On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) provisionally attached immovable assets worth more than Rs. 6 crore belonging to Maharashtra chief minister and Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray’s relative.
Shridhar Patankar, the chief minister’s brother-in-law, owns the properties, which include 11 residential units in Thane’s ‘Neelambari’ complex. An investigation is now being conducted.
The state’s Sena-led coalition government has accused the BJP of exploiting central agencies against opposition figures. The Sena and the BJP dissolved decades-long relations in 2019 over power-sharing difficulties, prompting the former to establish the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) administration in the state with the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress.
The ED had previously detained two state cabinet members and NCP leaders in money laundering cases, Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh. Both are now imprisoned.
