Safety of Indian nationals in Ukraine is top priority of government: Foreign secretary Harsh Shringla

Talking at a press briefing in New Delhi, Shringla notified that at the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, PM Modi has declared that the topmost priority of the government is the safety and protection of Indian nationals including students in Ukraine.

Amid growing conflict in Ukraine after Russian troops waged war early on Thursday, concluding in massive panic and evacuation campaigns, Foreign Secretary of India Harsh V Shringla announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin shortly.

Talking at a press briefing in New Delhi, Shringla notified that at the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, PM Modi has declared that the topmost priority of the government is the safety and protection of Indian nationals including students in Ukraine. “We have answered 980 calls and dealt with 850 emails to facilitate help,” said Shringla. He also noted that the embassy in Ukraine has granted a number of advisories to the Indian citizens on security.

Earlier today, PM Modi also asserted that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other officials comprising Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to talk about the economic impact of the Russia-Ukraine crisis and ways to mitigate the effect of rising crude oil prices.

Shringla also augmented that a number of steps have been taken to handle the arising situation in Ukraine. “We started the registration of Indian citizens in Ukraine about a month ago. Founded on online registration, we found that 20,000 Indian nationals were there.”

Russian forces flamed missiles at numerous cities in Ukraine and landed troops on its coast on Thursday, officials and media announced, after President Vladimir Putin authorised what he named a special military operation.
