US Air Force F-35 jets make debut at Aero India in ‘strategic show of support’

Two American F-35 fighter planes made a historic premiere today at the Aero India event in Bengaluru, indicating support for Indo-US ties. The move comes against the backdrop of the continuing Ukraine-Russia war and a fresh determination to strengthen the two nations’ defence and security ties. The US Air Force’s supersonic stealth aircraft, billed as the world’s most deadly, survivable, and networked fighter, has arrived in India for the first time. The US Air Force also featured F-16 and F-18 fighter planes, which were offered to the Indian armed forces for various purposes. Officials have previously declined to disclose whether or not the F-35s will attend the ceremony.

The 14th edition of “Aero India” attracted over 800 defence businesses and delegations from 98 nations. Noting that this was the largest-ever US delegation to Aero India, Ambassador A Elizabeth Jones branded it as evidence that “the US-India strategic alliance is one of our most critical ties.” According to a Times of India story quoting a senior US Embassy official, the F-35’s presence at the airshow will be “to demonstrate the strength and closeness of India-US collaboration.”

Meanwhile, US Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force and International Affairs Major General Julian C. The engine of the F-35 produces 43,000 pounds of thrust and is made up of a three-stage fan, a six-stage compressor, an annular combustor, a single-stage high-pressure turbine, and a two-stage low-pressure turbine. While there appears to be no likelihood of an acquisition for the F-35s, authorities have stated that over 250 business-to-business deals are likely to be finalised during the event. This will in turn stimulate investment to the tune of around 75,000 crore.

The biennial Aero India exhibition, which will highlight India as a developing hub for producing military aircraft, helicopters, equipment, and cutting-edge avionics, was opened on Monday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the past few years, the nation has changed this perception. Today, it’s not just a show but also India’s strength. It focuses on the scope of the Indian defence industry & self-confidence.”

The Prime Minister claims that India is now a prospective defence partner rather than just a market for global defence businesses. He stated, “This partnership is even with those nations that are much ahead in the defence sector, nations that are looking for a dependable partner for their defence requirements.”

“New India of the 21st century will now neither lose any opportunity nor lag behind in hard work. We’re ready. On the path to reforms, we’re bringing a revolution in every sector. Approximately 250 business-to-business agreements are anticipated to be finalised at Aero India, according to the officials, which is anticipated to unlock investment worth approximately Rs 75,000 crore. They said that by showcasing the expansion of the nation’s aerospace and defence capabilities, the 14th edition of Aero India, with the theme “The runway to a billion prospects,” will reflect the emergence of a powerful and independent “New India.”

In keeping with the government’s objective of “Make in India, Make for the World,” the emphasis will be on showcasing homegrown tools and technology and forming alliances with global businesses.

Airbus, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Lockheed Martin, Israel Aerospace Industry, BrahMos Aerospace, Army Aviation, HC Robotics, SAAB, Safran, Rolls Royce, Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Forge Limited, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and BEML Limited are among the major exhibitors at the Aero India, according to PTI.

The defence ministry estimated that five lakh attendees would physically attend the event. Leading design, the expansion of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) market, defence space, and cutting-edge technologies will all be topics covered in Aero India 2023.

According to PTI, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated at a news conference that Aero India 2023 will showcase the nation’s manufacturing capability and the advancements made towards achieving the Prime Minister Modi’s goal of a “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-sufficient India).

According to him, the occasion will have a big impact on the growth of the aerospace and aviation industry. According to Singh, Aero India will serve as a catalyst for the aerospace industry’s further expansion in India and will help the nation achieve its goal of becoming self-sufficient in the production of weapons systems.

The 14th edition of Aero India, which is slated to take place from February 13 to 17, 2023 in Bengaluru, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who made the announcement at the opening of the Collins Aerospace Global Engineering & Tech Center in Bengaluru, according to the news agency PTI.

Aero India, regarded as one of the best aerospace shows, has successfully hosted 13 iterations in Bengaluru since 1996.

It will last for five days and take place at Air Force Station Yelahanka. Senior representatives from the Defense Ministry recently met with Bommai to discuss matters pertaining to Aero India 2023.

The team also assumed responsibility for the Air Force Station’s on-site evaluation. It has expedited this massive event’s planning and implementation in addition to assessment.
