

Rajnath appealed to the people to further strengthen their will to honour the retired as well as the serving soldiers.

The Raksha Mantri pointed out that the bravery, integrity, professional & humanity of the Indian soldiers is respected and recognised not just by the whole country, but by the entire world.

“The bravery of our soldiers who fought in the First & Second World Wars are remembered with respect across the globe. We, Indians, too not only respect our own soldiers, but also those of other countries.

In the 1971 war, more than 90,000 soldiers of Pakistan surrendered to India. We could have treated them in any way we wanted; but such is our culture and tradition that we adopted a completely humanitarian attitude and sent them back to their country with full respect. Such treatment to enemy soldiers is one of the golden chapters of humanity,” he said.

On the occasion, Singh laid a wreath at the War Memorial and paid homage to the heroes for their supreme sacrifice and dedicated service.

Present on the occasion were Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and other senior officers.

Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is celebrated on 14th January every year to recognise the service rendered by the First Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Field Marshal KM Cariappa, who retired on this day in 1953.

In response to rising concerns over China’s increasing presence in the Indian Ocean region, the Indian Navy has commissioned its latest stealth-guided missile destroyer, INS Imphal, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The formal induction of INS Imphal represents the entry of the third ‘Visakhapatnam’ class destroyer into the Navy. These destroyers, crafted by the Indian Navy’s in-house organisation, the Warship Design Bureau, showcase the nation’s indigenous prowess.

With the unique distinction of being the first warship named after a city in the Northeastern region, a decision endorsed by the President in April 2019, INS Imphal emphasises the strategic importance of the Northeastern region for national security.

Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of the Navy, emphasised the diverse responsibilities of INS Imphal, affirming that it will address not only physical threats arising from the seas but, crucially, act as a deterrent against any malicious intentions seeking to undermine our national unity. Currently, four destroyers of the 15 Alpha and Bravo class are actively engaged in countering piracy and defending against drone attacks on merchant shipping.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledged that India has increased its surveillance of the seas following recent assaults on merchant navy vessels.

Constructed by Mazgaon Dock Limited, INS Imphal has an indigenous content of around 75%, featuring BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles, medium-range surface-to-air missiles, indigenous anti-submarine rocket launchers, and a 76mm super rapid gun mount.

As part of Project 15B (Visakhapatnam class), INS Imphal, measuring 163 metres in length and with a displacement of 7,400 tons, stands as a formidable naval presence. The ship is equipped with advanced weapons, sensors, and surveillance radar, establishing it as one of India’s most potent warships.

Designed to operate under Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) warfare conditions, INS Imphal boasts high automation, stealth features, and survivability. Propelled by Combined Gas and Gas (COGAG) propulsion, the ship can achieve speeds exceeding 30 knots (56 km/hour).

It was delivered to the Indian Navy on October 20, post which INS Imphal successfully completed a rigorous trial program, including the test-firing of the extended-range supersonic BrahMos missile.

Defence Acquisition Council's (DAC) approves of Rs 2.23 lakh crore capital acquisition proposals.

Under the direction of Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) for capital acquisition proposals of Rs 2.23 lakh crore on November 30, 2023. The sanctioned amount of Rs 2.20 lakh crore, or 98% of the total, will be sourced locally, encouraging ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in the Indian defence sector.

Two Anti-tank Munitions (Area Denial Munition, or ADM) Type-2 and Type-3, intended to eliminate tanks, armoured personnel carriers, and hostile personnel, were approved by the DAC for purchase. The Indian Army’s artillery forces will have a state-of-the-art Towed Gun System (TGS) as a pillar after the DAC approved AoN’s request to replace the Indian Field Gun (IFG). Furthermore, AoN was given permission to purchase 155 mm Nubless projectiles under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, which will increase lethality and safety for 155 mm artillery weapons.

To strengthen the fighting edge of T-90 tanks over enemy platforms, the DAC also authorised AoN for the acquisition as well as integration of Automatic Target Tracker (ATT) and Digital Basaltic Computer (DBC) for T-90 Tanks. Another AoN was granted for the purchase of Medium Range Anti-Ship Missiles (MRAShM) under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. These missiles will be used as the main offensive weapon on Indian Naval Ships and will be installed on the surface platforms of the Indian Navy.

