Pakistan violates ceasefire as explosions heard across Srinagar, Omar Abdullah tweets

Just hours after India and Pakistan officially agreed to a full ceasefire from 5:00 PM IST on May 10, explosions were reported across Srinagar late Saturday night, raising serious concerns about the agreement’s implementation.

Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media around 8:53 PM IST, posting:

“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”

His post came shortly after J&K Police and locals confirmed multiple explosions across key areas in Srinagar, including Lal Chowk, BB Cantt area, and Safapora. Residents were advised to stay indoors and take necessary precautions.

Ceasefire violations?

Reports suggest that this may have been a ceasefire violation by Pakistan—just three hours after agreeing to halt all military actions on land, sea, and air. According to reports, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been granted a free hand to retaliate strongly against any violations along the International Border in Jammu & Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that the Pakistani DGMO had called the Indian DGMO at 3:35 PM, after which both sides agreed to halt all hostilities from 5:00 PM IST. This was further acknowledged by Pakistani Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, U.S. President Donald Trump, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who helped facilitate the ceasefire through back-channel diplomacy.

This sudden breach has reignited fears of renewed escalation, even as the global community lauded the ceasefire as a step toward peace.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more updates.
