On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet which was chaired by P.M Narendra Modi approved Rs 57,600 crore for the ‘PM – eBus Sewa’ scheme.
According to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, this decision has been taken in order to enhance green mobility in the country. He said, “For augmenting city bus operations, priority will be given to cities having no organised bus service.”
According to reports, it was also stated by him that In 169 cities, 10,000 e-buses will be deployed as part of the Public Private Partnership model (PPP). In accordance with the Green Urban Mobility Initiative, infrastructure will be improved in 181 cities.
The overall cost of the scheme, which is to be financed by the Central Government with a contribution amounting to 20,000 crore, was fixed at R 57 613 billion. Bus operation will be supported for ten years under this scheme.
Under this EBus Sewa scheme, 50 electric buses will be put into service in cities with a population of 5 lakhs while 100 electric buses are being made available for cities with populations till 10 lakh.
This scheme will be covering all capital cities of union territories, hill states and north-east regions of the country.
