Delhi reports 16,699 new COVID-19 cases, 112 deaths in last 24 hours

On Thursday, April 15, Delhi Health Ministry released data about new cases COVID-19. Data released by department shows 16,699 new COVID-19 cases and 112 deaths in last 24 hours in National Capital.

This the fifth consecutive day on which the national capital has reported over 10,000 new COVID-19 cases. The total COVID-19 cases in Delhi now stand at 7,48,137, including 54,309 active cases, 7,18,176 recoveries and 11,652 deaths, as per the report published by Health Department.

In last 24 hours, total test conducted in Delhi stands at 82,569, including 59,401 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 23,168 Rapid antigen tests. Total tests per million in Delhi stands at 8,39,168.

Earlier today, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also addressed Press conference regarding COVID-19 cases and new guidelines.

While addressing he announced about weekend curfew to be imposed in Delhi to curb the COVID-19 cases in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal said, “Curfew passes to be issued to those rendering essential services. Malls, gyms, spas and auditoriums to be closed. Cinemas halls to operate at 30% capacity only. People will not be allowed to dine-in restaurants, only home deliveries permitted.”

• Gym, pools, malls, to be closed until further notice.

• Capacity of Cinema halls to be reduced to 30%.

• Only 1 weekly market allowed per day per zone.

• There will be no facility for dine in restaurants and only take aways will be allowed.

Arvind Kejriwal also shared information about availability of beds and oxygens beds and said no of oxygen beds is being increased.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 2,00,739 new COVID-19 cases and reached the milestone of highest single day surge and 93,528 patients got discharge, while 1,038 people died of this deadly virus. Total active cases in India is now around 14 lakhs.

On Thursday, April 15, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed press conference to inform about new steps taken by Delhi Government to curb the COVID-19 cases.

He further added, “To control the spread of COVID19, it has been decided to impose weekend curfew in Delhi.”

Arvind Kejriwal also shared information about the no of Vacants beds in Delhi and added “There is no shortage of beds in hospitals in Delhi. According to the latest data, more than 5000 beds are available.”

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, ‘I request you, do not insist on being admitted in one hospital, you can also go to another hospital.”

On 14 April, day 4 of the countrywide Tika Utsav, 31.39 lakh vaccine doses were administered till 8 pm. 69,974 COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs) were operational, marking a rise of an average of 24,000 operational Vaccination Centres ( 45,000 CVCs on an average are functional on any given day). Workplace vaccinations have also enabled such a high turnout of beneficiaries.

COVID SOPs: Cinema Halls to run with 100% Seating Capacity

On Saturday, Ministry of Home Affairs allowed cinema halls to run with 100% audience capacity from 1st February. After that, a new set of SOPs for cinema halls is released by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Still after allowing full capacity, basic COVID protocols will be followed like use of masks and six-feet distance in the waiting area. Also, there will be availability of touch-free hand sanitizers and spitting shall be strictly prohibited.

Also, there will be staggered show timings to avoid crowd at the time of entry-exit.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar took his Twitter handle to share this good news. He wrote, “Good news for Cinema lovers: Today, issued the revised SOP for the film exhibition, 100% occupancy will be allowed in theatres from 1st February, but all Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s COVID-19 guidelines will have to be followed.”

The news is a big sound of relief for film makers and hall owners. The past few months have been very tough for film makers and producers. Theatre owners are also ready to welcome back their audience in full capacity.

Cinema halls to open in Maharashtra from 5th November with precautions

Maharashtra had shut the door of its cinema halls to the audience since the lockdown began in March owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the cinema halls and multiplexes are all set to open from tomorrow (5th November).

An order issued by the state government of Maharashtra states that cinema halls and multiplexes can start operating from 5th November with 50% capacity. However, strict measures will have to be implemented to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The order reads, “Cinema halls/theatres/multiplexes/drama theatres will be allowed to open with 50% of their seating capacity in areas outside the Containment Zones only with effect from November 5, 2020. No eatables will be allowed inside the Cinema halls/theatres/multiplexes/drama theatres. The SOP for the same will be issued by the Cultural Affairs Department and local authorities. The Cultural Affairs Department will take into consideration the SOP issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Further, all norms of social distancing and precaution to prevent Covid-19 shall be followed.”

