Bappi Da, who introduced nation to disco songs returned to heavenly abode on February 15. Each and ever person called this sudden demise as end of music era.

The 69-year-old singer had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday.

Bappi Da’s voice was the one that made the nation start groove. The million beats and his unique voice left everyone in awe with his music because he brought joy along with music.

He was a familiar figure for many with his trademark gold chains that he wore for luck and his sunglasses, was known for his songs in several films of the late 70s-80s. These included “Chalte Chalte”, “Disco Dancer”, and “Sharaabi”.

His last long in this Bollywood industry was ‘Bhankas’ was for the 2020 film “Baaghi 3”.

The legend Bappi Da is still an inspiration to all the young artists. Everyone will look towards his song to get inspiration from him now.

On 16th February,2022 one of the legendary songwriter and musician composer, Bappi Lahiri popularly known as “Bappi Da” passed away.
The situation saddened the music industry as 10 days ago the industry mourned the death of another legend late “Lata Mangeshkar” so mourning another legends death came as a upset surprise for the whole fraternity.

Amitabh Bachchan took this to his blog and penned down his heartfelt tribute to the late musician and adds how slowly they all are leaving us.

“Bappi Lahiri music director extraordinaire passes away shocked and surprised and in the misery of these tragic events of ‘passing’ in the rapid succession of times his songs of films with me are and shall I believe remain eternal they are played hummed sung along in these modern generation times with alacrity and rejoice and the ability of his sense of success with a particular moment, untethered checking in to board a flight at Heathrow from London to home and a gentle tap on your shoulder, ‘your this film is going to be very successful and the song I just gave, shall be remembered for ages’
He further added, “he was right and learning the graphs of some, at his modest home, in rehearsal, an even greater experience slowly they all leave us good night dearests it nears the hour of 2 am and the (sleep emojis) it colludes to perform well.”

Music composer-singer Bappi Lahiri, known as the disco king of Bollywood, died at a Mumbai hospital on Tuesday night, February 15, after suffering from a sleep-related breathing disorder. He was 69. The singer was admitted to Juhu’s Criticare Hospital, where he breathed his last at 11:45 pm.

Bappi Lahiri introduced disco songs in this industry. The singer was referred to as ‘Disco King’.

Various celebrities from music fraternity and the industry visited Bappi Da’s home to pay their homage like Kajol, mother Tanuja, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Shaam, Rakesh Roshan, Alka Yagnik and many more.

The last rites of Bappi Da will be performed at Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai. The mortal remains of Bappi Lahiri have already reached at Pawan Hand crematorium. His son, Bappa Lahiri, flew down from the USA to attend his father’s final rites.

As we know, Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri were notable singers. Lata Ji was more interested in classical music and lived a simple life while Bappi Lahiri was more into disco music. In Indian films, he only popularized synthetic disco music and sang some of his songs. He always wore a lot of gold.

Bappi Lahiri was an Indian music composer and songwriter who was popularly known for his Disco tunes and eye-catching fashion sense. He was fondly known as “Bappi Da” and was the one who started disco music in India. He had a very lively presence and attitude towards everyone he met, but many issues made him upset and forced him to speak out for them.
There was a controversy that revolved around a casual comment made in Karan Johar’s, “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”. While playing a guessing game one of the songs that came up was a song composed by Bappi Lahiri, “Taki O Taki” from the movie Himmatwala that Ranbir Kapoor mouthed as “Tacky O Tacky”. His son Bappa Lahiri commented that the remark made his father deeply hurt as it was a mockery on his work.

“Indu Sarkar” was a movie by Bhandarkar that was set in the period when Indira Gandhi imposed a state of emergency across the country. The trailer made congress workers protest against the movie’s release thus resulting in its cancellation. Bappi Lahiri who was a part of the political party came out and supported Bhandarkar saying that he was his favorite filmmaker and one of the good directors in the film fraternity. The “Disco Dancer’ hitmaker didn’t comment any further on this issue.

Bappi Lahiri once regarded himself as “Amitabh Bachchan” of the Film industry, he even went forward and talked about his western competitors and how they copy him. He mentioned that Eminem, Shakira, and Beyonce dress like him. He had always been known and popular for this eye-catching fashion sense that included a lot of gold necklaces.

One of his most wildly popular songs “Thora Resham Lagta Hai” from the 1982 movie ‘Jyoti’ gained international attention and was sampled by the American producer DJ Quik when he accidentally heard the song on TV one morning. Dr. Dre was the Executive producer on this, the sample turned out to be “Thora Resham Lagta Hai” by the late Lata Mangeskar, but neglected to clear the rights to the song. As the result Bappi Lahiri sued Dr. Dre and won. Soon the original song was remixed by Indian composer Harry Anand as “Kaliyon Ka Chaman” sung by Shaswati Phukan.

