PM Narendra Modi announces extension of free ration distribution scheme

On Saturday, March 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of the free ration scheme till September of this year. The decision has been taken after the cabinet meeting.

PM Narendra Modi announced the development on Twitter. “To further strengthen this power, the government has decided to continue the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for six more months till September 2022. More than 80 crore people of the country will be able to take advantage of this as before,” PM Modi tweeted.

The free distribution of ration was ordered under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna. Under the scheme, 5kg ration is distributed every month for free. More than 80 core of citizens will be benefitted from the extension of the scheme. The scheme was launched in March 2020.

Assam Government to fill 24,385 job vacancies in Educational Department

The Assam Government announced that a total of 24,385 job vacancies would be filled in the state’s educational department this year.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Chief Minister, led the most recent cabinet meeting, in which it was said that the state would initiate a major recruitment drive in the Education department which would include the appointments in Hindi, Garo, Bodo mediums, etc.

The job data provided by the Assam government showed that there were a total of 22,921 vacancies, out of which 10,000 posts were in primary education and 12,921 were in secondary education, which were yet to be filled up.

The Special Teachers Eligibility Test would also be held up to fill over 1,464 job posts which have been reserved for ST and also for the recruitment in Bodo, Garo, and Manipuri medium institutions in Assam under the education department.

The education department had also been asked by the cabinet for starting a process of filling up 22,921 sanctioned posts from September 1 onwards.

The weekly cabinet meeting today would provide relief to the Gorkha community and would ensure the land rights of indigenous people. It would also initiate a major recruitment drive in Education Department, which would include the Bodo, Garo, and Hindi mediums, etc.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with the top ministers and BJP Chief, JP Nadda, at 5 p.m, during the cabinet expansion news, has been cancelled.

The motive of the meeting was expected to be over the performance of thr ministers and the proposals for the future schemes of the government.

The meeting would be attended by Amit Shah; Home Minister, Rajnath Singh; Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman; Finance Minister, along with the other Union Ministers including Dharmendra Pradhan, Pralhad Joshi, Piyush Goyal and Narendra Singh Tomar.

On June 20, PM Modi held a meeting to review the functioning of the government in the past two years with the top ministers.

The Union Cabinet currently consists of 53 ministers although it can have 81 members, which means that there would be place for 28 more ministers in the cabinet.

PM Modi would likely to factor in the polls of five states for the next year and the national elections for the year 2024, as he expands his cabinet for the first time.

Jyotiraditya Scindia; Assam CM, Sarbananda Sonowal and Pashupati Para; leaders of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) coup against Chirag Paswan in Bihar, were in the main focus for this meeting.

In 2019, the Bihar Chief Minister had refused the BJP’s offer of one Ministry, hence it was not clear if Nitish Kumar, Janata Dal United, would finally join the Union Cabinet.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a virtual cabinet meeting and was attended by all union ministers.

Ministers discussed the present economic situation and some big projects for approval.

The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, India, and the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (UK MHRA) on co-operation in the field of medical product regulation.

The press statement from the Cabinet said, “The MoU will help in establishing a framework for fruitful co-operation and exchange of information between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and the United Kingdom Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency of the United Kingdom in matters relating to medical products regulation in line with their international responsibilities.”

The Union Cabinet has also signed the Memorandum of Understanding between India and Israel on Co-operation in the field of health and medicine. According to a press statement from the cabinet, the MoU covers areas of co-operation in “Exchange and training of medical doctors and other health professionals.”

The area covers, “Assistance in development of human resources and setting up of health care facilities; exchange of information regarding the regulation of pharmaceutical, medical devices, and cosmetics; sharing expertise for vulnerability assessment for the health of citizens against climate risk and public health actions targeted towards mitigation and adaptation.”

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved an investment of Rs 1810.56 crore for 210 MW Luhri Stage-1 Hydroelectric Project located on Satluj River. The project will generate 758.20 million units of electricity annually.

Situated in Shimla and Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, the project is being implemented by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited on a Build-Own-Operate-Maintain basis with active support from central and state government.
