PM Modi Reviews Gaganyaan: India to send Astronaut to Moon by 2040, set up space station by 2035

Prime Minister Modi also called upon Indian scientists to work towards interplanetary missions that would include a Venus Orbiter Mission and a Mars Lander.

On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting regarding preparations for the Gaganyaan mission. This meeting was organised to evaluate the preparedness of the mission. During the high-level meeting, ISRO scientists presented a comprehensive report to the Prime Minister Modi, which included many important informations related to the mission.

An official statement issued regarding the meeting, which said that PM Modi has asked ISRO scientists to aim to send the first Indian to the Moon by 2040 and establish an Indian space station by 2035. He gave these instructions during a meeting to review the preparations for the Gaganyaan mission and the maiden flight of the crew escape system test vehicle, to be held on October 21.

During the meeting, PM Modi outlined the country’s space missions, and also urged scientists to work towards interplanetary missions, including the Venus Orbiter Mission and Mars Lander. In fact, based on ISRO’s recent successes including Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya L1 missions, the Prime Minister directed that India should now set new and ambitious goals.

Over this high-level meeting, ISRO chief S Somanath said: “PM Modi told us about the plans for the future. He said that we have to launch man on the moon in 2040, there has to be the first human space flight. He also spoke of Indian Space Station. We have to continue the Chandrayaan Mission and Gaganyaan Mission. So, we have to make new rocket. There was a presentation on all of these. It is a matter of joy that he has endorsed all of these.” (As quoted by ANI)

ISRO to soon develop a roadmap 

Keeping in mind the Prime Minister’s vision, ISRO will soon develop a roadmap to send the first Indian to the Moon. For this, there will be a whole series of Chandrayaan missions, as well as work will be done on developing the new generation launch vehicle (NGLV). Along with this, a new launch pad will also be built, and related technologies will be developed with human-centric laboratories.