Composer Anandji said, “Bappi Lahiri was an ambitious and hard-working composer. He was a sincere and good-hearted man, who loved his work and enjoyed creating new sounds. He arrived on the scene with new ideas and some extremely different kind of soundtracks which worked wonders with the audience. Not only did he adapt to the changing times, he also changed trends in Hindi film music. He introduced certain styles which will be remembered as his signatures. We used to meet each other at award functions and other such industry gatherings. He was always jovial and happy – even when people cracked jokes about the kind of gold jewellery he often wore. He met me with a lot of warmth and respect. I pray for his departed soul. This month has been difficult for the industry. We lost Lata Ji and now, Bappi Lahiri, too.”

Singer Shreya Ghoshal wrote, “I will always remember you as the true rock star of our country. Your music, your personality, everything about you dada, was iconic. Alokesh Lahiri popularly known as Bappi Lahiri was born on 27th November in the year 1952. He was an Indian songwriter, composer, politician, and record producer. He was well respected in the field of music and was seen as a legend that had fostered upcoming talents under his wing. He was born in a Bengali family in Jalpaiguri, both his parents were singers and musicians in classical music.

He gave the industry some legendary hits that will remain with people for decades to come. In the 1980s throughout the 1990s, he was popular with his filmy tracks some of which have been remixed recently but the roots were sowed by Bappi Lahiri himself, Warder, Disco Dancer, Namak halal, Masterji, Bewafai, Naya Kadam were some of his masterpieces. with the introduction of modern cinema and new-age actors, his style of music changed as well with the trends of the new generation. Some of his New Age music included Law lag gye, tune maari entriyaan, Asalaam-e-ishqum, ooh la la.

He was awarded for this music composition and songwriting on various platforms some of them being- the Filmfare award in the year 1985 for “Sharaabi” under the category of best music director, in 2012 he revived the Mirchi music award for “ooh la la” under the category of best item song of the year, in 2018 he received the “lifetime achievement award”.

With him gone the music industry, has lost a legend who had always been a backbone for the industry. His legacy will be continued for generations to come in the hearts of people who’ve been with him throughout his journey and the people who made his dreams and aspirations possible with their love and support for his works.

Bappi Lahiri’s funeral to be held tomorrow

Mumbai, Feb 16 (UNI) The funeral of Disco King Bappi Lahiri, who passed away in Mumbai, will be held on February 17, the family said on Wednesday. In a statement, they said, “It is a deeply sad moment for us. Our beloved Bappi Da has left for heavenly abode last midnight. The cremation will take place on arrival of Bappa (his son) From LA tomorrow mid-morning. We are seeking love and blessings for his soul. We will keep you updated.” Lahiri, who was suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) for past one year and recurrent chest infection, was hospitalised in Criticare Hospital, Juhu, for 29 days, the hospital said in a statement. He was discharged on February 15 but later his health deteriorated and was re-admitted in a critical state. At 11:45 pm on Tuesday, the 69-year-old singer-composer succumbed to his illness, the hospital added. He was also hospitalised last year after he tested positive for coronavirus. Fondly known as Bappi Da, real name Alokesh Lahiri, was born in 1952 in a family of singers Aparesh Lahiri and Bansuri Lahiri in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. He was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at 63rd Filmfare Awards in 2018. In 1974, the singer started his career with his composition for the Bengali film ‘Daadu’. Bappi Lahiri was known for popularising the disco music in Bollywood as he delivered popular songs in several films of the late 1970s-80s like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Namak Halal’, ‘Dance Dance’ and ‘Sharaabi’. Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri, who popularised disco music in the 80s and 90s, died at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday morning at the age of 69. “Shocked to hear about the untimely demise of legendary singer and music composer Bappi Lahiri,” Banerjee said. “A boy from our North Bengal, he rose to all-India fame and success by the dint of his sheer talent and hard work, and made us proud by his musical contributions,” the chief minister, who is also the chairperson of AITC, maintained. After testing positive for COVID-19, Bappi Lahiri admitted to hospital for ‘precautionary measure’

Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri was admitted to a Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital late Wednesday night. He has been diagnosed with “mild COVID-19 symptoms” said his daughter Rema Lahiri Bansal in a statement, reported by news agency PTI.

