Stone‑pelting between two groups in the Kadapa district town of Almasetpet (Almaset Pet) on Saturday, led to the injury of a circle inspector and prompted the Andhra Pradesh police to use force to disperse the crowd. The clash erupted near the Almaset Pet circle over a dispute about the naming of the intersection, triggering a brief but tense confrontation between rival groups.

According to local police accounts, the row centred on whether the circle should be named after Tipu Sultan or Hanuman, with two distinct sections of the community supporting the respective names. The disagreement quickly turned into a physical confrontation when members of the opposing groups began hurling stones at each other, leading to rising tension in the area.

A large contingent of police personnel rushed to the Almaset Pet intersection soon after the disturbance was reported. Despite attempts at verbal restraint, the situation escalated, prompting officers to use force to disperse the crowd and prevent the violence from spilling into nearby streets. During the episode, the circle inspector of the Kadapa‑I town police was injured by a stone but did not require intensive hospitalisation, officials said.

Following the incident, the police registered a case and began identifying the individuals involved in the stone‑pelting, with local authorities warning that necessary action would be taken under relevant sections of the law. The Kadapa district administration has since asked residents to maintain peace and avoid further agitation over the naming issue while the matter is reviewed
