Babul Supriyo took oath as TMC MLA in Bengal Assembly

Kolkata, May 11: Ruling Trinamool Congress winner from Ballygunge Babul Supriyo was sworn in as MLA on Wednesday. Deputy Speaker of the state assembly Ashish Bandyopadhyay administered the oath of office to him at Naushar Ali’s chamber on Wednesday. After taking oath, the MLA of Ballygunge said, “I started working as MLA a long time ago. In the afternoon there is a program in my ward . Let’s go there. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter. I will follow the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Thanks to him for giving me the opportunity to work. ”

Assembly Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay did not attend his swearing-in ceremony. He was in his house during the swearing-in ceremony. Trinamool state president Subrata Boxi, secretary general Fisheries Akhil Giri, state minister Sandhya Rani Tudu, chief whip Nirmal Ghosh and deputy chief whip Tapas Roy and Rasbihari MLA and South Kolkata district chief were present on the occasion. Incidentally, Babul defeated Left Front candidate Saira Halim by 20,036 votes in the April 16 BallygungeAssembly by-election. From then on, his swearing in was delayed for one reason after another. With the parliamentary office seeking permission from Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for Babul’s swearing-in, he called the government accountable for the bill stuck. Former BJP MP from Asansol, Babul Supriyo joins West Bengal’s ruling party, Trinamool Congress

On September 18, Former union minister and sitting MP Babul Supriyo joined West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress. TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and TMC MP Derek O’Brien were also present for welcoming MP Babul Supriyo.

“National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, former Union Minister and sitting MP Babul Supriyo joined the Trinamool family,” All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) wrote on Twitter.

“I meant it from my heart when I said I will leave politics. However, I felt there was a huge opportunity that was entrusted to me (on joining TMC). All my friends said my decision to leave politics was wrong and emotional,” said Babul Supriyo while joining Trinamool.

“I am very proud that I am changing my decision. I am coming back for a great opportunity to serve Bengal. I am very excited. I will meet Didi (CM Mamata Banerjee) on Monday. I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome. A great opportunity has been given to me by Didi and Abhishek, has I have joined TMC, there is no point in holding on to my seat in Asansol. I’ve come into politics because of Asansol. I will do for that constituency as much as possible.” After the announcement of quitting politics made by former BJP leader and Asansol MP a month ago, Babul Supriyo announced to join TMC.

In August Babul Supriyo said that he will continue to work constitutionally as an MP in Asansol. As politics is seen beyond the constitutional post, he will withdraw himself from it. He is not going to join any other party and will leave the MP bungalow in Delhi and release security personnel from their duties soon.

In July during the Cabinet reshuffle, Babul Supriyo lost his post in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ministry this year, and after days of it, he quit the party mentioning the difference of opinion between him and other leaders of the West Bengal BJP unit.

Babul Supriyo, BJP MP and Ex-Union Minister has quit politics and made an announcement via his facebook page.

Babul Supriyo posted saying goodbye to his people, and said that he would not go to any political party. He assured that none of the parties including TMC, Congress, CPI(M) had called him and he was going nowhere and also added saying that a person doesn’t need to be in politics to do social work.

Babul Supriyo also mentioned in the posts on Facebook that he would leave his government allotted residence in an month’s time. He also mentioned that he was resigning from his MP post as well.

Babul Supriyo, the former Union Minister and BJP MP, has announced today that he had quit from politics as he needed some time. He was recently dropped from the Union Cabinet after his defeat in the West Bengal Assembly Election.

Babul Supriyo has said that the lose of the ministry had played a role in his decision of quitting politics.

A few days back, West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee had penned a letter to the leaders of opposition parties to get united against BJP. There’s a piece of information that the actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan who is now an MP of Samajwadi Party, may campaign for TMC candidates in Tollygunge, Bengal. She will be campaigning against the BJP candidate Babul Supriyo.

“I welcome her in West Bengal. I won’t talk about family relations with her but she knows me very well. She will against BJP but she will never say anything against me”, says Babul Supriyo, BJP candidate from Tollygunge, as quoted by ANI.

Well, the Bengal CM has tried reaching out to several leaders appealing to stand united in order to get triumph over BJP. She has appealed to the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, DMK leader MK Stalin, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti along with a few others, as per the reports of Times Now.

Again, the point to be noted is that the legislative assembly election in West Bengal is scheduled to be conducted in 8 phases which has started on the 27th of March and will end on the 29th of April, 2021.

First two phases have been carried out on the 27^th of March and the 1^st of April, 2021. The third phase of the election is going to be held on the 6^th of April, Tuesday. While the results will be declared on the 2^nd of May.
