‘Operation Sindoor set a new normal’: Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit highlights India’s military coordination

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit on Monday highlighted key lessons from “Operation Sindoor,” saying the operation demonstrated India’s growing defence capabilities, stronger inter-service coordination and the effectiveness of indigenous military equipment.

Speaking at an event organised by the Bramha Research Foundation in Mumbai, the Air Marshal said the operation reflected what he described as a “new normal” in India’s national security approach, where military preparedness and coordinated action were executed within a defined strategic framework.

“I want to bring out 3-4 points which are very important which we learnt from Operation Sindoor,” Dixit said during his address.

The Air Marshal stated that one of the major takeaways from the operation was the manner in which the capabilities and capacities of India’s defence forces and national institutions were brought together during the mission.

“First, how the capabilities and capacities of the defence forces and the nation were put into action, how the national will was transformed and took positive actions. This is the new normal we are setting,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of joint operational coordination among the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, saying all three services worked together seamlessly along with “all elements of national power.”

“Second, the coordination between the forces… all three forces fought as one,” Dixit remarked, underlining the increasing emphasis on integrated military operations and joint strategic planning in India’s defence structure.

Highlighting another major aspect of the operation, the Air Marshal credited indigenous defence equipment for contributing significantly to mission success.

“Third, we used a lot of indigenous equipment, so success can be attributed to the made in India equipments,” he said, pointing to India’s ongoing push toward defence self-reliance and domestic manufacturing under the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Dixit further said the operation succeeded in containing escalation “on India’s terms” while achieving its objectives within the intended timeframe.

“Fourth, we were able to contain the escalation of the conflict on our terms, and we were able to achieve our objectives in the given time frame,” he added.

While detailed operational specifics regarding “Operation Sindoor” were not publicly disclosed during the event, the remarks come amid increasing national focus on military modernisation, indigenous defence production and integrated theatre-level coordination among India’s armed forces.

India has significantly expanded investment in domestic defence manufacturing in recent years, including missile systems, drones, surveillance technology, fighter aircraft components and electronic warfare systems.

Senior defence officials have repeatedly highlighted the growing role of Indian-made equipment in operational preparedness and strategic capability enhancement.

The Mumbai event brought together defence experts, strategic analysts and policy observers for discussions on national security, military preparedness and India’s evolving defence ecosystem.
