As per reports, the legislative party of the Karnataka BJP is scheduled to meet this evening to select the a chief minister.

As per reports, the legislative party of the Karnataka BJP is scheduled to meet this evening to elect a chief minister. BS Yediyurappa who was the chief minister of the state resigned from his position in the last evening, following weeks of suspense.

As of now, the BJP has deputed two union minister namely, Dharmendra Pradhan and G Kisan Reddy as the central observers for the meeting to be held around 7 pm.

According to sources cited by ‘NDTV’ both the leaders are on their way to Bengaluru and are set to attend the meeting along with Arun Singh, the BJP’s state in-charge.

BS Raghvendra, party MP and son of Mr Yediyurappa on being asked who is likely to be picked for the position responded, ‘too early to say’.

He added, “The BJP’s decisions can never be foretold. For Example, Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh, Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra. Even the cabinet reshuffle was done based on several parameters. So it’s difficult to say.”

He further pointed that it is only yesterday that the resignation took place. The High Command is in a discussion to see who can head Karnataka. It will happen, he affirmed.

Following two years in office, Mr Yediyurappa submitted his resignation to the governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan in the last evening.

Lingayat strongman who spearheaded the BJP’s arrival in south India, expressed he quit “voluntarily” and further added that he will continue to be active in the state politics.

Mr Raghavendra on being questioned about the role that Mr Yediyurappa’s children will perform in the cabinet once a new chief minister is declared, he replied, “When Yediyurappa has no role in the cabinet, what are you asking about his children?” He added, Yediyurappa has said that he will be supporting the party in its way ahead and he has no role in electoral politics. The party will decide on each role.

BS Yediyurappa, batting dissent in Karnataka, has been pronounced as “lacking spirit or courage” to continue as Chief Minister in the latest attack from a party colleague. BJP leader H Vishwanath has shared his damning feedback with Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh, who is meeting with MLAs and others to assess the extent of the crisis in the state unit.

H Vishwanath, a member of the state legislative council (MLC), has made several serious allegations against Mr Yediyurappa. “We respect the leadership and contribution of Yediyurappaji. But now he has not got that spirit, that strength to run the government because of the age and health factor,” he said.

“All ministers are unhappy with the Yediyurappa government,” he said after his meeting with Arun Singh.

Mr Vishwanath also alleged “continuous interference” by the Yediyurappa family in the state government and administration. “In all the departments, his son’s interference is more,” he remarked.

The BJP leader also alleged that land was leased to private companies at a throwaway price and hit out at the Chief Minister over irrigation projects worth Rs 20,000 Crore being sanctioned without a board meeting.

Mr Vishwanath, a former JDS MLA, had revolted against then Chief Minister HD Kumaraswami and his father and party chief HD Deve Gowda to join the BJP. But he lost the by-election to the seat he vacated and lost out on a ministry, unlike comrades who were rewarded for their role in bringing the BJP to power.

Arun Singh’s chats with party leaders come at a time Mr Yeiyurappa is facing increasingly pungent attacks from his party colleagues. Several MLAs have been openly critical of their own Chief Minister.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the night curfew imposed in 7 districts, including Bengaluru, reporting high number of virus cases will continue. Currently, these places are under a night curfew between 10 pm and 5 am.

Speaking to reporters after chairing an emergency meeting with Health Minister K Sudhakar and top officials for about one-and-half hours, he said the Covid-19 situation was going out of control in Bengaluru and few other places.

“After 20th April we will sit once again and discuss and come to a decision depending on the advice of the Prime Minister and what decisions other states will take. I have gathered all the information.. we have discussed this on priority and we will take all the necessary measures at the earliest,” he added.

He also added, “The scenario in our state is different. No need to compare our state with other states. We have our own issues which need to be addressed.” He said that as far as COVID-19 is concerned, appropriate action will be taken to curb the spread further in the state.

Moreover, state health minister said that the authorities will be releasing a fresh set of guidelines for gatherings -social, political, cultural. “We’ve already imposed night curfew. Today we will issue a new circular regarding gatherings -social, political, cultural- we’ll discourage all these. There should be no more than 100 people at weddings in closed spaces and not more than 200 in open spaces,” directed Sudhakar.

Earlier also he had clarified that the statewide lockdown will not be imposed in the state. However, he had imposed night curfew in 7 districts of the state to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The seven district of Karnataka are under a night curfew between 10 PM and 5 AM till April 20. Those districts include Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Tumakuru, Udupi-Manipal. Notably, the curfew is limited to only these district centres and no rural areas come under these districts.

Karnataka on Thursday reported sharpest single day spike of 14,738 fresh coronavirus cases and 66 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 11.09 lakh and the toll to 13,112. The state had previously reported its biggest single day spike of 11,265 cases on Wednesday. The day also saw 3,591 patients getting discharged after recovery.

Congress leader Rajeev Shukla on Thursday demanded that Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa resigned from the post or be sacked to ensure a fair investigation against him, reported news agency ANI.

The crucial demand comes after Yediyurappa was allegedly involved in a 2019 corruption case wherein he tried to lure a JD(S) MLA to the BJP by offering him money.

