Western Railway suspends platform ticket sales at THESE FOUR MAJOR STATIONS ahead of Diwali and Chhath to prevent overcrowding

In anticipation of heavy passenger traffic during the Diwali and Chhath festivals, the Western Railway (WR) has announced a temporary suspension of platform ticket sales at four key stations — Bandra Terminus in Mumbai, and Vapi, Udhna, and Surat in Gujarat — from October 15 to 31, officials said on Monday.

The decision comes as a precautionary measure to manage the festive rush and ensure the safety of passengers. Last year, nine people were injured in a stampede at Bandra railway station during the festive season when commuters rushed to board a train.

“The move aims to ensure smooth passenger movement and safety within station premises amid the anticipated increase in footfall,” said Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway.

According to WR’s statement, exemptions will be allowed in genuine cases — including those assisting senior citizens, women passengers, divyangjan (persons with disabilities), illiterate individuals, or passengers requiring special assistance.

Western Railway has also urged passengers to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with railway staff to maintain orderly crowd management during the festive period.
