The Chief Minister Eknath Shinde led Maharashtra government has decided to reduce the price of petrol by Rs 5 and that of diesel by Rs 3. Moreover, the CM announced a reduction in value added tax (VAT) on the commodities respectively.

Thus, in Mumbai, the price of 1 litre of petrol at Rs 111.35 would come down by Rs 5 after the VAT cut costing Rs. 106.35. Whereas, Diesel priced at Rs 97.28 per litre would get cheaper by Rs 3 now priced at Rs 94.28.

This reduction in VAT will force the state to carry a burden of RS 6000 crore. Announcing the slash, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted, “Great relief to Maharashtrian & Marathi Manus ! Happy to announce that new Government under CM Eknathrao Shinde has decided to reduce Petrol & Diesel prices by ₹5/litre & ₹3/litre respectively.”

Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs celebrated the decision. Urging the opposition states to follow the state of Maharashtra in order to provide relief to the people amidst growing inflation.
