Tamil Nadu leads India’s factory employment with 15% of the workforce, followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat. The rankings highlight key industrial hubs shaping the nation’s manufacturing future.

Tamil Nadu has emerged as India’s top state for factory employment, accounting for 15% of the country’s total workforce in manufacturing units, according to the latest industry data. Maharashtra follows with 12.84%, while Gujarat secures third place with 12.62%. These states continue to drive India’s industrial growth, housing key manufacturing clusters.

Uttar Pradesh (8.04%) and Karnataka (6.58%) round out the top five, highlighting North and South India’s industrial contributions. Haryana (5.95%), Telangana (4.93%), and Punjab (4.55%) also maintain a significant presence in the sector.

West Bengal (4.10%) and Rajasthan (3.79%) rank ninth and tenth, showcasing the distribution of industrial employment across the country. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh (3.76%), Madhya Pradesh (2.36%), and Uttarakhand (2.24%) contribute to the growing manufacturing ecosystem.

On the lower end, Odisha (1.79%), Kerala (1.70%), and Chhattisgarh (1.59%) remain emerging hubs. Jharkhand (1.14%) and Bihar (0.73%) report the smallest shares, indicating potential for industrial development in these regions.
