Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and other political leaders mourn over the demise of former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee

Pranab Mukherjee, the former Indian President passes away at the age of 84. Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and others express grief.

A sad news recently surfaced on social media after the former Indian President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee died after fighting for life for several days. The Congress leader took his last breath at the Indian Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi on Monday, 31st August ’20. He was 84.

Mukherjee had undergone a brain surgery on 10th August and was in critical condition and on ventilator support since then. His health got worse after acquiring a lung infection on Sunday, 30th August ’20. Before going in for the surgery, Mukherjee had also announced that he has been tested positive for COVID-19 and had advised all those who had come in contact with him to isolate themselves.

After the news of his demise, many political leaders took to Twitter to express their grief. Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “Deeply anguished on the passing away of former President of India, Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee ji,” he wrote on Twitter. “He was a vastly experienced leader who served the nation with utmost devotion. Pranab da’s distinguished career is a matter of great pride for the entire country.”

 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted, “Saddened to hear of the passing away of former Rashtrapati Shri. Pranab Mukherjee. Over the decades, he served the nation in various capacities. Periodically, have benefitted from his wise counsel. India loses an experienced and seasoned leader. Condolences.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed his grief. “Deeply anguished by the demise of former president of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee ji,” he tweeted. “He was widely respected by the people across all sections of society. His demise is a personal loss. He had tremendous knowledge of India’s history, diplomacy, public policy and also defence.”

Pranab Mukherjee served as India’s 13th President from 2012 to 2017, and was succeeded by Ram Nath Kovind.
