Once again, the suspicious death of a newly married woman in Uttar Pradesh has triggered outrage and renewed concerns over alleged dowry harassment cases in the state. The latest case has emerged from Lucknow’s Thakurganj area, where a young woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances just months after her marriage.

The incident comes amid growing public attention over several recent cases involving deaths of young women, including the widely discussed Twisha Sharma and Deepika Nagar cases, which had sparked debates over domestic abuse, dowry harassment and violence against women.

In the latest case, the deceased woman’s father, Umesh Kumar Singh, has accused his daughter’s husband and in-laws of murdering her for dowry.

“My daughter did not commit suicide, it was a planned murder,” Singh alleged while speaking to media persons on Wednesday.

According to the family, the woman was married on November 22, 2025, to Bhupen Pratap Singh, son of Pratap Singh and Rachna Singh. The victim’s father claimed that shortly after the marriage, the in-laws allegedly began demanding ₹10 lakh and a car.

“The in-laws, greedy for dowry, were demanding ₹10 lakh and a car. Since January, she had been tortured repeatedly for money,” he alleged.

The family said they were financially exhausted after conducting the marriage and could not arrange the amount allegedly demanded by the husband’s family.

“We could not arrange such a huge amount after already spending everything on her marriage,” Singh said.

The father also claimed there was nothing unusual in his daughter’s behaviour before her death. According to him, the family had spoken to her around 11:30 am on Tuesday, and she was preparing to visit the hospital where her mother was admitted in the ICU.

“There was no sign of distress. She was murdered for dowry,” he alleged.

Police officials said the woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances and an investigation is currently underway. The body has reportedly been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities are recording statements of family members and in-laws, while further legal action will depend on medical findings and evidence collected during the investigation.

The latest incident has once again intensified concerns over crimes against married women in Uttar Pradesh, where several cases involving alleged dowry harassment and suspicious deaths have surfaced in recent weeks.

Local residents and relatives gathered in the area demanding strict action against the accused. Family members are seeking the registration of serious charges, including murder and dowry death provisions, against the husband and his relatives.

Police officials have assured that all allegations are being thoroughly investigated.
