Before marrying Saif Ali Khan, Amrita Singh dated cricketer Ravi Shastri. Recently, a video resurfaced on social media from 1992 and it shows Shastri talking about his girlfriend. The cricketer shared his most embarrassing moment when he went on a date with Amrita, which was also the first time he met her.

Shastri said he knew he has always been shy around women. However, he never knew he would be unable to talk for 10 whole minutes. The cricketer said he never knew there would come a day when he will be quiet for so long. During his date, Amrita Singh was the one who talked for ten minutes and he was unable to utter a single word. That he stated was the most embarrassing moment he has faced.

The interviewer then asked him about his girlfriend and he said Amrita. Then on further insistence, he said Naam wali. The cricketer referred to the movie that Amrita was featured in.

Ravi Shastri and Amrita Singh dated in the 80s. The couple were even engaged and wanted to get married. However, before this would happen they got separated. According to reports, Shastri wanted her to quit her acting career. But Amrita was a successful actress during that time. They parted ways and soon after that Amrita met Saif Ali Khan.

The couple had gone to great lengths to divulge the worst truths of their marriage to the world, involving a dramatic alimony and child custody dispute. For those who don’t know, Saif was only starting out in his career, and Amrita was a seasoned actress in Hindi films when they tied the knot in 1991. Saif and Amrita were fortunate to have two children, Sara and Ibrahim.

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh had an appearance on Simi Garewal’s show Rendezvous in 1991, shortly after their secret marriage. Even though the couple seemed to be deeply in love with their idyllic married life, there were also certain revelations that suggested a potential conflict between them. During their talk, Amrita expressed her insecurities regarding Saif’s close association with other actresses. She continued by saying that she occasionally got into arguments with him and that she sometimes wanted to hit his head with a frying pan. She said, “I would lie if I said I didn’t. I’ve been here. While Amrita spared no effort to discredit Saif by disclosing unpleasant details of their previous marriage, Saif also revealed something startling when he brought up the enormous amount of alimony he was required to give Amrita. Saif has disclosed how difficult it was for him to amass such a large sum of money. He said, “I’m supposed to give Amrita Rs 5 crore, of which I’ve already given her approximately Rs 2.5 crore. Also, I’m paying Rs 1 lakh per month until my son becomes 18. I’m not Shah Rukh Khan. I don’t have that kind of money. I’ve promised her I’ll pay up the rest of the money, and I will, even if I’ve to slog till I drop dead.”

Saif Ali Khan, however, openly disclosed in yet another of his confessions how, following their divorce, Amrita Singh, his ex-wife, prevented him from seeing their children, Sara and Ibrahim. In a previous interview with The Telegraph, Saif discussed how their mother Amrita indoctrinated their children against him. He also disclosed that his ex-wife left their children alone at home while she worked, with housekeepers taking care of them.

Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore opened up about Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s ugly divorce in the new episode of Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan 8. Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh got married in 1991 but separated in 2004. The ex-couple shares two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.

Saif said, “With the separation, I just like to say, that the first person I spoke to before the separation was my mother. She took a deep breath, there was a pause on the phone, and said, ‘I am with you if that’s what you want’ and that helped a lot.”

Sharmila added, “When you are together for such a long time, and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious…I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt…so that stage was not nice, but I tried. But what’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down, and they worked it out together.”

The actress continued, “It’s not just staying away, there are so many other things that are involved. It wasn’t a happy time for us because Ibrahim was just three, and we were very fond of the children. Especially, Tiger was really fond of Ibrahim, and he would say, ‘That’s a good lad’. He didn’t get that time with him. So we felt doubly deprived to lose Amrita and lose the two kids. So it’s just not him, but we also had to adjust to all that.”

Sara thanked Manish for hosting them on Instagram, and she also shared a photo of the ‘yummy supper’ they had. She is seen in casual clothes in one of the photos. She was dressed in tattered denim and a white shirt. Amrita Singh, on the other side, was dressed in brown slacks and a blacktop. She captioned her picture, “Thank you for yummy dinner and a lovely evening”.