Additionally, under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, the DAC awarded AoNs for the purchase of Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) for the Indian Army and Air Force (IAF) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk 1A for the IAF from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). AoNs for the locally upgraded Su-30 MKI aircraft from HAL were also granted by the DAC. By strengthening the IAF and enhancing domestic capabilities, this calculated action lessens reliance on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

The Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 saw a major revision adopted by the DAC with the aim of optimising indigenization. From now on, it will be mandatory for all procurement categories to have a minimum of 50% indigenous content, which can include components, software, and materials made in India. AoN procurement cases up to Rs 300 crore would examine requests for proposals (RFPs) from registered MSMEs and recognized start-ups, as part of the DAC’s initiative to support start-ups and MSMEs in the defence ecosystem. With DPB permission, this ceiling may be lowered on an individual basis for AoN costs up to Rs 500 crore.

Rajnath Singh, India’s defence minister, issued a warning to the “neighbour” nation on Saturday, saying that anyone attempting to hurt the nation will receive a proper response.

In the tribal-dominated Kanker area of Chhattisgarh, he was addressing during a gathering. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become a strong nation and is no longer a weak one, he claimed. The minister continued, “I want to let our neighbour know that if somebody tries to cast an unfavourable eye on us, a proper response would be offered.

Additionally, he claimed that as a result of the Modi government’s successful actions over the past nine years, the influence of Left Wing Extremism has diminished and is now only present in 10 to 12 districts. He asserted that with full cooperation from the state’s Congress administration, the Naxal threat would have been eliminated from Chhattisgarh. Notably, Chhattisgarh must hold elections by the end of the year. Notably, Chhattisgarh must hold elections by the end of the year.

Asserting that forced religious conversions were becoming more common in the state, particularly in Bastar, the defence minister urged the Congress administration to put an end to them. According to the top BJP official, Prime Minister Modi is just as dedicated to the welfare of Dalits, tribal people, and other underprivileged groups as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was. He claimed that Congress disregarded tribals after gaining independence, putting more emphasis on itself and its politics.

On the sidelines of the summit, he will hold bilateral talks with his Uzbek counterpart Lt General Nizamovich.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will fly to Tashkent Uzbekistan tomorrow, 23rd August to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit (SCO) of Defence Ministers.

On the sidelines of the summit, he will hold bilateral talks with his Uzbek counterpart Lt General Nizamovich.

Discussions on counter-terrorism will be the key focus of the meeting.

Defence ministers of Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and host Uzbekistan will be present at the summit.

The full-fledged summit will be held next month on 22nd September.

He has also planned interaction with the Indian community present in Uzbekistan.

Today, Rajnath Singh will be presiding over a high-level meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council. This crucial meeting will have discussions of DAC granting the defence forces emergency acquisition powers to procure crucial systems. This will allow the armed forces to purchase crucial weapon systems through fast-track routes.

This will include procurement of much need equipment like artillery, bulletproof vests and various other systems like swarm drones for the army.

These purchases have stretched the armed forces’ preparedness and readiness as acquisitions like the Israeli Heron reconnaissance drone, HAMMER air-to-ground bombs for Rafale and Sig Saur 716 rifles have been procured.

The armed forces have extensively used this power to strengthen their position in times of conflict and the government has granted them these powers in phases.

Indian Armed Forces have procured foreign and Indian-made weapons using such powers.

A pre-DAC meeting is also on his agenda and the three chiefs of all the branches of the armed forces are set to attend that meeting.

A high-level meeting will be held next week by the ministry of defence to discuss and grant these special powers to the armed.

India is likely to allow the defence forces to have emergency powers to procure some crucial systems via a fast-track route. This is to improve the armed forces’ operational preparedness in times of emergency.

These powers were first granted shortly after the Uri Surgical Strikes in 2016 when tensions with the Pakistanis escalated. They have been also used during the India-China Standoff which started in April 2020.

A high-level meeting will be held next week by the ministry of defence to discuss and grant these special powers to the armed.

As reported by ANI, in the previous approvals, the defence forces have signed contracts worth Rs 300 crore and equipment has been delivered within 3 months.

These powers are being granted to the armed forces yet again seeing Chinese aggression towards Taiwan and in the South China Sea lately and Pakistani agencies trying to carry out some operations along India’s maritime borders.

