We’ve gathered all the leaks and rumors about the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra 3. While Apple hasn’t officially announced anything yet, we have a good idea of what to expect from this new version of their high-end smartwatch.

Here’s a quick rundown of what we know:

Release Date:
Apple is known for sticking to a regular launch schedule, so we expect the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to be announced in September 2024, following the September 2023 launch of the Ultra 2 and the original Ultra in September 2022. DISPLAY

The Apple Watch Series 8 features almost the same Apple Watch Series 7 display, which has 20% more screen area and thinner borders at 1.7mm, making it 40% smaller than those on Apple Watch Series 6. This watch is available in dimensions of 41mm and 45mm sizes. The Always-On Retina display is comparatively brighter indoors than the previous watches, thus making it easier to see the watch’s face without even having to lift the wrist or wake the display.

The Watch is also deemed to be IP6X dust-resistant and has a water resistance rating of WR50, making it an excellent choice for swimming performances and making users stay relaxed while on the beach or the desert.

BODY TEMPERATURE SENSOR

The most essential features of the Apple Watch Series 8 is the new body temperature sensor enabling “further insights into women’s health,” according to Apple. The two-sensor design reduces bias from the outside environment and the body itself. Temperature sensing in the device also enables improved period predictions for users who menstruate. With watchOS 9, Cycle Tracking users will now be able to receive a notification if their logged cycle history shows a possible deviation.

CRASH DETECTION FEATURE

Apart from the body temperature sensor, the Apple Watch Series 8 feature two new motion sensors and a sensor-fusion algorithm that makes the Apple Watch detect a severe car crash with Crash Detection. This is by far the most interesting and effective feature devised by Apple. When the Watch detects a severe car crash, the device will check in with the user and dial emergency services if they are unresponsive after a 10-second countdown. Emergency responders will receive the user’s device location, which is also shared with emergency contacts.

NEW LOW POWER MODE

With an iPhone by your side, one can get up to 36 hours of battery life using the new and improved low-power mode. When the lower power mode is working the Watch can disable or limit the use of select sensors and features, for example, most notably the Always-On display and heart health notifications. This new low-power mode is also coming to other Apple Watch models from the Series 4 onwards all due to watchOS 9.

HEART RATE

Heart rate being the foremost concern of people nowadays, Apple takes care of that too. The infrared sensor on the back of the Apple Watch regularly measures heart rate and records its findings in the Health app. Users can also take manual Electrocardiograms using the Digital Crown and heart rate sensor to complete an electrical circuit around their body. This measurement helps determine irregular heart rhythms and can help users decide whether they need to visit a doctor.

ADDED SAFETY FEATURES

While both models have fall detection, emergency SOS, blood oxygen sensors and gyroscope, the Series 8 offers a set of tracking upgrades that assist with wellness and safety. Apple announced two new temperature sensors available on Series 8; one is located close to the skin, and the other is within the display.

These new sensors monitor body temperature throughout the day and night but can also help women track menstrual periods and ovulation cycles. A log tracks a woman’s cycle history and sends out notifications for any irregularities, which can assist with family planning or potential health concerns.

SIMILAR BATTERY POWER

While Apple touted its 36-hour battery life when the Series 8 is in low-power mode, the Series 7 is also capable of an extended battery when the WatchOS 9 update hits. Currently, both the watches possess an 18 hours of battery power. Low-power mode is helpful in preserving life by restricting certain features like the sensors, the always-on display or the heart tracking application.

Apple to announce the official launch date of the iPhone 12 Series

On 6th September, Jon Prosser (tech-analyst) posted a tweet where he claimed that Apple is going to launch its new press release regarding its new products on Tuesday. Prosser had also speculated that Apple was set to launch its new watch on the 7th of September.

Apple press release is currently scheduled for Tuesday (September 8) at 9:00am EST — though, I should note that it’s not locked in until the press has been briefed, day of.