Earlier in October, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray had held a virtual meeting with cinema hall and multiplex owners. He had assured them that the cultural department was trying their level best to have the theatres reopen for the audience.

In a statement, the CM had mentioned, “In a cinema hall, people are in a closed air-conditioned space for nearly two hours. Hence, we want to ensure complete cleanliness and sanitisation as well as physical distancing. There is a need to ensure only 50% seats are occupied.”

The news has been welcomed by filmmakers, film exhibitors, and theatre owners across the state.

Khaali Peeli, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan to release in theatre, as cinemas reopen from 16th October

Cinemas in India will reopen by 16th October with restrictions that will include 50% seating capacity. Vivek Oberoi‘s ‘PM Narendra Modi’ and ‘Khaali Peeli’ staring Ananya Panday, Ishaan Khatter will be the first films to release in the multiplexes. Other movies like Thappad, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Malang, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and War will join the list in cinema halls.

Anubhav Sinha, director of the movie Thappad which was released on 28th February, believes that the shows were cut-short by the coronavirus pandemic. Meena Iyer, CEO of Ajay Devgn Films has also contributed to rerun the movie. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan directed by Hitesh Kewalya also contributes saying that reruns are not for box office glory. While theatres in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and some other states will continue to remain shut, business in the other states will resume following the guidelines.

The Ministry of Home Affairs made an announcement on Wednesday. The guidelines will be issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting which means that movie theaters will be back in operation before the festive season. 50 per cent of their seating capacity, for which, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be issued by the ministry, the Government of India mentioned it in the latest guidelines.

Multiplex association of India requests government to reopen cinemas, reveals loss of 9,000 crore in last 6 months

On Tuesday, the Multiplex association of India urged the government to reopen cinemas as the entertainment industry employs a large part of people and has incurred a loss of 9,000 crore in last 6 months. Multiplex chains like PVR, INOX and Cinepolis employs almost 2 lakhs people and provides employment in other department to lakhs indirectly.

The association has stated that almost 10,000 cinema halls have been close for more than 6 months and described it as the ‘soft power of India’ and main media of entertainment for Indians. Every industry has suffered terribly during the pandemic and the entertainment industry due to this condition is starting to loss jobs now.

Around the world China, UAE, France, Korea, Spain and many other countries have reopened their cinemas with utmost precautions amd safety for the audience. The film association also mentioned that with ‘Unlock India’ malls, restaurants, gym, airlines, railways and retails have been opened but the cinema halls are in so sign of opening.
PVR Pictures, which is one of the largest cinema chain in India tweeted, “The joy of watching stories unfold on big screen: the clapping, the laughing and tears. We miss it. Can’t wait to have you back at the movies #UnlockCimemaSaveJobs”.
INOX Leisure LTD said while retweeting the appeal, “Millions work behind the scenes, to make dreams come to life on the bog screen. Their jobs are at stake. Please reopen cinemas immediately”.

Cinema halls to remain shut till August 31: Ministry of Home Affairs

The Ministry of Home Affairs released nationwide Unlock 3 guidelines yesterday, which opened up some more activities outside the containment zones, but cinema halls along with other places still remain shut. The guideline further revealed that the restriction on cinema halls will remain in place till August 31.

The entertainment industry has been hit hard by the four-month-long COVID-19 lockdown. As shoots for several films have already begun and with cinema halls still getting no-go from the government, more and more production houses are going to take the second possibility, which is the digital OTT release. The trend started with Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann’s starrer Gulabo Sitabo which was released on Amazon Prime.

Meanwhile, Disney+Hotstar have lined up seven new releases which include Laxmmi Bomb (Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani), Bhuj: The Pride of India (Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt), Sadak 2 (Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt), The Big Bull (Abhishek Bachchan), Khuda Haafiz (Vidyut Jammwal) and Lootcase (Kunal Kemmu and Rasika Dugal). Other OTT platforms like Netflix have also bought digital rights of Janhvi Kapoor-starrer ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’.