Today, on #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, I pay homage to all those who lost their lives during Partition , and applaud the resilience as well as grit of all those who suffered during that tragic period of our history.

— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) August 14, 2022

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, also spoke of the suffering that occurred during the partition, when Pakistan was established and hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee their homes.

The cruel chapter of Indian history that will always be remembered as the country’s split in 1947. Millions of people were killed and displaced as a result of the violence and hatred of Partition. The Home Minister via tweet paid his homage to the countless individuals who endured the worst effects of Partition.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his respects and condolences to those who died during the partition.

Singh took it to Twitter and paid his tributes by remembering all those people who lost their lives during the country’s partition. He honoured all those who began again despite being unable to forget the agony of partition. He mentioned, that the country will never forget the horrors of Partition.

India’s Partition

The Partition is widely regarded as one of history’s most violent and rapid displacements. The partition of India into India and Pakistan resulted in severe bloodshed and communal violence, property loss, and significant instability.

Estimates of the number of people killed range from 500,000 to over a million, according to the official document, but “the generally accepted figure stands at around 500,000,” according to the official document issued by the centre.

The Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE) established the CoE-SURVEI to promote the use of emerging technologies in land surveys, data analysis, and land management.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged Central and State Government Departments to ensure that land is managed properly in order for India to become a global manufacturing hub. Today, he spoke at the first session of a webinar to disseminate Geographic Information System (GIS)-based applications developed by the Centre of Excellence for Satellite and Unmanned Remote Vehicle Initiative.

The Directorate General Defence Estates established the Centre of Excellence for Satellite and Unmanned Remote Vehicle Initiative to promote the use of emerging technologies in land surveys, data analysis, and land management. According to Mr Singh, the government has taken several steps to address various issues such as land disputes.

He stated that the Narendra Modi government has repealed many irrelevant archaic land laws. According to the Minister, the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme has computerised the land records of approximately 94% of villages.

The Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE) established the CoE-SURVEI to promote the use of emerging technologies in land surveys, data analysis, and land management.

Singh emphasised the importance of clear land titles, saying that they are important not only for the convenience of land owners but also for the establishment of new manufacturing hubs.

“Collaborating with the private sector, the CoE-SURVEI is moving fast towards becoming a one-stop centre to meet the land survey, analysis and management-related needs of our country,” Singh said.

Change detection, land use analysis, and 3D imagery analysis are among the applications developed by CoE-SURVEI.

According to the ministry, the AI-based change detection software detects unauthorised constructions and encroachments on defence land.

It stated that the application, which uses satellite imagery from the National Remote Sensing Centre, has been installed in all 62 cantonment boards.

Singh emphasised the importance of effective and prudent management of resources such as land for optimal utilisation, noting that the global population is growing and so is the demand for resources.

New Delhi, July 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a meeting with his key ministers in Parliament House to formulate government’s strategy amid continued protests by Opposition members in both Houses of Parliament.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. Were among those present at the meeting.

The proceedings of both the Houses have been disrupted since the commencement of Monsoon Session due to protests by Opposition MPs mainly on price rise, hike in GST and alleged misuse of central agencies.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were disrupted minutes after the Houses reconvened on Friday.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu refused to admit notices given by a number of Opposition members including Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. Over price rise, hike in GST, alleged misuse of central agencies and Agnipath scheme of recruitment in the armed forces.

Opposition members have so far continued to raise their demands to suspend the business and take up the issues raised by them.

On Thursday, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh managed to conduct Question Hour. Amid protest by Congress MPs over questioning of Sonia Gandhi by the ED.

The disruptions in Parliament have been debated even out in the open on Friday with Joshi and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh locking horns on Twitter.

“Yet again the Modi Sarkar refused an urgent debate in the Rajya Sabha on galloping price rise and senseless increase on GST rates on food items. House adjourned till 12 noon. The Opposition is united that we want debate on this critical issue impacting crores of Indians,” Congress MP Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

“FM Nirmala Sitharaman has to be present in the house. Listen to member of all the parties, their demands and respond. Can’t they wait till FM recovers? Is it not basic courtesy? Congress has habit of lying and spreading misinformation, Jairam Ramesh is continuing this legacy,” responded Pralhad Joshi on Twitter.

On Friday, the government said in the House as well that Sitharaman has been down with COVID-19. And the Opposition should wait till she recovers.

