50% of eligible Indian population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19: Health Ministry

50% of the country’s population, that is eligible for vaccination is now fully vaccinated. This is the moment of pride for all Indians considering the population.

Half of Indian’s adult population is estimated to be over 470 million which is more than the total population of Pakistan and Bangladesh combined together. It had been achieved in 11 months since the drive began despite of the resistance among some people.

But amid the rising fear of the Omicron variant, vaccination needs to be done at a higher pace. India is yet to decide on booster shots. Furthermore, steps that can add up to the vaccination drives could be making only vaccinated citizens eligible for certain benefits.

The gender disparity among vaccinated citizens needs to be addressed. Statewise focus must also be laid on vaccination status. More awareness programs need to be done specifically in the rural areas where people are ignorant to take the jab.

India reports 4th case of Omicron, first in Maharashtra

The fourth case of the Omicron variant has been confirmed in India. A 33-year-old man from Maharashtra, who travelled to Mumbai from South Africa via Dubai, Delhi, and has been found positive, making it the first case of this variant in Maharashtra.

On November 24, this unvaccinated passenger arrived in Mumbai after giving samples at the Delhi airport. 12 of his high-risk contacts & 23 of the low-risk contacts have been traced and tested negative for COVID-19. “Additionally, 25 of the co-passengers from the Delhi-Mumbai flight have also been tested negative. More contacts are currently being traced”, said the Maharashtra Health Department

3 Cases with the Omicron variant have already been detected in Karnataka and Gujarat. While the first two cases of the variant were confirmed in Karnataka and the other one on Gujrat.

The first case of the variant was of a 66-year-old South African man who came to Bengaluru on November 20 and left India after testing negative. The other patient is a 46-year-old man who is a doctor – an anaesthetist – at a hospital in Bengaluru. He tested positive without any travel history to South Africa or any other country as per civil officials body. In Gujarat, a 72-year-old man was found infected with the Omicron variant in Jamnagar after his return from Zimbabwe.

66% of the 18+ population have received COVID vaccines: Health Ministry

A quarter of the adult population has received both doses of vaccination. 23% of the 18 plus population received both doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 66% has received at least one dose of vaccine.

Union Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan stated that “23% of the 18 plus population has received both doses of COVID vaccines and 66% of the 18 plus population has received at least one dose of vaccines this is the result of unstoppable hard work of some States.”

Lakshadweep, Chandigarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman Nicobar Islands and Sikkim are the six state and union territories where 100% of the population have received their first dose of vaccine.

Dr VK Paul, Member- health NITI Aayog stated that “almost a quarter of the adult population have received both doses, it’s an important milestone” and informed that an advisory has been issued to make arrangements for ‘vaccinations at home’ for those who have disabilities or are differently challenged, in line with COVID-19 SOPs.

According to the government, Kerala is the only state with over 1 lakh active cases and have reported 31,000 new cases in the last 24 hours and most of these cases have been reported from Kerala and Maharashtra.

Earlier in the morning, citizens of India were being requested by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to give an outstanding present to PM Modi by getting vaccinated on his birthday, it was also being told by Mansukh Mandaviya that free COVID-19 vaccines had been announced by PM to all the citizens.

It was already being told by the Senior leader of the party that “the day will be recorded in the nation’s history as the one that witnessed a record number of COVID-19 vaccines administered.”

Adding further Senior leader said, “With the world reeling under the aftermath of COVID-19, India strived to battle the pandemic, and this would also be a befitting reply to those who tried to create vaccine hesitancy in people for purely political reasons and thus endangered the lives of people.” It is also said that party chief JP Nadda wanted to celebrate Prime Minister’s birthday in a special way.

Mumbai becomes first district to conduct 1 crore Covid vaccines

On Friday, according to the data published on the Cowin portal, Mumbai becomes the first district to complete one crore vaccinations against COVID-19. Till Friday Mumbai has conducted a total of 1,00,60,411 crore vaccine doses, 78% of the adult population was covered in one shot. Over 72.74 lakh people of Mumbai got vaccinated with the first dose and 27.86 doses with the second dose.

On Friday, 422 new COVID-19 cases got reported in Mumbai, the third straight day of more than 400 infections, and three fresh death, while 303 patients recovered from the COVID-19.

After reporting 190 infections, on August 16 in Mumbai it has witnessed a fast rise in covid 19 cases. The lowest daily count was marked since April 2020.

On Friday Maharashtra reported 4,313 new COVID-19 cases and 92 deaths. Since mid-August, Mumbai has had 42 sealed buildings through slums and ‘chawls’ (old row tenements) have remained free of containment zones.

Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Friday, “There is no possibility of fresh lockdown in the near future. I appeal to people to avoid crowding while celebrating the Ganesh festival. The celebration should be simple.”

“The government has been issuing various guidelines and they should be followed all the time,” the health minister added.

However, several individuals who tried to follow the steps ended up receiving incorrect results. Some of them said that the certificate had mentioned a single date for both doses. Others complained that they were informed that they were unvaccinated even when they were fully vaccinated.

As per a provisional report issued by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday evening, India’s cumulative vaccine coverage stood at over 50.62 crore, i.e., 50,62,18,296 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

On August 7, around 27,55,447 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered as the first dose and 5,08,616 were given as the second shot to the people aged 18-44 years.

As of now, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh have administered more than a crore cumulative COVID-19 vaccine shots in the age group of 18-44 years.

More than 10 lakh beneficiaries have been inoculated in the age group of 18-44 years for the first dose in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

Prashant Bhushan, the Activist Lawyer, on Twitter said about COVID vaccination which has been flagged as “misleading,” by promoting a 64 years old to double down his stance against what he had called “indiscriminate” vaccination.

By attaching a news article of a 45-year-old woman who died 10 days after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, Mr. Bhushan had tweeted on Monday that it is “responsible to prompt universal vaccination of experimental and untested vaccines especially to young and covid recovered.”

In a tweet which was a follow up for the previous one he wrote, “the healthy young have hardly any chance of serious effects or dying due to cold they have a higher chance of dying due to the vaccines the covid-19 outbreak and natural immunity then the vaccine gives them vaccines may even compromise there acquired natural immunity.”

Due to the above tweet Mr. Prashant Bhushan got a sensor by the social media platform which give him a warning that the content was misleading along with a slew of post by other users criticizing the view he had posted.

Mr. Bhushan post a deeper dive summarizing his view by calling it a “vaccine scepticism” and also added that he was shocked after attempt of the social media platform to censor his contrarian views.

Twitter has recently stepped up in its policies of content ever since the attack on the US capital by Donald Trump supporters.

India overpowered US in COVID-19 vaccination drive

India had given 32.36 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine doses and the Us had given 32.33 crore doses, India saw a new record in the total number of doses administered as it had surpassed United States for the same.

In the last 24 hours, India had registered over 46,148 new cases pf COVID-19 and 979 deaths, taking the total cases up to 3,02,79,331 and the total number of deaths up to 3.96 lakh. This drop in daily number of cases came after a tough battle against the second wave.

5.6 per cent of adults in India have been vaccinated so far with both the doses, however over 40 per cent of the United States population had received both the doses of the vaccine.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, tweeted earlier today that the India’s vaccination drive keeps gaining momentum and he congratulated to all those who were driving this effort. He added that their commitment remained vaccines for all and free for all.

In the previous one week, India had administered over 3 crore, 91 lakh vaccine doses. The Health Ministry in a tweet said that the milestone vaccination figure outnumbered the population of many countries like Canada, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

On Saturday, the centre told the court that it expects to get over 188 crore doses of vaccines by thr end of this year to vaccinate all the adults. In an affidavit, the Centre told the court that 51.6 crore doses would be made available for administration by July 31, leaving the requirements of approximately 135 crore vaccine doses.

The active cases are 1.89 per cent of the total cases. The Government has said that thr daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 46th consecutive day. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.94 per cent earlier this morning and had been less than 5 per cent for 21 consecutive days.

The Government had said that the Delta Plus variant which was believed to be more infectious is in 12 countries as of now. The centre has said that the virus was very localised in the country now, and was isolated and cultured at ICMR-NIV.

On Sunday while PM Narendra Modi was addressing the radio programme “Mann ki Baat”, he urged people to shed the vaccine hesitancy and said that his mother is almost 100 years old and she had taken both the vaccines as well, and he asked people to not believe any rumours related to vaccines.

Another challenge faced by the vaccination drive in India was the gender gap. Only 46 per cent of the women had received the jab while 54 per cent of men had received the dosage, which was a gap of 8 per cent. Dr. VK Paul, the Chairperson of National Expert Group said that the gender imbalance needs to be corrected in the upcoming days.

On Sunday, Delhi recorded less than 100 new cases for the third consecutive day, the national capital was gradually unlocking.

Vaccination to begin for children between 12-18 years before 3rd wave arrives

On Sunday the government stated that the COVID-19 vaccine will be available for children between age group 12-18 may start by the end of July or latest by August.

