Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said Jammu and Kashmir Police had intensified its crackdown on narcotics networks across the Union Territory, resulting in 806 arrests under cases linked to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the attachment of properties worth more than ₹6 crore.

Addressing officials in Srinagar, the J&K Director General of Police said the anti-narcotics campaign was targeting the entire supply chain — from alleged Pakistan-based handlers to local drug traffickers and kingpins operating within the region.

“From Pakistan-based supply chains to local kingpins, the entire narco network will be crushed,” Prabhat said while reviewing ongoing anti-drug operations.

Officials said the crackdown forms part of a wider strategy aimed at dismantling organised drug trafficking routes allegedly operating through cross-border networks and local distribution systems. Security agencies have repeatedly expressed concern over the increasing use of narcotics smuggling routes for financing criminal and militant activities in the region.

According to police data, multiple raids, seizures and financial investigations have been conducted in recent months across different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities said attached properties include houses, land parcels and commercial assets allegedly linked to proceeds generated through illegal narcotics trade.

The NDPS crackdown comes amid growing concerns over drug abuse among youth in the Union Territory. Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security agencies, have launched awareness drives, intelligence-based operations and stricter surveillance measures to tackle narcotics trafficking and consumption.

Officials have previously stated that drug networks in the region increasingly rely on cross-border smuggling channels, encrypted communication platforms and local overground operatives for distribution. Several investigations in the past have also pointed towards alleged links between narco-trafficking and terror financing activities.

The anti-drug campaign has gained momentum over the past two years, with authorities claiming significant seizures of heroin, synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Security agencies maintain that eliminating the narcotics trade is essential for maintaining law and order and preventing organised criminal networks from expanding their influence.

Police officials said investigations are continuing to identify additional suspects, financial networks and interstate connections linked to the illegal drug trade. Authorities also indicated that stricter enforcement measures and surveillance operations would continue in the coming months.
