Pahalgam Terror Attack: Mumbai Police on high alert following Pahalgam tragedy that claimed 26 lives

Mumbai Police have been put on high alert following the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed at least 26 people and injured several others on Tuesday, stated PTI. The attack, which targeted a group of tourists in Baisaran valley—a popular off-road meadow in the region—has sent shockwaves across the country.

As a precautionary measure, all Senior Police Inspectors (SPIs) and Zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in Mumbai have been instructed to remain vigilant and intensify patrolling in their respective jurisdictions. According to a Mumbai Police official, nakabandis (roadblocks) and surprise checks are being conducted at multiple locations across the city.

“Following the attack in Jammu and Kashmir, we have taken heightened security measures across Mumbai. All senior officers have been asked to monitor suspicious activity closely,” the official said to PTI.

The alert comes amid widespread national and international condemnation of the Pahalgam attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut short his Saudi Arabia trip and is returning to India early, while Home Minister Amit Shah has already reached Srinagar to review the security situation and is expected to visit the site of the attack.

Authorities have attributed the assault to The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba. The incident marks one of the deadliest civilian attacks in the region in recent years and has led to urgent security reassessments in other major metros, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

As of now, the death toll is feared to rise as some of the injured remain in critical condition. Security forces continue their search operation to track down the attackers in the region.
