Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Monday announced a major digital transformation initiative for the Indian judiciary, unveiling the “One Case One Data” programme along with a new AI-powered chatbot named “Su Sahay” aimed at improving judicial accessibility and case management across the country.

Making the announcement at the beginning of court proceedings, the Chief Justice said the new initiative would integrate multi-level judicial information from High Courts, district courts and taluka courts into a unified digital system designed to streamline case tracking and judicial data management.

“We are commencing the ‘One Case One Data’ initiative with multi-level information of all high courts, district and taluka court details embedded. We look forward to developing an efficient case management system,” CJI Surya Kant said during the proceedings.

The initiative is expected to strengthen coordination between different levels of the judiciary and improve accessibility of case-related information for judges, lawyers, litigants and court administrators. Officials indicated that the integrated system aims to reduce duplication of records, improve data consistency and support faster movement of judicial information across courts nationwide.

Alongside the data integration project, the judiciary also launched “Su Sahay,” an AI-enabled chatbot intended to assist court users with basic procedural guidance, case-related queries and digital access support. The chatbot is expected to become part of the judiciary’s broader technology-driven reforms focused on improving efficiency and public access to legal services.

Judicial officials said the move is part of the continuing expansion of India’s e-Courts and digital justice infrastructure, which has accelerated in recent years through virtual hearings, online filings and electronic case management systems introduced across several courts.

The announcement comes amid increasing efforts by the Indian judiciary to modernise court administration and address long-standing challenges related to case pendency, procedural delays and fragmented data systems between different courts.

Legal experts have previously emphasised the importance of centralised judicial databases in improving transparency, reducing administrative burdens and enabling better monitoring of case movement across jurisdictions. The “One Case One Data” initiative is expected to create a more interconnected judicial ecosystem by integrating court-level records into a single framework.

The AI chatbot launch also reflects the judiciary’s growing interest in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence-based assistance tools aimed at simplifying public interaction with court systems. However, officials clarified that the technology is intended to support administrative access and not replace judicial decision-making.

The Supreme Court and the e-Committee of the judiciary have introduced several digital reforms in recent years, including virtual court proceedings, electronic filing systems and digitisation of records under the national e-Courts Mission Mode Project.

Further technical details regarding the rollout timeline and implementation structure of the new system are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
