Aryan Khan drug case: Sameer Wankhede reacts to money laundering charges filed by ED, says, “I will give the appropriate reply…”

Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a money laundering case against former Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCR) director Sameer Wankhede, from the Mumbai zonal. The complaint was registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Now, Sameer has reacted to the charges by ED and stated that he will give an appropriate reply in the court itself.

The complaint was filed by ED after taking into consideration the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) notice. The legal document stated that Sameer allegedly took a bribe of Rs 25 crore from Shah Rukh Khan to spare his son from the drug case, as reported by PTI on Saturday.

Talking to ETimes, Wankhede stated, “ED had registered the said ECIR in 2023. It is surprising that this ECIR is based on the CBI FIR, which is already under question before the Bombay HC. Since the matter is subjudice, I don’t intend to comment anything further. I will give the appropriate reply in the court at the appropriate time. I reiterate that I have full faith in the Indian Judiciary. Satyamev Jayate.”

According to a report by PTI, ED has filed charges under PMLA against Wankhede. Some former NCB officials have also been summoned by the respective authorities. Sameer Wankhede is an Indian Revenue Service officer for the Customs and Indirect Taxes sector. He has appealed to the Bombay HC, seeking protection for any violent action from the money laundering case.

A complaint was registered against Wankhede by the ED last year as he was allegedly involved in taking a bride from Shah Rukh Khan for Rs 25 crore. Aryan Khan, was arrested for the drugs on cruise case on the 2nd of October, 2021.

A year after the case was registered, NCB filed a charge sheet against 14 accused while Aryan Khan was set free. However, the case took an interesting turn when an independent witness gave a statement saying Rs 25 crore bride had been demanded by the NCB’s officials to set Aryan free.

NCB then took the matters vigilantly and investigated this crucial piece of information. After conducting a crackdown against Sameer, NCB handed over vital contents from their investigation to CBI and a complaint was registered against him for the same.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had appointed a special inquiry team that was set up to investigate the role of the former Mumbai zone chief Sameer Wankhede and the speculations raised regarding regularities and violations during his tenure. Sameer Wankhede was investigating the drugs-on-cruise case in Mumbai in which Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was also arrested for a brief period. It has recently surfaced that Wankhede had misreported Aryan’s foreign travel expenses and purchases of luxury watches which further twisted the case

Sameer Wankhede had alleged that the NCB deputy director general (DDG), Gyaneshwar Singh, who is also the SET chief, was “acting as judge of his own cause and conduct”.

Sameer Wankhede, the CBI informed, had been selling and purchasing expensive wristwatches with a private entity. He also couldn’t prove the funding that led to his expensive foreign trips. The SET report said Sameer Wankhede, “in a span of about 5 years from 2017-21 made six private foreign visits with family to the UK, Ireland, Portugal, South Africa and the Maldives spanning over 55 days of foreign stay with declared amount of ₹8.75 lakh only which barely can cover the cost of air travel.” The inquiry with its new revelations said that Sameer Wankhede visited abroad several times on private trips and details of his previous visits had also been mis-declared in the prescribed pro-forma.

SRK even made an effort to sound as modest and sincere as possible in his texts by signing off with “Love, SRK” practically every time to avoid being patronising or intimidating.

In the discussions, SRK is also heard attempting every trick and confessing that he made an extra effort to get in touch with a number of unnamed individuals and a “person in the North” to ask them to refrain from involving Aryan in “their politics.” He even typed an obscenity at one point, but he quickly toned it down and asked them to “go easy” on his son.

“Please man I beg you there is nothing from my side that is participant in the vested interests. I went out if my way and without even knowing them called and begged them not to involve my child in their politics. The people here and also the person in the North. I spoke as a father to them and even chided them that they are harming my kid in their selfish interests. Please man don’t make him pay for these a**holes and vested people. I beg you man please. It’s a larger thing my son and my family I swear play no part in it,” a part of the chat read.

Even asking Wankhede to allow him to call and speak to him personally, he said. Not only that, but he also requested a conversation with his daughter Suhana Khan from the then-NCB official if he wants to.

Early in October 2021, Aryan Khan, the superstar of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan’s son, was detained in connection with the Mumbai cruise drugs inquiry. The process of giving Aryan Khan bail involved multiple court hearings and lasted for over four weeks. The Narcotics Control Bureau cleared him of any wrongdoing in the narcotics case eight months later. The same case has now returned to haunt three officials, including the former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede, who oversaw the investigation.

The owners of the Cordelia ship, where Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was detained in the alleged drug case, were asked for a bribe of 25 crore by former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official Sameer Wankhede, according to a corruption complaint filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In the same case, four additional people have also been named for allegedly trying to bribe someone with 25 crore for “not framing” Aryan Khan in the drug case.In conjunction with the bribery case, the investigating agency is also conducting raids at Sameer Wankhede’s residence. The searches, according to the officials with information of the matter, have taken place at 29 different locations in Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, and Kanpur.

According to the sources, the CBI was informed that Sameer Wankhede and an ally allegedly paid a 50 lakh advance to avoid naming Aryan Khan in the drug case.

On October 2, 2021, Aryan Khan was detained on the Cordelia cruise liner in connection with an alleged drugs bust. Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was detained by Sameer Wankhede during a raid on the Cordelia Cruise at the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal for an alleged drugs offence.

The case was initially filed with accusations of drug possession, use, and trafficking. The NCB released Aryan Khan after 22 days in custody in May 2022 owing to “lack of sufficient evidence.

Aryan Khan case: Main NCB witness Prabhakar Sail dies of heart attack

Prabhakar Sail was an independent witness in the 2021 Mumbai cruise drug case. He died on Friday afternoon and was found in his rented apartment in the Mahul area of Mumbai. It has been stated that his death cause was entirely after suffering a heart attack.

His layer, advocate Tushar Khandare, had confirmed his death. Stating that the now deceased Sail was originally at home. And that the family does not suspect any sort of foul play related to his death.

Sail is survived by his family which includes his mother, wife, and two children. And the family has decided to hold his cremation until his brothers arrive from the village.

Sail was also a personal security guard for another witness, KP Gosawi. Gosawi was also involved in the drug cruise case. In which Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested first. Gosawi, on the other hand, had posted a photo of himself with Aryan. And was even seen pulling his hand and dragging him to the NCB office.

Soon after, Maharashtra cabinet minister Nawab Malik raised the issue of a private individual. Such as Gosawi, being called as a witness in the case, and questioned what Gosawi was doing dragging Aryan into the NCB office.