The ongoing Monsoon Session assumes significance not only for election of the President and Vice President. But for the important government legislative business.

Before the start of the Session, the government said that various departments have indicated to present 32 bills in Parliament. During the current session and 14 of them are ready and have already been discussed by Standing Committees of Parliament.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on July 18 and it will continue till August 12.

The meeting of Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Defence is scheduled to be held on Monday. Wherein the minister will brief the Committee members. About various aspects of the recently-launched Agnipath scheme launched to recruit soldiers in the three Services.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and TMC senior leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay are among its members.

The move is seen as an attempt to address the concerns of the Opposition parties. Ahead of the crucial monsoon session of parliament.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has reportedly objected to the meeting saying it is an attempt by the government to evade discussion on Agnipath scheme in Parliament.

The three Services have already begun the process for recruitment of Agniveers. And notifications in this regard have been issued. Detailing salient aspects, terms and conditions of service. For individuals enrolled through the Agnipath scheme.

India and the US will now jointly overlook sea patrolling and exchange crucial intelligence to strengthen the bilateral ties.

India and the US get ahead with their plans that were discussed at the 2+2 Ministerial Meet in Washington DC last week.

Both India and the US will now jointly overlook sea patrolling and exchange crucial intelligence to strengthen the bilateral ties pertaining to maritime and other verticals like cyber security, space technology, and AI. India and the US aim to have a strong Indo-Pacific corridor, majorly to defend truculent China.

A senior spokesman of the Ministry of Defense stated, “India and the US re-assured joint operations over the sea patrolling and intelligence exchange via satellites and other discreet platforms. The 2+2 Ministerial Meet in Washington DC proved successful and operations have begun of cooperation.”

Routine Malabar naval drills are carried out in a phased manner by all the Quad countries (the US, India, Japan, and Australia). The joint sea patrol operation comes in the wake of troublesome China’s continuous encroachments. China has a staggering fleet of 355 submarines and warships in the region of the Indian Ocean.

Last week Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his counterpart Austin III and senior officials of Boeing and Raytheon to strengthen ties on various fronts apart from the obvious business ties.

The Ministry of Defence’s spokesman further added, “The US will send in their naval team to the Indian shipyards in tandem with India’s pact to repair and maintain American vessels. India will provide state-of-the-art facilities at nominal charges to the US.”

He revealed further, “$ 100 million will be injected by Raytheon for R&D in Bengaluru, Boeing will set up shop for maintenance, repair and overhaul facility for Poseidon maritime aircraft and other variants. India operates a fleet of 12 Boeing P-81 which is evaluated at $ 3.2 billion.”

India and the US renewed their Defence Technology and Trade Initiative alongside 2 major projects in the pipeline, ISTAR (intelligence, surveillance, targeting, and reconnaissance) and counter UAS (unmanned aerial systems) Platforms.

In the midst of Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, defence minister Rajnath Singh and external affairs minister S Jaishankar will meet with their US counterparts around April 11 to strengthen defence and political ties and exchange notes on Ukraine and Indo-Pacific theatres of concern.

In the midst of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, defence minister Rajnath Singh and external affairs minister S Jaishankar will meet with their US counterparts around April 11 to strengthen defence and political ties and exchange notes on Ukraine and Indo-Pacific theatres of concern reported ANI.

This will be the first two-plus-two dialogue between India and the United States since President Joe Biden took office. While India has noted with concern public statements from the US about New Delhi being “shaky” and on the “wrong side of history,” the Narendra Modi government’s position on Ukraine is quite clear, as it has called for the cessation of all violence, the resolution of differences through dialogue, and the territorial integrity of nation-states.

During telephone conversations, Prime Minister Modi expressed the same position to Russian President Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. New Delhi also recalls the EU countries’ silence, particularly Germany’s, in criticising China for the PLA’s unilateral transgression on the East Ladakh LAC in May 2020. The same EU countries continue to buy Russian oil and gas while blaming India for the Ukraine conflict.

During the two-plus-two dialogue, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Llyod Austin are expected to share the American assessment of the Ukraine war, which is now dragging on as Russian forces lose steam and Moscow re-defines war objectives.

