Former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai says administration ‘disappointed citizens’ at first cabinet meeting

On Saturday, Basavaraj Bommai, a former chief minister of Karnataka commented on the state’s recently installed Congress administration. Basavaraj Bommai stated that there is a significant discrepancy between the ruling party’s pronouncements and election pledges while discussing the decisions made by the new administration at its first Cabinet meeting.

The statements made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following the first Cabinet varied significantly from those made by the Congress administration in terms of their pledges. Many announcements and quick implementation were anticipated, according to the public. On the buses, some of the ladies began to ride for free. After speaking at a news conference here, Bommai told ANI that today’s pronouncements have disappointed the populace.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, said that the new Cabinet had given the go-ahead to carry out the five promises that the Congress had pledged to provide during the election campaign.

In the manifesto, five assurances were made, and during the first cabinet meeting, the order was given to put those assurances into action. After the first Cabinet meeting in Vidhan Soudha, Siddaramaiah stated that everything will be in effect following the next cabinet meeting, which would be scheduled for within a week.

The five ‘main’ guarantees are 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti); ₹2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi); 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya); ₹3,000 every month for unemployed graduate youth and ₹1,500 for unemployed diploma holders (both in the age group of 18-25) for two years (Yuva Nidhi) and free travel for women in public transport buses (Uchita Prayana).

Also criticising the previous Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) administration, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah referred to them as “useless.” The previous administration was ineffective. Our fair portion of taxes was not appropriately obtained by them. As recommended by the finance panel, the Centre must grant us 5,495 crores, the official added.

Next week’s Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are designated as the Karnataka Legislative Assembly session days.

Centre releases Rs 500 Crore for Tumkur Smart City project: Karnataka CM

According to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the central government has released Rs.500 crore for the Tumkur Smart City Project.

According to Bommai, the central government has agreed to fund a 6,000-kilometer national highway in the state, as well as rail under and over bridges.

Bommai stated that 9500 crore has been transferred to farmer bank accounts through the Raitha Sanman scheme. The Ayushman Bharath Scheme has been extended to 1 crore people, and a sufficient number of Jan Aushad centres have been established. The welfare programmes speak volumes about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work. The rail projects in Tumkur, Shira, Chitradurga, and Davangere have been approved by the Modi government. Funds have been released to farmers for crop input subsidies and port improvements, according to the Chief Minister.

Shira, he said, is a drought-prone taluk, and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa devised a plan to fill tanks in the taluk with water from the Mudaluru and Upper Bhadra projects. Yediyurappa initiated the project.

According to Bommai, the central government was briefed on the region’s water problems and received permission to fill tanks from two other sources. However, they were unable to fill the Madalur tank. But, as promised, the then-CM Yediyurappa filled up the Madalur tank during the bye-election.

Bommai attacked State Legislative Assembly Leader Siddaramaiah for purportedly criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contributions. He said, “PM Modi is a true democratic given full autonomy to states and a firm believer in the democratic system. He has given several schemes to Karnataka. Siddaramaiah, while he was the CM, failed to explain correctly the state’s projects and requirements before the 15th Finance Commission because of which the grants had been reduced.”

Hizbul Mujahidin terrorist arrested in Bengaluru at mosque

A suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist has been arrested from Bengaluru in a joint operation launched by Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir Police. The accused has been identified as Talib Hussain was arrested by the police on June 5. As revealed by the police.

The accused Hussain was on the run from Jammu & Kashmir with his children and wife as the hunt for him was intensified by the armed forces, was hiding in Bengaluru. Hussain had taken shelter at a local mosque in Srirampur and was delivering sermons in Friday prayers. He was working as a laborer in the city. And none of his neighbors knew about him much after he moved in.

In this context Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai had confirmed that Talib Hussain was indeed arrested by the police.

When Mr Bommai was asked whether Hussain was a terrorist or not he did not provide a definitive answer as he said “Generally police keep an eye on people like them. We will provide whatever assistance is required to the Jammu and Kashmir police. In the past too, such arrests had taken place in Sirsi and Bhatkal.”

“The Jammu and Kashmir police have taken this very seriously”. Bommai further explained.

Kalaburagi, April 22: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said instructions have been issued for resolving the Azan row through peace meetings at the police station level. “The process is going on. Everyone should follow the law. There is a High Court order on Azan. A circular has already been issued in accordance with that. The rule also specifies the decibel level. The Director General of Police has already issued the circular,” he told reporters here. Some Hindu organisations including Sri Ram Sene have been demanding removal of loudspeakers from the mosques as per the Supreme Court’s order on noise pollution.

Sri Ram Sene President Pramod Muthalik has given a deadline of May 9 to restrict loudspeakers from mosques, and warned mutts and temples would play bhajans and Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers if this was not done. Replying to a question, Bommai said there are no differences in the BJP in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. “A few issues that had cropped up have been resolved. We are more united than ever. Greater importance is being given for the development of Kalyana Karnataka region. We are confident of taking everyone along,” he said. On PSI recruitment scam, Bommai said two persons have been arrested and the probe will go to the bottom of the irregularities.

Bommai rued that irregularities were perpetrated despite tight security and a transparent system. “Officials were instructed to conduct a thorough preliminary investigation immediately after getting the complaint about irregularities. The case was handed over to CID when differences were noticed in the answer scripts.” Reacting to the demand from opposition parties for a court-supervised or CBI probe, Bommai said a decision on further course would be taken after getting an interim report.

Kannada Actor Puneeth Rajkumar died today in a Bengaluru hospital due to a heart attack. Puneeth, 46 had been admitted to Vikram Hospital today morning in an “unresponsive” condition. However, in the afternoon, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai informed of his demise through a tweet: “I am deeply shocked that Kannada celebrity Shri Puneeth Rajkumar died of a heart attack. The death of Kannadigar’s favourite actor, Appu, has caused enormous loss to Kannada and Karnataka and I pray that God will have mercy on his soul and give his fans the power to endure this pain.”

However earlier today, News agency ANI tweeted: “Actor Puneeth Rajkumar was admitted after suffering chest pain at 11.30 am. Trying our best to treat him. His condition is serious. Can’t say anything as of now. His condition was bad when brought to the hospital, treatment on in ICU: Dr. Ranganath Nayak, Vikram Hospital, Bengaluru.” The hospital also said that the actor had been brought in unresponsive but that doctors were “trying (their) best to treat him.”

Puneeth Rajkumar was the son of veteran actor Rajkumar. He was lovingly called “Appu” by his fans – after the 2002 film in which he played his first principal role – and “Power Star.” Puneeth’s older brother Shiva Rajkumar is also a megastar.
