
In a significant move, the High-Level Committee (HLC) under the leadership of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, has approved Rs 1,554.99 crore of additional assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to five states that faced severe natural calamities in 2024, including floods, flash floods, landslides, and cyclonic storms. The assistance aims to support Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura in their recovery efforts.
The breakdown of the funds allocated includes:
- ₹608.08 crore for Andhra Pradesh
- ₹170.99 crore for Nagaland
- ₹255.24 crore for Odisha
- ₹231.75 crore for Telangana
- ₹288.93 crore for Tripura
This additional funding is provided over and above the regular releases from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). In the financial year 2024-25, the Central Government has already released ₹18,322.80 crore to 27 states in SDRF and ₹4,808.30 crore from NDRF to 18 states, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to support disaster-stricken regions.
The government has also dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to these affected states to assess the damages and provide necessary assistance.
