SpiceJet window frame comes loose mid-air on Goa-Pune flight; airline assures no safety risk

A SpiceJet flight from Goa to Pune witnessed a scare mid-air when the interior frame of a window became loose and dislodged. However, the airline assured that passenger safety was never at risk, and cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout the journey.

In a statement, SpiceJet said the issue involved a cosmetic, non-structural trim component — a part of the window used for shading — which does not compromise the aircraft’s integrity. “The Q400 aircraft is equipped with multiple layers of window panes, including a robust, pressure-bearing outer pane, ensuring passenger safety even if an interior component comes loose,” the airline added.

The loose frame was fixed after the aircraft landed in Pune, following standard maintenance procedures. SpiceJet did not share further details about the specific aircraft or number of passengers on board.

Meanwhile, a passenger on the flight posted a video of the dislodged window on social media platform X, tagging aviation regulator DGCA and questioning the aircraft’s airworthiness. “The whole interior window assembly just fell off mid-flight. And this flight is now supposed to take off and head to Jaipur. Wonder if it’s airworthy…” the passenger wrote.

The incident did not affect the pressurisation of the cabin or compromise flight safety, according to the airline.