“A transparent probe can only take place if (Karnataka) CM BS Yediyurappa tenders his resignation or he’s sacked. BJP should solicit CM’s resignation & new govt should order a fair probe in ‘operation lotus’ or whatever it is called,” Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said on Thursday.

The High Court on Wednesday raised a green flag for the investigation in FIR filed against Yediyurappa Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his former media advisor MB Maramkal in connection with “Operation Kamala,” reported ANI.

Karnataka High Court grants permission for investigation in FIR filed against BS Yediyurappa & his former media advisor MB Maramkal in connection with "Operation Kamala".

Congress leader Rajeev Shukla asserted that the BJP only talks of morality and cleanliness in politics but does not act against its people accused of corruption, reported NDTV.

He further contended that the BJP should solicit the resignation of Mr Yediyurappa and the governor should order an investigation against the Karnataka CM.

Mr. Shukla also emphasized that the issue was “very serious” and a serious investigation should be conducted.

The NDTV report also suggests that Mr. Yediyurappa allegedly offered money to the son of JD(S) MLA Naganagouda Kandkur, Sharanagouda to lure the latter to the BJP to topple the state government.

Mr. Shukla detailed the alleged involvement of Mr. Yediyurappa’s scams and mentioned that no probe has been ordered despite the high court giving directions in this regard. “The government should immediately probe the matter. The chief minister should resign and a quick decision should be taken on this,” Congress’ Rajeev Shukla said on Thursday.

Days after Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa issued a statement confirming that Tesla will indeed set up a manufacturing plant in Karnataka, there is still confusion over California-based Tesla and its founder, Elon Musk’s plans.

Ever since Tesla registered a subsidiary in Bengaluru earlier in January, speculation has been rife over the plans of the iconic electric vehicle maker to enter the Indian automobile sector. The company has remained silent about its plans.

The intent of the statement by the CM, was to show global investor interest in India, the people aware of the matter said.

“Our officials are in constant touch with Tesla and there is still no agreement on their plans even though we have offered all available options and assistance,” Jagadish Shettar, Karnataka’s minister for large and medium industries told Hindustan times.

Tesla did not respond to an email seeking comment.

The state industries department is engaging with the company that is reported to be in talks with at least three other states in the country.

Musk, founder and chief executive officer of the Cupertino-based Tesla, said on Twitter last year that the company plans to enter India “for sure” in 2021. Tesla India has named Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram and David Jon Feinstein as the three directors of its Indian subsidiary. Taneja is Tesla’s chief accounting officer; Feinstein is global senior director of trade market access at the company; and Sreeram is an entrepreneur and former Tesla employee who was part of the company’s launch team in China.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, on Friday, was seen making strong claims in an attempt to take a dig at his detractors. The BJP supporting CM said that he would continue as chief minister as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have confidence in him. This was said by him to get back at all those leaders who are saying that he will be replaced with someone. He also said that he will come out of all the legal battles as far as he is backed by the two.

“I want to use this opportunity to scotch such rumours by asserting that as long people are with me, and PM Modi and Home Minister Shah are backing me, nobody in the state will be able to ever replace me. I am ready to face 100s of legal cases. I am not worried at all as none other than Modi and Shah have reposed faith in me. That will not be shaken by anyone,” he said.

Yediyurappa also responded to the several statements made by the Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah saying that the leader is aware of the things and how cases are being filed falsely against politicians.

Karnataka Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa, tests positive for Coronavirus. The minister tests positive a few hours after the union home minister Amit Shah tested positive for the infection.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa, tested positive for the novel Coronavirus on Monday. The Minister was tested on Sunday as a part of the routine testing that the cabinet staff has to undergo. He was admitted to Manipal hospital immediately, where his test results turned out positive today. The minister, reportedly, is currently stable and is being monitored closely by the hospital.

The news came after Yediyurappa took twitter to inform that he has contacted the COVID-19 infection. While announcing his test results and his current condition, the minister urged people, who have come in contact with him in the past few days, to “be observant and exercise self-quarantine”.

I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine.

After his test results, the chief minister’s daughter was also tested and her results turned out to be positive. While, his son tested negative for the Coronavirus infection. Yediyurappa’s daughter, Padmavathi was also admitted to the Manipal hospital immediately.

Yediyurappa’s news flashed a few hours after the Union Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, tested positive for the COVID-19 on Sunday. The minister also took twitter on Sunday to announce that he has contacted the infection. He had also claimed to be “fine” and assured that he was admitted to the hospital only on the doctors’ advice.

— Amit Shah (@AmitShah) August 2, 2020

Earlier last month, one of BS Yediyurappa’s house-cum-office staff had also turned positive for the infection. In a statement, the minister said “I am going to discharge my duties from home from today for the next few days in view of some of the staff in the office-cum-residence testing positive”, as reported by NDTV.

It has also been reported that the Karnataka Chief Minister met Governor Vajubhai Vala and state home minister Basavaraj Bommai in a meeting on Friday.

The novel Coronavirus has so far infected over 1,24,000 people and has claimed over 2,000 lives in the state of Karnataka alone and about 1.8 million people across the country have contacted the disease so far.