The two sides will also discuss the Indo-Pacific, with the Chinese Navy expanding by the day and the PLA dragging its feet on restoring peace and tranquillity along the East Ladakh LAC. The PLA is still fully deployed in the occupied Aksai Chin area, with heavy weaponry and long-range missiles in Xinjiang and Tibet.

The American F-18 deck-based fighter being considered for the soon-to-be-commissioned aircraft carrier INS Vikrant will also increase India-US defence cooperation. The twin-engine multirole combat jet is expected to undergo ski jump trials at INS Hamla in Goa in April-May, following the completion of Rafale-M trials in January of this year. The Indian Navy is expected to spend at least.

The Vijay Chowk area adjacent to Raisina hills in New Delhi is all set to witness a swarm of 1000...

The Vijay Chowk area adjacent to Raisina hills in New Delhi is all set to witness a swarm of 1000 made in India drones hovering all over the sky during the Beating the Retreat ceremony on Saturday evening. The drone show will make India the fourth country, after China, Russia and UK, to carry out such a large scale show with 1,000 drones, said Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh as he interacted with Botlabs Dynamics team members at his residence. The drone show has been organised by a startup Botlab Dynamics and supported by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and the Department of Science and Technology. The occasion will be graced by President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others. For the first time, the show has been made a part of the ceremony to commemorate 75 years of Independence, being celebrated as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. “Synchronised background music will also be played during the drone show,” said Defence Ministry in a statement. “A total of 26 performances will enthral the spectators with foot-tapping music played by the bands of Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces. The entry band will be Massed Band playing the ‘Veer Sainik’ tune. This will be followed by Pipes and Drums Band, CAPF Band, Air Force Band, Naval Band, Army Military Band and Massed Bands. The principal conductor of the ceremony will be Commander Vijay Charles D’Cruz,” Defence Ministry said. Martial musical tunes with Indian fervour will be the flavour of the ceremony this year. “A number of new tunes have been added to the ceremony to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. These include Kerala, Hind ki Sena and Ae Mere WatanKe Logon. The event will come to a close with the ever-popular tune of Sare Jahan Se Acha,” the Defence Ministry said. Another attraction in the Beating the Retreat ceremony would be a projection mapping laser show to commemorate 75 years of independence. The show of around 3-4 minutes duration will be showcased on the walls of North and South Block before the end of the ceremony. Beating the Retreat marks an old military tradition in which the troops cease fighting, withdraw from the battlefield and return to their camps at sunset with beats of military bands. The ceremony officially denotes the end of Republic Day festivities in India.

“Visakhapatnam-class ships, built with indigenous steel, are follow-on of the Kolkata class destroyers commissioned in the last decade. Designed by the Directorate of Naval Design and built by M/s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai. The four ships are named after major cities of the country, viz. Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal and Surat,” the Indian Navy said in an official statement.

The Long-Range Bomb, after being released from the IAF fighter aircraft, was accurately guided to a land-based target at long-range within specified limits.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along with a team of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday, October 29 successfully tested the country’s first domestically developed Long-Range bomb (LRB) from a fighter jet at the ariel platform in Balasore in Odisha.

The Long-Range Bomb, after being released from the IAF fighter aircraft, was accurately guided to a land-based target at long-range within specified limits. “All the mission objectives were successfully met,” the Defence Ministry revealed in a statement after successful completion of the test.

The flight execution and performance of the bomb on land were monitored by a range of sensors, such as an Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), Telemetry and radar supplied by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha, the statement released by the Ministry further read.

The Long-Range bomb had been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, in collaboration with various other DRDO laboratories. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh later congratulated the DRDO, IAF and other teams affiliated with the successful flight trial of the long-range bomb, stating that the feat will come to be a force multiplier for the Indian Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, Secretary of DDR&D and Chairman of the DRDO G Satheesh Reddy commented that the triumphant test flight of the indigenously developed LR Bomb has “marked an important milestone” in the domestic development of the long-range class of weapon systems.

The Long-Range bomb is part of the class of weapons with a target range of 50 to 150 kilometres. The successful test of the LR bomb occurred just days after the country successfully test-fired the AGNI-5 missile from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The ministry had stated that the missile was capable of hitting targets at ranges up to 5,000 kilometres “with a very high degree of accuracy.”

Another motive behind the meeting is to tell the party workers to discuss with the people about the Amendment in Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act, which is supposed to bring clear administrative system in Delhi.