The singer was admitted to the hospital as a “precautionary measure,” his daughter told PTI.

The statement that was issued by Bappi Lahiri’s spokesperson on Wednesday night said, “Bappi Da has exercised immense precaution but has been detected with mild COVID symptoms. He has been admitted under the care of Dr Udwadia at Breach Candy Hospital purely as a precautionary measure due to his age.”

Her daughter also added “He will be fine and home soon. Thank you for keeping him in your prayers always.”

Singer Bappi Lahiri admitted to the hospital after testing COVID-19 positive

Bappi Lahiri was taken to the hospital and admitted after he was diagnosed with COVID-19. Reema Lahiri, his daughter, confirmed the same and said he has been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai. The veteran singer and music composer tested COVID-19 positive on Wednesday.

“Bappi Da has exercised immense precaution but has been detected with mild Covid symptoms. He has been admitted under the care of Dr Udwadia at Breach Candy Hospital purely as a precautionary measure due to his age. He will be fine and home soon. Thank You for keeping him in your prayers always,” Reema wrote in her statement.

“He seeks blessings and wishes of his fans, friends & everyone from India and abroad. On behalf of Bappi Da, we passing his message to all his well-wishers and fans to stay healthy, stay blessed,” she added.

Recently, the singer had announced on his social media handle that he had pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine.

He has composed songs for many films including Himmatwala, Namak Halaal and Rocky Dancer. He also recreated his song “Areey Pyar Kar Le” for the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’.

Bappi Lahiri clears the air around Namak Halal remake, says ‘Nobody has approached me yet’

The news of one of Amitabh Bachchan‘s biggest hit Namak Halal getting a remake sent the media into a frenzy. The chain of speculations started after producer Murad Khetani bought the remake rights for the 1982 blockbuster. The film which was a historic success had iconic songs like Pag Ghungroo, Jawani Jaan-e-man. The mastermind behind these songs Bappi Lahiri, also wonders if the producer intends to use the original music.

In a chat with SpotboyE, Bappida cleared the air, “Nobody has approached me. So I don’t know what their plans are. But the music that I did for Namak Halaal is remembered and hummed to this day. One cannot imagine Namak Halaal without ‘Pag Ghungroo’.”

The 11-minute song sequence which was shot by Prakash Mehra is the longest song sequence in any Hindi film. The song won Kishore Kumar a Filmfare award and is truly one of Bappida’s finest works.

Bappida also stated that the film has a very special place in his heart. Talking about the film, he said, “It was my first film with Prakash Mehraji. Before this, he worked with the great Kalaynji-Anandji in Haseena Maan Jayegi, Zanjeer, Haath Ki Safaai and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Namak Halaal was a big challenge for me. After this Prakash Mehaji and I did Sharaabi with Bachchan Saab again taking the songs to unexpected heights.”

Veteran Senior Actor Vishal Anand, also known as Bisham Kohli, took his last breath on Monday, i.e. 4th October due to prolonged illness. He was very well known for his role the in movie Chalte Chalte in which he shared the screen with Simi Garewal. Many senior actors, singers, producers from the Bollywood Industry has expressed their sorrows over the demise of the veteran actor, especially singer Bappi Lahiri.

On the demise of Vishal Anand, the singer said, “Jab dost chala jaata hai toh dukh hota hai. I am glad you called to ask me about Bisham Kohli. He was the brother I never had. When I came to Mumbai from Kolkata to make a name for myself among stalwart composers like S D Burman, Naushad, Madan Mohan, Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal and R D Burman who would have thought of giving me a chance? Bhisham took a chance on me. That’s how Chalte Chalte happened.”

Bappi Lahiri was one of the most closed people to the late actor Vishal Anand. He continued to say, “I poured my entire being into the soundtrack. It was a turning point for me. Bhisham (Vishal) not only produced the film he also played the lead. My song ‘Chalte Chalte Mere Yeh Geet Yaad Rakhna’ which Kishoreda sang to perfection and which is my life and career’s signature tune was filmed on Bhisham. Two years later he starred in Dil Se Mile Dil and he also directed the film. This also had lovely music by me. But couldn’t be as successful as Chalte Chalte. Bhisham also directed Kismet with Mithunda in the lead. That too had my music. I was not only close to Bhisham but also to his two brothers. In Harsh Kohli’s Aap Ki Khatir I had the hit song ‘Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost’. I owe that family a lot.”

In his career as an actor, Vishal Anand appeared in 11 Hindi films and has worked with artists such as Simi Garewal, Ashoke Kumar, Mehmood, and others.
