Uttar Pradesh defence industrial corridor set to break ground on 34 investment projects worth Rs 3,585.85 crore

Nearly 34 investment projects worth a combined Rs 3,585.85 crore are scheduled to have their groundbreaking ceremonies (GBC) in Uttar Pradesh. Since its inception in February 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) has drawn significant investments, proving a dedication to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.

With 114 investment intents and a proposed investment of an enormous Rs 24,510.60 crore, the UPDIC encompasses important nodes in Aligarh, Jhansi, Kanpur, and Lucknow. An estimated 41,667 jobs might be created by these endeavours, which would be a major contribution to the state’s job creation.

Major corporations including BrahMos Aerospace, Areolloy Technologies, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd, Tata Technologies Ltd, Global Engineers Ltd, WB Electronics India Ltd, Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd, Ananth Technologies, Genser Aerospace, Anchor Research Labs LLP, and Amitec Electronics are leading the way in this revolutionary endeavour.

Either their units have already been established within the corridor, or they are currently in the process of implementing their initiatives. It is anticipated that the dispersion of these projects will result in around 8,530 new job opportunities, significantly boosting the region’s economic expansion.

In Phase I, a sizable land bank has been established by the Uttar Pradesh government’s aggressive acquisition of greenfield land parcels in the key cities of Agra, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Kanpur, and Lucknow. To create an atmosphere that is favourable for investors, the government is spending on the development of basic infrastructure throughout these nodes. Designated as Centres of Excellence, IIT Kanpur and IIT (BHU) Varanasi are essential for research and for bridging important R&D gaps.

With a budget of Rs 400 crore, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has introduced the Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme in keeping with its commitment to improving testing capabilities. To create three defence testing facilities in Kanpur and Lucknow, a grant-in-aid of Rs 117.06 crore has been authorised.

In order to meet the unique needs of MSMEs and startups in the defence and aerospace sectors, the UP Defence Industrial Corridor has partnered with financial institutions to offer tailored loans. The goal of this cooperative endeavour is to promote innovation and build an environment that is conducive to economic success.

1. The Kerala Story:

Sudipto Sen directs and Vipul Amrutlal Shah produces The Kerala Story, a 2023 Indian Hindi-language drama film. Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani star. 3. Qissa

Anup Singh wrote and directed the 2013 Indian-German drama film Qissa in Punjabi. The film was released in Indian theatres nationally on February 20, 2015, as well as on DVD and VOD. At the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, the film was presented in the Contemporary World Cinema section and won the Netpac Award for World or International Asian Film.The film’s topic is centred on a Sikh man’s wish to have a son to carry on the family legacy.

Its plot is based on real-life incidents of gender imbalance and economics leading to familial polyandry and bride buying in some parts of India. It depicts a future in which an Indian village is populated entirely by males as a result of female infanticide over the years.

5.Tahaan – A Boy With a Grenade

Santosh Sivan’s Tahaan – A Boy With a Grenade is an Indian Hindi-language drama film. The story revolves around a young boy and his pet donkey. It is a fable-like adventure of the titular eight-year-old child, whose existence centres around the pursuit of true meaning in his small universe. Purav Bhandare plays the young boy in the film. The rest of the cast includes Anupam Kher, Sarika, Rahul Bose, Rahul Khanna, and Victor Banerjee. The film was shot on location in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahul Dholakia co-wrote and directed the 2007 Indian drama film Parzania, which also starred David N. Donihue. Naseeruddin Shah and Sarika played the key parts, with Corin Nemec and Raj Zutshi providing assistance. Aligarh is a 2015 Indian biographical drama film written and directed by Hansal Mehta. The lead actors are Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao.

Anurag Kashyap’s 2013 Indian Hindi-language thriller film Ugly was written, co-produced, and directed by him. Phantom Films and DAR Motion Pictures co-produced the film, which stars Rahul Bhat, Ronit Roy, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vineet Kumar Singh, Girish Kulkarni, Surveen Chawla, and Anshika Shrivastava. It also stars TV actor Abir Goswami in his final cinematic appearance before passing away in 2013. Ugly tells the narrative of a struggling actor Rahul Varshney (Bhat), whose daughter Kali (Shrivastava) disappears and the events that ensue over the course of a week.

Aligarh to be renamed as Harigarh! Zila Panchayat passes resolution

In its first meeting, Aligarh’s Mainpuri Zila Panchayat passed a resolution on Monday to rename Aligarh as Harigarh, Hindustan Times reported.

The resolution was passed with 50 out of 72 members voting for the resolutions. According to the members, it was a long-standing demand.

“It was a long pending demand to rename Aligarh as Harigarh. The Zila panchayat approved the proposal unopposed. It would now be forwarded to the state government for approval,” stated Vijay Singh, Zila panchayat chairman for Aligarh told Hindustan Times.

Two other proposals were also passed during the meeting. The first one was to name Aligarh airport after BJP leader Kalyan Singh. Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and a resident of Aligarh, also known as the ‘city of locks’.

The second proposal was to rename Mainpuri as Mayan Nagar, after the saint Mayan who founded the present-day Mainpuri. “One of the Zila panchayat members had moved the proposal for renaming Mainpuri as Mayan Nagar and the proposal was passed on Monday with 23 members supporting the motion and two opposing it,” said Archana Bhadoria, Zila panchayat chairperson of Mainpuri told Hindustan Times.

This is not the first time a resolution has been passed in UP Zila panchayats to rename a city. In August, Firozabad district panchayat had passed a resolution to change the district’s name to Chandra Nagar. The locals believe that King Chandrasekhar lived in Firozabad, which was known as Chandravar Nagar till 1560 AD.

Divya Dutta on Sheer Qorma getting an international award

Actress Divya Dutta is pleased with the critical acclaim her film Sheer Qorma is receiving not just in India but even worldwide. It was director Faraz Ansari who delivered the news to her that it had won the Grand Jury prize at the Asparilla International Film Festival in Florida.

“The feeling is, of course, of elation. In the times we’re living in, this kind of news is very welcome. We were sure the film would work. While shooting something, you know what the project is capable of. We patiently waited for the right time. Also, it’s Pride Month, what could be better than our film getting a great launch,” Dutta beams with excitement.

Dutta is no stranger to awards and critical praise, whether for her work in films or as a personality. When asked if such awards mean anything to her, she replies she’d be dishonest if she said otherwise.

“In a way, they’re like a tonic for any actor, a booster. You feel acknowledged, appreciated by your clan, and that counts. It also changes things for us, the perception about us. Especially, the highly coveted awards for sure, it changed for me after I got a National Award. But it’s not like that would be the end of the world if I don’t get it. If I get one, it’s good,” explains the 43-year-old, who won the National Film award for Best Supporting Actress in a Supporting Role for Irada (2018).

Dutta, who has yet to see Sheer Qorma, believes that we are still learning about LGBTQI+ issues in our nation.

“Abhi toj jaake sundar films banni shuru hui hain. Earlier, there only used to be one or two, like Fire (1996), which had to face resistance. Now, we have Aligarh (2015), Kapoor & Sons (2016), which hit home so beautifully. There’s the web show Made in Heaven as well. Appreciation comes from the West, where it’s no big deal. We’re more conservative in our thinking,” she admits.

However, the actor says that a change is on the way. “We’re getting there in terms of acknowledging ourselves. But we must not underestimate yourself. We’re celebrating Pride Month in a way that has never been more beautifully celebrated,” she concludes.