Dr.N K Arora who is the chairman of COVID 19 working group of NTAGI, the national technical advisory group on immunization said, that the trial for the Zydus Cadila vaccine is almost complete. By July end or in August, they might be able to start administrating the vaccination to children between the age of 12-18. At the moment only people who are above the age of 18 are eligible for taking the vaccination.

Dr N K Arora also added ahead that after studying the ICMR studies the 3rd wave is likely to come late, and before it arrives the government is targeting to achieve a goal of at least 1 crore doses per day so that the entire nation can be vaccinated between the time period of six to eight months. The NTAGI chief also mentioned that the rumours spreading about all the vaccination in the country are vague and that the vaccines in India are approximately 95-96% safe.

Dr N K Arora added later, “ICMR has come up with a method of study that says that we will experience the 3rd wave really late. We have a window period for 6-8 months for mass vaccination to be safe.”

On Saturday, the Supreme Court announced that the vaccination developed by Zydus Cadila will be soon available for children who are 12 and above.

87.2 lakh doses on new vaccination policy’s first day

On June 21, 82.7 lakh vaccine doses were administered in a single day, day one of the Centre’s revised vaccination policy that allows centralized procurement and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

The Centre is procuring 75 per cent of domestically available vaccines and distribute it to the states so that the states provide free jabs to people above 18 years of age at government vaccination centres.

The two major reasons for the soaring of vaccination numbers on Monday are: an increase in vaccine supply to states after the new guidelines came into force as well as an increase in the number of free vaccination centres, as said by top government sources to The Indian Express.

A top source told, “First we gave 2.95 crore doses to states to vaccinate any citizen who is above 18 years for free. Second, the capacities deployed by the states have been huge. More than 80,000 government vaccination centres were operational today.”

The officials added that the rise in the number of vaccinations should be seen within ‘the framework of availability’ of vaccines.

On Monday, over 68,000 vaccination sessions took place. Nevertheless, the participation of private sector was limited with around 2,000 sessions where recipients have to pay for their vaccine doses.

Officials hope for the numbers to further improve in the upcoming weeks.

Delhi records 316 new COVID cases, 41 deaths in last 24 hours

Delhi reported 316 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. With this, the tally of COVID-19 cases in the national capital has reached over 14.29 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 24,668. As many as 41 fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department. The COVID-19 positivity rate in the national capital stood at 0.44 per cent.

The number of new coronavirus cases and the positivity rate saw a slight increase from Monday’s figures. Delhi had reported 231 instances of the COVID-19 infection, the lowest since March 2, with the positivity rate dipping to 0.36 per cent, according to the health bulletin released on Monday. The fatalities stood at 36.

Forty-one more people succumbed to the disease in a day, pushing the death toll here to 24,668, the latest bulletin said On Sunday, Delhi had recorded 34 fatalities, the lowest in around two months, and 381 cases with positivity of 0.5 per cent. On Saturday, the city had reported 60 fatalities and 414 new cases of COVID-19 with a positivity rate of 0.53 per cent. The day before, it had recorded 50 deaths and 523 new cases with a positivity rate of 0.68 per cent.

According to a health bulletin issued by the Delhi government, 71,879 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The case tally stands at 14,29,791 in the national capital, including 14,00,161 patients who have either been discharged or have migrated or recovered. The number of active cases is 4,962, of which 1,795 are in home isolation.

Sajid Nadiadwala to execute the vaccination drive for the crew of Bachchan Pandey, Tadap, Heropanti 2, and Kabhi Diwali

India started its vaccination drive earlier this year. However, it gained impetus only in April after the country faced the guiltiest of the second wave of the pestilence. Indian citizens above the age of 18 are now competent for COVID vaccination in the country. Multiple business houses have taken the duty to vaccinate their hireling. The Hindi film industry too has stepped forth to vaccinate their people so they can all safely resume work again.

Reportedly, Hindi film producer Sajid Nadiadwala has decided to vaccinate the crew of his expositions which include the Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria starrer Heropanti 2, Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon starrer Bachchan Pandey, Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde’s Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali, and Tadap starring Tara Sutaria and Ahan Shetty.

Nadiadwala is also looking after the vaccination of his office staff and their families. The vaccination drive will happen on Monday for 500 employees and the production crew.

Sajid Nadiadwala is conducting the vaccination campaign to ensure the protection of his crew and employees as they begin work once the lockdown constraints are hoisted. All of Nadiadwala’s productions are presently in different stages of production and have deadlines to meet.

Sonu Sood feels Helpless and Heartbroken about not being able to help COVID patients

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination on Tuesday in Chennai. Vignesh took to his Instagram handle to share the photos of him and Nayanthara getting vaccinated. “Please please get vaccinated. Stay safe, stay indoors,” he captioned them.
