For the second time in a year, a new hack targets AIIMS Delhi

Fresh cyberattacks were launched on Monday against the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in New Delhi. According to the top medical facility, the malware assault attempt was effectively stopped and the danger was quickly neutralised.

The prestigious medical institute suffered service interruptions as a result of a cyberattack in November 2022, and this is the second hack against AIIMS Delhi in a year. Due to the hack, the medical center’s systems were rendered inoperable, and the AIIMS subsequently suspended two analysts for alleged cybersecurity violations.

As Delhi Police joined the inquiry alongside the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and National Informatics Centre (NIC), the hospital’s internet access remained disabled for a number of days. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also went to the hospital and assisted the law enforcement authorities with their investigation.

Many services, especially those that relied on the internet, were disrupted as a result of the hack. The hospital started using Standard Operation Procedures (SoP) for its manual admission and discharge process.

Connections between China and Hong Kong :
According to the investigation of the AIIMS cyberattack, the servers that were exploited may have come from China and Hong Kong. Delhi has requested in writing that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) contact Interpol for more details.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) website was reportedly targeted 6,000 times by hackers, but they were unable to compromise it. The sources further stated that AIIMS was not the only target of cyberattacks as attempts at the servers of other prestigious organisations were also attempted.

According to sources, the inquiry into the hacking of the AIIMS system is currently based on the RAM dump because all of the affected PCs at AIIMS have had their memory dumps sent for analysis.

The hard disc containing the dump data has been transferred for testing to Gujarat’s National Forensic Science University (NFSU), where a report is anticipated shortly.

In an exclusive interview with ABP News on Friday, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the Union Minister of State for Information Technology, claimed that the current episode of server hacking at AIIMS is not a trivial event and that there appears to be a conspiracy behind it.

The minister stated that the government will introduce a Digital Data Protection Bill in the budget session in an effort to guarantee the privacy of the citizens’ data and that the CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team), NIA, and police are looking into the AIIMS server hack case.

According to the sources, the investigation is being conducted not only by the IFSO unit of the Delhi Police but also by the FSL of the Delhi Government, CFSL of the CBI, DRDO, and NFSU of Gujarat.

According to additional sources, the investigative report will make clear where the hacking was carried out.

Notably, a high-level meeting about the server hack issue had been called by the Union Home Ministry.

Other officials, including senior personnel of the Intelligence Bureau, NIC, NIA, Delhi Police, and MHA attended the high-level meeting called by the Ministry of Home Affairs in addition to those connected to the AIIMS management.

When the server for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, went down, hackers allegedly demanded almost Rs 200 crore in cryptocurrencies, according to news agency PTI. It’s possible that the leak exposed the data of three to four crore patients.

According to reports, the NIA will likely look into the incident to see if there was a terrorist component. According to earlier reports, in addition to patient data, the AIIMS server also contains information on VIPs, and there is a chance that this information could be exposed as a result of the cyberattack.

Former PM Manmohan Singh admitted to AIIMS Delhi, Congress says ‘undergoing routine treatment’

On October 13, Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Congress released a statement noting that Singh was “undergoing routine treatment” at the hospital.

“There are some unsubstantiated rumours with regards to former PM, Dr Manmohan Singh Ji’s health. His condition is stable. He is undergoing routine treatment. We will share any updates as needed. We thank our friends in media for their concern,” All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Pranav Jha tweeted.

Initially, sources reported to CNN News 18 that Singh has been admitted to the cardiology department of AIIMS. The former PM has a past of heart-related ailments and underwent a coronary bypass operation at the hospital in 2009.

Since 1990, when he underwent a bypass operation, Singh had five bypasses operated on him and a stenting procedure in 2004. Last May, he was admitted to AIIMS after reports of chest pain.

Singh, 89, was also hospitalised earlier this year after testing positive for COVID-19 on April 19. However, the former PM had successfully improved from the virus and was discharged from the hospital on April 29. Currently, a Rajya Sabha MP representing the state of Rajasthan, Singh had worked as the country’s prime minister between 2004 and 2014.
