Twisha Sharma death case: Family confirms cremation in Bhopal after second autopsy

The family of actor-model Twisha Sharma has confirmed that her last rites will be performed in Bhopal on Sunday evening following the completion of a second postmortem examination ordered in the high-profile death case that has triggered nationwide attention.

Speaking to reporters, Twisha Sharma’s cousin Ashish Sharma said the family had initially considered performing the cremation at the place where she had lived earlier, but later decided against it due to extreme heat conditions and logistical difficulties.

He stated that the cremation will now take place at Bharbhada Vishram Ghat in Bhopal at around 5 pm. The family also said Twisha’s father wishes to immerse her ashes in Rishikesh after the final rites.

Ashish Sharma further said that the postmortem procedure was still underway and could take another one to one-and-a-half hours before the body is released to the family.

Twisha Sharma’s brother Harshit Sharma also spoke about the identification process, saying it became difficult because the body was being identified nearly 10 days after death and a previous postmortem had already been conducted.

“Identification was slightly difficult considering it was being done after 10 days. There were changes in the body, and since one postmortem had already been conducted earlier, it became more difficult. However, she was identified through birthmarks and other features,” he said.

Harshit Sharma added that if all procedures were completed on schedule, the family planned to conduct the last rites at around 5 pm at the Bhadbhada cremation ground in Bhopal.

The case has remained under intense scrutiny after the All India Institute of Medical Sciences constituted a four-member medical board to conduct a second autopsy following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Twisha Sharma, 33, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, barely months after her marriage. Her family has alleged dowry harassment and foul play, while police have maintained that the initial postmortem findings indicated death due to hanging.

Meanwhile, her husband Samarth Singh was sent to seven-day police remand after surrendering before a court in connection with the ongoing investigation.
