Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Friday reacted to the murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore, describing the incident as “inhuman and unforgivable” and assuring strict action against those responsible.

The Chief Minister’s statement came after growing public outrage and protests over the killing of the minor girl, who was allegedly abducted while stepping out to buy groceries in the Sulur area before being found dead near Kannampalayam lake.

“The horrific incident that occurred yesterday to a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore causes immense grief and shock. Such inhuman and unforgivable criminal acts can never be tolerated in our society,” Vijay said in a statement posted on social media platform X.

Police have already arrested two accused identified as Karthik and Mohan Raj in connection with the case. Authorities said the investigation is progressing and further forensic examination is underway.

The Chief Minister’s response followed emotional protests by the victim’s family and local residents outside the Sulur police station demanding immediate justice and stronger action. Family members had also sought a direct response from the state government before agreeing to accept the body from the mortuary.

Senior police officials, including Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Sandeep Rai Rathore, reached Coimbatore to review the investigation and monitor developments on the ground.

The incident has intensified political confrontation in the state, with opposition parties attacking the government over law-and-order concerns. Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin claimed that several major criminal incidents reported in recent days have raised serious questions about public safety in the state.

Meanwhile, ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leaders and ministers visited the victim’s family and assured that the accused would face the strictest punishment under the law.

The case has triggered widespread debate over child safety, policing and crime prevention in Tamil Nadu, with demands growing for fast-track legal proceedings in crimes involving minors.

Police said investigation into the case remains ongoing.
