India developed GrainATM bags global innovation award

New Delhi, June 11: An automated grain dispensing machine developed in India by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with the Government of India and the WFP Innovation Accelerator has bagged the global innovation award in Munich, Germany.

GrainATM or Annapurti, is an automated multi-commodity dispensing solution. That provides fast, clean, and precise access to commodities (rice, wheat, grains). To beneficiaries, post biometric authentication.

The machine ensures 24×7 access to full entitlements of monthly subsidized grains through India’s Public Distribution System.

“An adaptable, modular, and robust solution, ‘Annapurti’ has potential use for food-based safety nets, food grain distribution during emergencies, and increasing market access for smallholder farmers,” said Ankit Sood, WFP India Head Supply Chain and PDS Unit.

The Award was conferred on Thursday in Munich to recognize the top five innovative solutions. For disrupting hunger from 120 countries where WFP works.

The machines are currently undergoing testing at two locations in Haryana and Odisha. In Fair Price Shops (FPS) that distribute rations to the beneficiaries of National Food Security Act (2013) entitlements.

The Indian government operates one of the world’s largest food-based safety nets, under which subsidized grains are provided to 813 million people every month, through a network of over 500,000 last-mile outlets called FPS.

Under the current practice, the FPS operators manually weigh and distribute the food grain. The manual weighing and distribution of grains. Require the people receiving assistance to queue for long hours. There is a high possibility of grain spillage and waste. And may even lead to people not receiving their share of food assistance.

The development of the GrainATM or Annapurti solution was made possible by work done by the India CO, the Government of India, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the Department of Food and Public Distribution, and WFP Innovation Accelerator.

HDDCF bags Active Participation Award of NCDFI e-Market

Chandigarh, April 10: Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation (HDDCF) has received the Active Participation Award. Of the NCDFI e-Market for the financial year 2021-22. Giving this information here on Sunday, an official spokesperson said. That NCDFI is celebrating the Golden Jubilee of completing 50 years of service and a function to mark the occasion. And e-Market award ceremony was held at National Forensic Science University in Gandhinagar (Gujarat) today. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah graced the occasion as the chief guest. On behalf of Haryana, HDDCF Chairman Randhir Singh and Managing Director A Sreenivas attended the award ceremony. And received the Active Participation Award of the NCDFI e-Market for the financial year 2021-22. The spokesperson said that HDDCF has been associated with NCDFI for the last four years.

The Milk Unions of HDDCF have been conducting sale/purchase of SMP/Butter/Pharma Sugar through e-portal of NCDFI. And have sold approximately 5500 MT of SMP till date. During the last two years 250 MT of SMP and 40 MT of Butter has been sold. Further, 250 MT of Butter and 5263.61 MT of Pharma grade sugar have been purchased in the last two years. PM Modi to be presented with global energy and environment leadership award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be granted the CERAWeek global energy and environment leadership award while attending an annual international energy conference next week.

PM Modi along with that, will convey the keynote address at the CERAWeek Conference-2021, which will be conducted virtually from 1st to 5th March, its organizer, IHS Markit, said on Friday 26th February.

Some significant speakers at the conference include US special presidential ambassador for climate John Kerry, Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and founder of Breakthrough Energy Bill Gates and president and CEO, Saudi Aramco, Amin Nasser.

IHS Markit vice chairman and the conference’s chair, Daniel Yergin, said, “We look forward to Prime Minister Modi’s perspectives on the role of the world’s largest democracy and are pleased to honour him with the CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award for his commitment to expanding India’s leadership in sustainable development to meet the country’s, and the world’s, future energy needs.”

In marking its path towards economic growth, poverty reduction and a new energy future, India has come up at the centre of global energy and the environment, and its leadership is important to meet the requirements of climate objectives for a sustainable future while establishing universal energy access, he said.

The annual international conference is a congregation of energy industry leaders, experts, government officials and policy makers, leaders from the technology, financial and industrial communities, and energy technology innovators.
