Britannia Industries Limited today issued a clarification addressing market rumours regarding potential disruption to its manufacturing operations due to industrial gas supply issues linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a press release, the company said it had received multiple enquiries regarding reports of possible operational disruptions due to industrial gas supply constraints in the country. However, Britannia clarified that its manufacturing facilities have not experienced any significant disruption due to the supply of industrial gas.

The company also stated that it currently maintains adequate levels of finished goods across its supply chain network to meet market demand, helping ensure uninterrupted product availability.

Britannia added that its manufacturing facilities use multiple fuel sources, including LPG, PNG, biomass and liquid fuels, which allows the company flexibility to switch between fuels where technically feasible. This operational flexibility helps the company mitigate potential risks arising from disruptions in the supply of any single fuel source.

The FMCG major further said it is closely monitoring developments related to industrial gas supply and will take necessary measures to ensure continuity of operations. Britannia also reiterated that it will make any required disclosures in accordance with SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015.

In the statement, the company expressed confidence that the Government of India is taking necessary steps to address any challenges that industries may face due to geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

The clarification was signed by Rakshit Hargave, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Britannia Industries.

Shares of Britannia Industries Ltd. are in focus today, after the bakery major reporting a 9.4% year-on-year decline in net profit for the second quarter of FY25. The company posted a net profit of ₹531.6 crore for the quarter ending September 30, 2024, down from ₹586.5 crore in the same period last year.

Revenue from operations, however, saw a 5.3% increase to ₹4,667.6 crore, compared to ₹4,433 crore in the previous fiscal.

The Q2 earnings fell below expectations from international brokerages. Goldman Sachs noted that while Britannia experienced high single-digit volume growth, the revenue growth was lower than anticipated, and the EBITDA margin faced significant pressure, likely to continue due to rising input costs in H2FY25. The brokerage maintained a ‘neutral’ rating with a target price of ₹5,350 per share.

As of 9:21 am the shares were trading 2.87% lower at ₹5,278.70 on NSE.

Similarly, Morgan Stanley retained an ‘equal-weight’ rating, citing downside risks due to inflationary pressures impacting demand and profitability. The brokerage has a target price of ₹5,424 per share. Japanese brokerage Nomura and Investec also issued cautious outlooks, with Nomura maintaining a ‘neutral’ stance and Investec a ‘hold’ rating, both pointing to Britannia’s ongoing margin challenges.

Over the past 12 months, Britannia shares have underperformed, gaining around 15%, compared to the Nifty 50’s 25% rise in the same period.

Britannia Industries, in collaboration with Bel Group, has launched a new cheese manufacturing plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra.

The facility is part of their joint venture, Britannia Bel Foods, and will focus on producing The Laughing Cow cheese products to cater to growing consumer demand in India.
Britannia Industries Ltd announced a 40 percent decline in its consolidated net profit for the quarter ending December 31, 2023,...

Britannia Industries Ltd announced a 40 percent decline in its consolidated net profit for the quarter ending December 31, 2023, registering at Rs 556 crore compared to Rs 932 crore in the corresponding period last year. The results slightly fell short of Street estimates, which anticipated a net profit of Rs 566 crore based on a poll of six brokerages.

Sequentially, the company’s profit also slipped by 5 percent from Rs 587 crore in the previous quarter.

This subdued growth in Q3 FY24 is attributed to several factors including a high base effect, price reductions, intense competition, and low single-digit volume growth.

Despite these challenges, Britannia’s revenue from operations saw a marginal increase to Rs 4,256 crore from Rs 4,196 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. Analysts had predicted a 3 percent year-on-year revenue growth at Rs 4,303 crore for the quarter.

The company, known for brands like Jim Jam and NutriChoice biscuits, reported a 2 percent decline in consolidated profit before exceptional items and tax, amounting to Rs 761 crore for the third quarter compared to Rs 774 crore in the previous year.

Notably, Britannia had recorded a one-off gain of Rs 376 crore from a stake sale in the year-ago quarter.

In response to market dynamics, Britannia had previously announced price reductions on certain products, responding to competitors’ strategies leveraging declining raw material expenses to lower prices and attract more consumers.

Shares of Britannia closed 2.24 percent lower at Rs 5,006.20 apiece on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on February 6, ahead of the earnings announcement.

On August 4, Britannia Industries Ltd. declared a consolidated net profit of Rs. 455.45 crore for the June quarter of FY24, up 35% from Rs. 335.74 crore reported the prior year.

The company recorded a sequential 18.3% decline in earnings from Rs 557.60 crore.

According to a regulatory filing, the company’s revenue climbed 8.36 percent from Rs 3,700.96 crore a year ago to Rs 4,010.70 crore, while it decreased 0.31 percent sequentially.

Most of the time, revenue matched expectations, while net profit fell short. Brokerages surveyed predicted Britannia’s net profit would be Rs 517 crore and revenue would be Rs 4101 crore.

EBIDTA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization, increased by 37.6% to Rs 689 crore. EBIDTA margin increased by 370 basis points to 17.2 percent. One hundredth of a percentage point is known as a basis point.

“We just had a very successful fiscal year that saw an economic recovery amidst historically high inflation rates. We took the lead on pricing decisions as market leaders to counteract inflation and retain profitability. However, this quarter saw a little easing in commodity prices, which led to an increase in local competitiveness. Given that circumstance, some price adjustments were made in order to maintain profitability, remain competitive, and continue to grow top line. Managing Director and Executive Vice Chairman Varun Berry stated.

On August 4, Britannia’s stock price on the NSE ended the day 0.08 percent higher at Rs 4802.55.

Today, Britannia industries posted a 22.4% increase in the profit after tax (PAT) for the third quarter ending, PAT stands...

Today, Britannia industries posted a 22.4% increase in the profit after tax (PAT) for the third quarter ending, PAT stands at Rs 452.6 crore. The company’s margins beat estimates coming in at 19.3% as compared to 16.8% in Q3 of the previous financial year.

In an investor call post the announcement of the Q3 results, the company’s Managing Director Varun Berry said, “We need to accelerate the pace of innovation which had taken a backseat during this period. We are also looking at some new launches. We will strengthen our distribution which had taken a hit from a quality standpoint because of lack of enough supervision owing to disruptions. We are going to focus on brand building and visibility as we were not advertising in the first six months of the year due to uncertainty.”

Due to COVID-19, like most FMCG companies, Britannia too continued to see higher growth in rural areas and also from traditional trades, while modern trade remained subdued in urban areas. “We are hoping that as things normalise things will fall into place with these channels as well. It is very clear which channels we are lagging in,” Berry said.

The company’s modern trade channel has also been impacted by the financial crisis faced by Future Retail and the subsequent delay in the execution of its impending deal with Reliance Retail. “Future Group used to be a very large part of our business, now it is completely muted. The other modern trade chains were also not growing much in large cities etc. Plus alternate channels like transit clusters, offices, hotels were all shut or operating at skeletal operations,” Berry explained.

In terms of their capex plans for the upcoming financial year, the company said it will review the capacity and demand outlook and decide the spend accordingly. For the whole of FY21, its capex will be at 60% of its usual spend at Rs 200 crore.

In commodity costs, a 25% increase in red palm oil prices continues to exert pressure for the company, and milk prices have started inching upwards too. Other commodity prices for raw materials like wheat and sugar are well under control, Berry added.
