National-award winning actress Surekha Sikri dies, at 75

Veteran actor Surekha Sikri passed away due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai at the age of 75. “Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke, ” the actor’s manager confessed to IndianExpress.

The National award winning actor’s career stretched from theatre and television to films and web series. She made her acting debut with the political drama film ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ in 1978 and portrayed author-backed character across several movies in the industries. She received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice, including Mammo (1995), Tamas (1988), and Badhaai Ho (2018).

Surekha Sikri established a lot of rage with her character of a brutal lady ‘Kalyani Devi’ in Indian daily-soap ‘Balika Vadhu’. She was part of the show from its beginning (2008) till its end in 2018. Her act as a matriarch in 2018’s ‘Badhaai Ho’ was also much applauded by the audience. The actor had appeared in a wheelchair to pick up her honor. She was last seen in Netflix’s short film Ghost Stories which was directed by Zoya Akhtar.

Earlier, in 2018, Surekha had also suffered from a brain stroke after she slipped in the bathroom and strike her head. In 2019, she informed Hindustan Times, “I had a brain stroke ten months ago and I have been recovering since then. I fell down and hit my head in the bathroom while shooting in Mahabaleshwar. I have not been able to work due to my illness. The doctors say that I will be alright soon.”

Bollywood stars Rajkumar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar‘s much discussed about comedy-drama Badhaai Do, went on floors last week. Bhumi shared a glimpse into the shoot on Wednesday. She took to Instagram to share her first picture with Rajkumar Rao. The movie is a sequel to the National-Award winning blockbuster, ‘Badhaai Ho’. To acquaint the characters of the film to viewers, the actress wrote, “Do mastane chale zindagi banane, Bande saying aur naam ke deewane #SumiAurShardul #BadhaaiDo”

In the selfie, we can see Rajkumar Rao in a new look. He is seen donning a mustache as Bhumi poses close to him. Rajkumar Rao will be playing a solo male cop in an all-female police station an Bhumi Pednekar will be seen essaying the role of a PT teacher.

The actors previously took to their respective social media handles and shared on the new movie that went on floors from January 5. He had shared a picture with Bhumi, where they held clapboards together. He captioned the picture as, “Shuru ho gai hai hamari kahani, Jahan hai dono Raja aur Rani, Shardul Aur Sumi hai ekdam pyaare, Yeh dono hai situation ke maare, Milenge hum aapse jald, Ho jayega tab sab clear aur tab hum kahengey.”

‘Badhaai Ho’ enjoyed critical and commercial success upon release. Directed by Amit Sharma, it featured Ayushman Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra in the lead roles.

‘Badhaai Do’ is directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni. He previsouly helmed the Gulshan-Devaiah starrer comedy flick ‘Hunterr’ (2015). The upcoming movie is penned by Suman Adhikary and Akshat Ghildial, who had co-written ‘Badhaai Ho’.

Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar’s Badhaai Do will address Lavender marriage

Badhaai Ho was a major success when it was released in 2018. Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta won people’s hearts with the film revolving around accidental parental pregnancy. The film took the viewers on a comedic journey from resistance to acceptance. Now the makers of the film are keen on continuing the franchise with Badhaai Do. Set for a 2021 release, Badhaai Do will be starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles.

While the production is yet to begin, very little is known about the plot. Hunterr fame director Harshvardhan Kulkarni promised that the sequel will be as entertaining as the 2018 hit. Now in an exclusive report by PeepingMoon, it is revealed that Badhaai Do will revolve around Lavender marriage. “Lavender marriage is described as a marriage between a man and a woman in which one or both parties are homosexual. Also called a marriage of convenience, it’s done to hide one or both partners’ sexuality to protect public reputation. Badhaai Do taps this same relevant social issue but in the most hilarious manner just like the first part. The film is about the goof-ups that follow when a gay and a lesbian (played by Rajkummar and Bhumi respectively) get married to each other due to their family pressure,” revealed a source.

In the film, Rajkummar Rao will be playing the role of the only male cop in a Mahila Thana while Bhumi will take on the role of a PT teacher who aspires to play handball for India’s national team. While the concept is new to most of the people, the film is expected to be a progressive step towards addressing homophobia and creating awareness of Lavender marriage.

The source adds, “A Lavender marriage looks like a typical marriage but in reality, the couple lives apart and lead entirely separate lives. They are pressured to live a double life in the fear of being disowned by society. Badhaai Do fights this taboo sensitively and with gentle humour.”

Neena Gupta celebrates 2nd anniversary of ‘Badhaai Ho’, shares picture from set

Badhaai Ho completes its second anniversary this year. The movie was one of the biggest hits of 2018. The script, cast and performance was a huge hit as it was a family entertainment film. Director Amit Sharma casted Ayushmann Khurrana, Gajraj Rao, Sanya Malhotra and Neena Gupta as lead roles in the movie.

Neena Gupta is a popular Indian veteran actress and a director of TV serials. She made her comeback on the big screen with this film after her Instagram post asking for work was viral. She also won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress in the year 2019, for the role she played in Badhaai Ho. As a memory from the ‘Badhaai Ho’ set, Neena Gupta has uploaded a picture of the final dance song ‘Morni Banke’ to her Instagram.

The caption for the adorable photo read, “Doe saal ho gaye thank you all missing every one.” Ayushmann and Sanya were quick to comment as they replied with multiple heart emojis in the comments section.

Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao’s Badhaai Do is all set to go in January 2021

Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar are all set to share screen space for a sequel titled Badhaai Do. The announcement was made on the second anniversary of Badhaai Ho.

The film titled Badhaai Do will be directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni and it will be produced by Junglee Pictures. The second part of the franchise will have a different storyline. In Badhaai Do, Rajkummar Rao will play the role of a cop, while Bhumi Pednekar, will be seen playing the role of a PT teacher. The film was previously scheduled to kickstart in June this year, but like other upcoming projects, it faced a delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary are the script writers for the sequal.

Harshavardhan Kulkarni says, “Family comedies are evergreen and the idea is to create wholesome entertainment that can be enjoyed with the entire family”. Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao shared fun photos on their social media. In the picture, the duo can be seen wishing each other as they extend greetings.

Veteran actress Surekha Siri discharged from hospital, doctors recommend physiotherapy

National Award Winner and Veteran actress Surekha Sikri, popularly known as Dadisa from Balika Vadhu and Badhaai Ho, was admitted to hospital after she had a brain stroke. Later, it was confirmed by her manager that Surekha Sikri’s health is better and stable now. According to the reports, the actress suffered a brain stroke which was confirmed by a nurse of Juhu Hospital, Mumbai. The veteran actress was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

As per the latest reports which are turned in, Dadisa is discharged from the hospital and is in good health now. Doctor Ashutosh Shetty, who was taking care of the actress, told ETimes that she has gone to her home two days ago and her condition is stable now. Surekha Sikri is at her place under the supervision of Pinky, her most trusted caretaker-nurse.

Dr Ashutosh Shetty, who is a neurologist, told ETimes, “Surekhaji has improved from the time she suffered the stroke. She recognises people. She is even walking with support. Of course, she will need time before she can resume working and needs physiotherapy now.” Whereas her caretaker, Pinky, said, “Honestly, her family members have forbidden me to talk. But since you have spoken to the doctor already, I can only add that Surekhaji is stable and we came home on the 22nd’s evening.”
