Red alert in Jammu and Kashmir as multiple explosions reported in Srinagar and Udhampur

Hours after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire agreement, panic gripped parts of Jammu and Kashmir as multiple explosions were reported across key locations on Saturday night. The twin cities of Srinagar and Udhampur are now under red alert, with residents advised to stay indoors.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, loud blasts were reported from Lal Chowk, BB Cantt area, and Safapora in Srinagar. Similar alerts were raised in Udhampur, where visuals show bright flashes in the night sky, reportedly from intercepted aerial threats.

The District Magistrate of Barmer also confirmed an urgent air raid warning, directing residents to observe a complete blackout. These alerts follow alleged ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces across the Line of Control, particularly in RS Pura, Akhnoor, Chamb, and Bhimber sectors. Heavy mortar shelling is reportedly underway in some areas.

In response, Indian security forces have been put on high alert, with the Border Security Force (BSF) reportedly given a free hand to retaliate.

The sudden spike in tension came shortly after the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that India and Pakistan had agreed to a complete halt in firing and military activity from 5:00 PM IST today. The agreement was formalised following a call initiated by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to his Indian counterpart.

As explosions continue to be heard and tensions escalate despite the ceasefire announcement, authorities are urging citizens to remain calm but vigilant. Further details are awaited from official channels.