The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 15th March 2021, contains amendments that will give more powers to Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi. Bill also states that “government” in the city would mean the “Lieutenant Governor” in the context of any law made by the legislative assembly. The Bill also makes it mandatory for the Delhi government to take the opinion of the L-G before any executive action.

According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Central Government is aiming to complete all its military acquisitions by two years...

According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Central Government is aiming to complete all its military acquisitions by two years and will be encouraging private participation in these projects.

Addressing a post-budget webinar named ‘Budget Announcements 2021-22’, he said, “We will make efforts to complete the defence acquisition within two years, instead of the existing three-four years being taken on the average,” highlighting the efforts that the Center has been making to push forward the defence of the country.

Talking about the previous course of action the Ministry had been following he said, “the government has brought many reforms in the last six years. There is a clear focus of the government on ‘Ease of Doing Business’ to encourage foreign Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs), to set up manufacturing units in India, develop joint ventures and promote private participation in the defence sector.”

In the webinar, Rajnath Singh relayed that the Government’s focus towards achieving capital returns has increased in lieu of Union Budget 2021-22’s revenue allotment towards the defence and the ministry is aiming to “achieve a turnover of Rs 1,75,000 crore ($25 billion) including export of Rs 35,000 crore ($ 5 billion) in aerospace and defence goods and services by 2024.”

“To widen the investment base, the Government of India has enhanced FDI in defence sector up to 74 per cent under Automatic Route and 100 per cent under Government route. This would further act as a catalyst for foreign players to invest in India,” he also added.

Amid the ongoing standoff with China at the Ladakh border area, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement in Rajya...

Amid the ongoing standoff with China at the Ladakh border area, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement in Rajya Sabha regarding the ‘present situation in Eastern Ladakh’

On February 11, Rajnath Singh informed the Parliament that India and China have agreed to disengagement on the northern and southern banks of the Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh as both the sides have been locked in a stand-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the region since May 2020.

Rajnath Singh said, “Our sustained talks with China have led to agreement on disengagement on the north and south banks of Pangong Lake. After this agreement, India-China will remove forward deployments in a phased, coordinated manner.”

Singh while speaking in the Rajya Sabha said that some issues are yet to be resolved regarding deployment at the LAC until then patrolling in Finger area of Pangong suspended till a further decision is taken by military commanders based on diplomatic talks

He said that bilateral relations between the two countries can only develop, and the border dispute can only be resolved, through dialogue.

“China has positioned heavy artillery and a large number of soldiers along the LAC. Our forces have also adequately and effectively done counter deployments,” Singh reiterated, adding that Indian forces continue to be positioned along the border despite harsh weather conditions.

The defence minister informed the Upper House that India has asked China to accept and respect the LAC, not take any steps to unilaterally change the status quo at the border and follow the rules of engagement.

This came a day after the Chinese defence ministry announced that frontline soldiers from India and China at the southern and northern banks of the Pangong Tso in eastern Ladakh had started synchronised and organised disengagement from February 10.

“This move is in accordance with the consensus reached by both sides at the 9th round of China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting,” Chinese Ministry of National Defence’s Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian had said in the statement. India had not immediately commented on the matter.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, on Thursday, said at a news conference, that the Secretary made it very clear that we’re going to remain committed to a strong US-India bilateral relationship and had a good chat yesterday discussing a lot of issues, including our two nations’ response to the Coronavirus.

The government is likely to temporarily not proceed with the plan of merging state-owned telecom players Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited...

The government is likely to temporarily not proceed with the plan of merging state-owned telecom players Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) after almost two decades of deliberations on the matter. This comes in after a six-member group of ministers (GoM) recommended last week that it would be neither feasible nor beneficial thereby closing a long-drawn chapter in the telecom sector, Business Standard reported.

The Union Cabinet might soon meet and formally decide on the matter. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is also in favour of scrapping the merger.

The GoM comprised of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who chaired the meeting last week along with Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Home Minister Amit Shah, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The GoM decided against combining the two entities in order to prevent further erosion of BSNL’s value.

In October 2019, the Cabinet had approved a Rs 70,000 crore package to revive BSNL and MTNL.

BSNL and MTNL turned EBITDA positive in the first half of FY21, the telecom regulator said on January 11.
